President Trump has introduced a new initiative called “Project Warp Speed” with plans to get the coronavirus vaccine ready by January 2021, through science and medicine experts and resources in the military and private sector. At the time the president released this plan, he also stated that the coronavirus vaccine would not be mandatory. “Not everyone is going to want to get it,” he said.

Anxiety about possible medical strong-arming by the military easily piggy-backed on top of wide speculation that legislation introduced in Congress earlier this month, known as the TRACE Act – the “COVID-19 Testing, Reaching, And Contacting Everyone Act” –  would result in massive assaults by government agents against the constitutional rights of Americans.

Trump Says Coronavirus Vaccine will be Voluntary ‘Not everyone is going to want to get it’

Previously, Trump had brought up the idea of mobilizing the military to deploy the new vaccine, which raised fears that the vaccine would be mandatory. It should be pointed out that Trump’s statement does not guarantee that the vaccine will not be mandatory. In recent weeks, nearly half a million people have signed a petition addressed to world leaders opposing a mandatory coronavirus vaccine.

William Hasteline, cancer, HIV/AIDS, and human genome projects researcher has said that we “should not count” on a vaccine to save the population from COVID-19. Due to the nature of the coronavirus, it is unlikely that a vaccine will help. Sars-COV2 is a virus like the common cold that can mutate, and for this reason it is difficult to create an effective vaccine. Hasteline is not the first to point out that a vaccine is likely not a solution to the pandemic.

William Haseltine, a groundbreaking researcher of cancer, HIV/AIDS and human genome projects, said the better approach now is to manage the disease through careful tracing of infections and strict isolation measures whenever it starts spreading.

Hasteline has said that those who have been exposed to the virus should be social distancing and isolating. China and other Asian countries have done the best at flattening the curve, and the US, Russia, and Brazil have been among the worst.

Dena Churchill, a Canadian chiropractor formerly based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, has been ordered to pay 100,000 dollars as a settlement with the Nova Scotia College of Chiropractors (NSCC) due to her publically-expressed anti-vaccination views. Dr. Churchill has 10 years to pay the full amount, but the first 30,000 must be paid by the year 2022.

The investigation into Dr. Churchill began in May of 2018 and included posts from her personal website (then drsexymom, currently healthtruth.org) and thoughts expressed on a facebook page where she promotes herself as an “innovator in women’s health and wellness.” Dr. Churchill voluntarily gave up her chiropractors license in January of 2019 and admitted to being “professionally incompetent as a result of incompetence arising out of mental incapacity.” She reached a settlement with the NSCC in May. The last piece of the puzzle was the fees she has been ordered to pay to her regulating body.

What She is Paying For

The majority of the fees Dr. Churchill has been ordered to pay are those incurred by the hearing committee. These include the costs of the actual investigation, the hearing committee, solicitor fees, and charges against the defendant. The final payment agreement amount of 100,000 dollars is a reduction of the 178,831.34 dollars in fees incurred by the NSCC during the course of this investigation, although the larger amount initially proposed does include a charge that Dr. Churchill had already settled.

Outside the Norm

The NSCC hearing committee was quite firm in its condemnation of Dr. Churchill’s behavior. In their decision, they wrote,

Dr. Churchill’s conduct brought the profession of chiropractic into disrepute…Dr. Churchill has shown no remorse. There is genuine concern that she is ungovernable.”

As a member of a professional organization, Dr. Churchill is bound to the laws and regulations of that organization. She was asked multiple times to delete anti-vaccination posts from her social media accounts, an act that would have eliminated the need for this whole settlement had she done it. Now she’s paying the price for standing by her beliefs.

Governor Kate Brown of Oregon signed House Bill 2220 on May 6, 2019, to allow dentists in Oregon to administer vaccinations including MMR, HPV, and influenza shots to their patients during dental checkups

Dentists will need to be certified in order to administer the vaccines. They will need training on vaccination and they will have to comply with state vaccine storage and reporting regulations.

Dentists in Minnesota and Illinois can administer influenza vaccines to adults only. Oregon is the first state in the U.S. to allow dentists to vaccinate patients of any age or to vaccinate with more than only the flu shot.

