Dr. Kelly tells us that when you chew your food long enough, your body will tell you if you should be eating it. Start chewing your food to the point other people wonder if you ever plan to swallow it. Pay attention to how it feels. Digestion begins in the mouth. Chewing well is the first stage of digestion. Not only will you be preparing the food for the second stage, but you’ll be sending signals to your entire digestive system to prepare itself for what is to come.
When your body doesn’t want the food you are chewing, ironically, your first impulse is to swallow it. Your body is saying, “I don’t need this. Nothing good is happening here. There is nothing to figure out.” Your body wants that food out of your mouth. The next time this happens, resist the urge to swallow. Spit.
When you chew your food well, you become in tune with your body. You will begin to know what your body wants.
Pay Attention To How Things Make You Feel
Like chewing your food, paying attention to how things make you feel is “living in the now.” Don’t put moisturizer on your skin just because it’s a habit. Does it make your skin feel better? How long before you need more? Does it actually make your skin drier in the long run?
If you smoke and you plan to quit on New Year’s, right now is the time to start paying attention. Smoking causes headaches through sinus pressure and by causing tightness in the muscles of the neck. It also causes migraines and allergies (including food allergies), wreaks havoc on your adrenal glands, makes you tired, lowers your overall productivity (making it easier to concentrate right after you smoke, but lowering your ability to concentrate and focus in the long run), and causes your body to stay out of alignment.
Did you know smoking inflames your cerebellum causing your neck to go out of alignment? This causes pinched nerves which can led to a host of problems and misalignment including carpal tunnel syndrome.
Smoking slows down your kidneys causing them to be more susceptible to infection and also causes lower back pain and hip misalignment. Smoking clogs your liver and kidneys leading to acne.
Of course, there are many other problems caused by smoking. And you may notice many of the same problems stem from an energy drink habit. The point is, pay attention. If you hadn’t noticed these reactions before, you will now.
How much energy do you have? Are you running on fumes? Are you pushing through your day more on will power and mind over matter than energy and vitality? It will catch up to you if you don’t pay attention now.
The hardest part about paying attention to our bodies is allowing ourselves to feel the aches and pains, the tension and dysfunction we have spent years learning to ignore. When you first tune in, don’t be surprised if you feel pretty crappy. You might even think you’re sick more often than before. Really tuning in to your body is a tough change, and for many, not pleasant, but in the long run it’s the only way to live a long and healthy life without medication.
Pick New Year’s Resolutions You Know You Can Keep
If you never go to the gym regularly and you’ve signed up every January, don’t do it again. January is the worst time to start going to the gym. It’s crazy! You won’t be able to get the equipment you want or the help you need to learn how to use it.
Try starting with body weight exercises at home. Try Hindu pushups (YouTube) and squats. There are hundreds of body weight exercises you can do without ever going to the gym. You can manipulate your center of gravity to create very challenging body building routines without using weights (and many argue this is a better way to exercise). If you don’t believe it, see how many one-legged squats you can do while holding the other leg out in front of you.
If you are too overweight or too weak to do any exercise you find on the Internet, try “get ups.” Lie flat on your back on the floor and get up into a standing position. Lie back down. You might be so out of shape you have to start with one or two get-ups. But you’ll be amazed what this simple exercise will do for you and how quickly you’ll build up to doing 20 or 30 (or more!) at a time. Two things to note: Alternate legs, changing both the one you use to get up, and the one you use to get down. Also, this is where we are legally obligated to tell you to consult a physician before starting any workout program. But if you do decide to consult with a conventional doctor who tells you that you are too unhealthy to work out in any capacity, please go get a second opinion.
Vow to Begin a New Resolution Every Month or Every Week
On the first week you can vow to start exercising. Try a few pushups on your knees and a ½ mile walk. On your second week, you can vow to start recycling. A few weeks down the road you can vow to remove any and all toxic body care products from your bathroom. A couple of months later you can vow to start going to the gym (after things have settled down, of course) when you know you are ready to stick with a routine.
Most Importantly – Don’t Give Up
If you fall off the wagon with any one of your resolutions, that doesn’t mean you need to wait until next year. You don’t even have to wait until next month, or next week, or even tomorrow. Health is a choice we make every minute of every day. Almost every time we are choosing anything, our health should play a part in the decision.
Our Toxic Loads
People who understand that there is only one disease, malfunctioning cells, are decades ahead of their doctors. While this may sound mundane, it is actually quite profound. Likewise there are only two causes of disease: deficiency and toxicity. When deficient, cells aren’t getting everything they need to support normal cell function. When toxic, cells are getting something they don’t need, which damages normal function.
Most people immediately think of toxins as things coming from outside the body, like pesticides and prescription drugs. But the truth is most of our toxic load comes from the body itself. Normal healthy metabolism produces lots of metabolic waste products, just as a factory produces industrial waste. Abnormal metabolism produces even more toxins. In fact detoxification is the biggest single item in our biochemical budget, not only for handling outside toxins, but for getting rid of metabolic products like used hormones and neurotransmitters. Otherwise, these can build up in the body and cause cellular malfunction and disease.
