Last week Facebook attempted to censor NYU’s “Cybersecurity for Democracy” program.
The Cybersecurity for Democracy program is a team that focuses on how Facebook and other social media’s political ad programming works.
On August 3, 2021, Facebook, showed off its full 800-pound gorilla physique by attempting to crush the work of two New York University (NYU) researchers, Laura Edelson and Damon McCoy and their tool Ad Observer.
Facebook has been cracking down on censorship, with vaccine misinformation and Covid-19 misinformation. The assumption is that censorship mostly affects the right, however, the left is experiencing censorship as well. The Cybersecurity for Democracy project is a liberal project.
US Surgeon General Calls for Censorship by Big Tech
The US surgeon general has called for a war against Covid-19 “misinformation”, saying that it is urgent for our health.
With more than a third of Americans unvaccinated against Covid-19, the surgeon general states that ending the spread of misinformation is crucial to ending the pandemic.
Misinformation appears to be any information that questions the mainstream narrative. Both the left and the right have experienced massive amounts of censorship in months following the Covid-19 outbreak.
Big tech has censored medical experts, doctors, and front-line workers working closely with Covid-19. In a recent video, Kim Iverson lists a plethora of doctors and medical experts who have been censored by big tech.
Just months ago those who spoke out against ventilators or questioned the origin of the coronavirus were censored whereas now the mainstream narrative has changed.
This makes one wonder what information is being questioned right now that soon be questioned by the mainstream media.
Joe Biden Says Facebook is Killing People With Misinformation
President Joe Biden accused platforms, like Facebook, of “killing people” with Covid misinformation.
They’re killing people — I mean they’re really, look, the only pandemic we have is among the unvaccinated
The Surgeon General publically called health misinformation “a serious threat to public health” and called out Facebook for not doing enough to stop covid misinformation.
A Facebook spokesperson told CNN that more than two billion people have viewed “authoritative information” about Covid-19 and vaccines on Facebook.
Dr. Pierre Kory, Weinstein’s guest, has been a frontline doctor in the pandemic and an advocate for alternative covid-19 treatments. Senator Ron Johnson was recently banned from posting on his channel for the same reason.
Any media that goes against the mainstream narative is censorsed. For months any media about the possiblity of COVID-19 being made in a lab was censored. Now, after the President has called for a look into the origins of the virus, and the mainstream media natrative has changed, the information that was once censored is more widely available.
Poland Moves to Make Censorship by Big Tech Companies Illegal
Following the ban of Donald Trump on Twitter, the Polish government has announced that it will be making censorship by big tech companies illegal.
“Algorithms or the owners of corporate giants should not decide which views are right and which are not. Censorship of free speech, which is the domain of totalitarian and authoritarian regimes, is now returning in the form of a new, commercial mechanism to combat those who think differently.”
Donald Trump is not the only person experiencing censorship by big tech companies like Twitter and Facebook. Doctors who have spoken out against the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 protocol, journalists and whistleblowers such as Julian Assange and Edward Snowden, and media organizations who go against the mainstream, are all among groups experiencing censorship. Censorship isn’t a partisan issue. Both those on the left and right who speak out against the mainstream are experiencing censorship.
Parler- The Social Media Platform Everyone Is Talking About
Twitter and other social media apps have banned president Trump from their platforms after claims that his posts have “incited violence”. This is following the raids on the capitol earlier this month.
Following the president’s ban on social media, many people have joined the free speech platform “Parler”. Parler was started in 2018 by John Matze “After being exhausted with a lack of transparency in big tech, ideological suppression and privacy abuse”.
But Matze doesn’t want the app to be just an echo chamber for conservative voices. Personally, he says he doesn’t like either political party and he wants to see more healthy debate. He’s so intent on getting some liberals onto the platform that he’s offering a $20,000 “progressive bounty” for an openly liberal pundit with 50,000 followers on Twitter or Facebook to start a Parler account.
Most recently Parler was banned on both the google play store and the apple store and then taken offline by Amazon.
OLM is completely against sponsorship. Being an organic health magazine, we’ve experienced our fair share of censorship. Rather it be from Facebook or Google, our content about big Pharma, vaccines, and holistic healing, is often censored.
Google Removed Natural Health Websites From Search Results – List of Alternative Search Engines
The internet has increased our level of awareness to unprecedented heights. For better and for worse, we have had a freedom of information that we have never enjoyed before. One major drawback has been fake news (though the phrase has been co-opted to mean news one disagrees with). Today social media sites are using fake news and other disinformation as an excuse to censor alternative news and information.
A few years ago we saw the writing on the wall and we put our energy towards ensuring we ranked well on the search engines – primarily Google because they account for more than 95% of search engine web traffic.
But on June 3rd, Google had a major algorithm change, which nearly eliminated the organic search results for natural health websites including Green Med Info, Mercola,DrAxe.com, Naturalnews.com, and ours.
We agree that disinformation is a problem but questioning the prevailing wisdom, raising concerns, and alternative news is imperative for a fair democracy. Censorship is not what we need.
The problem of fake news isn’t solved by hoping for a referee, but rather because we as citizens, we as users of these services, help each other. We talk and we share and we point out what is fake. We point out what is true. The answer to bad speech is not censorship, the answer to bad speech is more speech. We have to exercise and spread the idea that critical thinking matters, now more than ever, given the fact that lies seem to be getting more popular.”
Google today is not only a weapon for promoting the pharmaceutical agenda but now also a drug company itself. During the past six years, Google’s parent company Alphabet has launched two pharmaceutical companies. In 2013, it founded Calico, run by Genentech’s former CEO Arthur Levinson. Calico operates an R&D facility in the San Francisco Bay Area for the discovery of treatments associated with age-related diseases. Two years later, Alphabet founded Verily Life Sciences (previously Google Life Sciences). Both pharma companies are partnering with other drug corporations. Recently, Verily has partnered with the European pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline to form a new drug company, Galvani Bioelectronics for the development of “bioelectronic medicines.” The collaboration is costing the companies $715 million, and the new firm is being chaired by Glaxo’s former chairman of its global vaccines business.