Before dentists start vaccinating patients, the Oregon Board of Dentistry needs to figure out how to implement the new rules safely. Board director Stephen Prisby says one of the issues to be addressed is how dentists will know what vaccines their patients already received.

They won’t have all the vaccine history of a patient. They’ll have to communicate with the primary health care provider or have access to those records. So that’s one of those wrinkles we’ll have to be addressed in rules.

Researchers at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh believe that a cure for human metapneumovirus (MPV), one of the leading causes of the common cold and other respiratory diseases, may be in our near future.

Researchers are working on a vaccine for MPV.  The virus causes respiratory infections and is said to infect everyone by age 5.

Last weekBuzzfeed News reports that Amazon “appears to have removed” anti-vaccination documentaries like Vaxxed from Amazon Prime.

On the first of this month, California Rep. Adam Schiff published an open letter to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos asking that Amazon remove anti-vax content to from its website.

Schiff also wrote letters to Google and Facebook. Soon after YouTube banned advertising on some of the anti-vax videos and added additional pro-vaccine information. Google also said in a blog post that it will down-rank conspiracy theory videos.

Facebook says it’s “currently working on additional changes.”

The CDC and other government agencies are recommending the FLULAVAL and Tdap vaccines for pregnant women. The manufacturers of FLULAVAL and Tdap vaccines have not had any clinical safety trials with pregnant mothers and the vaccines are not licensed for use with pregnant mothers, according to the Children’s Health Defense.

The manufacturers warn against against vaccinating pregnant mothers:

There are insufficient data on FLULAVAL QUADRIVALENT in pregnant women to inform.”

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit was filed by Children’s Health Defense attorney, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. on behalf of Informed Consent Action Network to obtain clinical trial data used by FDA to approve influenza vaccines for pregnant women.

The FDA’s response:

We have no records responsive to your requests.”

The FDA is admitting that these vaccines being recommended for pregnant women have not been licensed for such use by the FDA or tested for safety for pregnant mothers in clinical trials.

WASHINGTON, D.C., Feb. 11, 2019—In response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit, the FDA has admitted, for the first time, that government agencies, including the CDC, are recommending vaccines for pregnant women that have neither been licensed for pregnant mothers by FDA nor tested for safety in clinical trials. The lawsuit, filed by Children’s Health Defense (CHD) attorney, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. on behalf of Informed Consent Action Network(ICAN), a vaccine safety advocacy group, sought all clinical trial data used by FDA to approve influenza vaccines for pregnant women. The FDA’s terse reply: “We have no records responsive to your requests.”

The manufacturers of flu and Tdap vaccines warn against their use for pregnant mothers since their safety has never been established. Package inserts state that it is “not known” whether the vaccines “will harm an unborn baby” and there are “insufficient data” on use in pregnant women to inform vaccine-associated risks. FDA regulations strictly prohibit pharmaceutical companies from marketing products for “off-license” uses. Noncompliant companies are routinely prosecuted criminally and civilly, paying billions in lawsuits and settlements.

The CDC nevertheless has actively recommended influenza vaccination during any trimester of pregnancy since 2004 and has told pregnant women to get Tdap shots (for tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) since 2011. The FDA is responsible for vaccine safety and licensing, but, in the just-released court documents, it admits that it has no safety data to back up the CDC’s “off-license” pregnancy recommendations. FDA’s website states that it has never formally approved any vaccines “specifically for use during pregnancy to protect the infant.”

Blanket recommendations for vaccination during pregnancy are a dangerous proposition due to vaccination’s ability to activate a maternal immune response that can damage the developing fetal brain—just as infections during pregnancy sometimes do. In 2008, neuroscientist Paul Patterson warned, “Even if it happens less than 1% of the time, vaccinating an entire population of pregnant women could affect thousands of children.”

Long-term safety studies have not been designed to detect vaccine-related fetal injuries, but a 2017 Kaiser study of over 45,000 women (published in JAMA Pediatrics) showed an elevated risk of birth defects and a 20% higher risk of autism in children whose mothers received a first-trimester flu shot. After the authors applied a statistical correction that lessened the significant association, renowned UCLA statistician Sander Greenland criticized the methodologically “inappropriate” decision, noting that pharmaceutical researchers use the technique when they don’t like a result and “want to see if they can get rid of it.”