At some point, we have to get rid of nearly every molecule that the body encounters. To do this, our detoxification system involves a complex process to render a molecule inactive. This system is entirely dependent on the foods we eat for the raw materials it needs.
Our detoxification systems are designed to keep us in good health. Problems occur when we eat poor diets and fail to supply the system with what it needs or if we overload the system beyond its capacity with too many toxins. In today’s world, virtually every American is in some degree of toxic overload.
To achieve optimal health we have to nutritionally support the detox systems and reduce their loads to manageable levels. The first step in learning how to reduce our toxic loads is to recognize that the tens of thousands of man-made chemicals that make our every day living possible are not harmless. Many of these chemicals are invisible, odorless, and tasteless so we may not even be aware of their presence. We are exposed to toxic man-made chemicals from everyday items like magazines, newspapers, carpets, pillows, mattresses, clothes, cosmetics, toothpaste, and processed foods.
Toxic chemicals are responsible for many of our 20th century disease problems, especially the new syndromes that mystify our doctors. Fatigue, headaches, digestive upsets, flu-like symptoms, aching joints can all be caused by environmental chemicals. High blood pressure and even fatal cardiac arrhythmias can be caused by chemicals ranging from solvents to pesticides. People who wake up feeling sluggish may not realize that the cause is right under their nose, the polyester chemicals coming off their pillow.
Short of going back to living in mud huts, what can we do to protect our health? The answer is a lot! We can minimize our toxic loads. We can supply our body’s detoxification systems with the raw materials needed for efficient operation. This means eating a varied diet of fresh, whole organic foods, avoiding processed foods, and foods with known high toxic contents like meat and dairy. We can supplement our diets with high quality nutrients like folic acid, vitamin B6, magnesium, essential fatty acids, vitamin B12, methionine, reduced glutathione, alpha ketoglutarate, dietary fiber, and vitamin C. Minimize toxic loads by avoiding pesticides, prescription drugs, tap water, and packaged foods with their additives and packaging chemicals. Don’t breathe the fumes when putting gasoline in the car. Buy clothes, furniture, carpets, bedding, and personal care products made from all natural materials.
By getting adequate nutrition and avoiding toxins, average people can reduce their toxic loads to levels their bodies can handle, thereby pushing their personal equations toward health.
Doc Shillington’s 18 Ways to Live a Healthier Life
Have your Total Nutrition (click here for recipe to make your own), Udo’s Oil, and one or two raw, organic eggs every day (I call this the Green Dragon Recipe). This “highest grade fuel” gives your body the necessary building blocks so that it will start correcting itself. It will help you create and maintain excellent health.
Keep your intestines cleansed and purified. Intestinal cleansing will not only detoxify your body, it will also ensure there are no stoppages in the surrounding organs. It is important to keep your body’s flows moving efficiently, and the place to start is the bowel. This is vital.
Eat only organic foods, especially when it comes to meats. Commercial meats are loaded full of hormones, antibiotics, and steroids. Commercial vegetables are saturated with pesticides and due to modern day fertilizing and growing practices have very little nutrition in them. Use only organic body care products on your skin and hair.
When it comes to grains, seeds, nuts, and beans, eat only those products that have been sprouted! All other methods of preparation leave you with enzyme inhibitors that will make you fat and unhealthy. Stay away from all soy. Until this industry cleans up its act, it is best to drop it from your diet altogether.
If you don’t own a juicer, buy one and use it daily. Juicing is an excellent tool to aid in detoxing and for putting concentrated nutrition into your body. Get a slow juicer.
While keeping all the above in, and until you reach a state of excellent health, you should do my entire Total Body Cleanse Program at least twice a year. Three times is best if you can manage it.
Exercise every day! The best exercise I know of is running (Running Without Knee Pain). The next best is rebounding on a mini trampoline. Both of these workouts will exercise every cell in your body. This is absolutely essential to keeping the flows going. Start off with walking if that’s all you can handle, but eventually work up to a minimum of forty-five minutes of hard exercise each day. Work up a real sweat.
Stop watching television and reading newspapers. You don’t eat garbage. Why allow it into your mind? TV is one of the main causes of juvenile delinquency and low personal production.
Wear cotton, silk, hemp, and other all-natural fibers. Synthetic clothes can prevent your skin from breathing properly and can toxify your body.
Cook your food only in stainless steel, cast iron, or glass. Never cook in aluminum!
Drink only distilled water or purified water from a top notch purifier.
Start each day by acknowledging to yourself what a great person you are.
Help someone else every day. Help a child.
Do your part. Take responsibility for the earth by helping to keep it clean and toxin free. Recycle!
Create a garden and grow some flowers, fruits, and vegetables. Plant a tree once a month.
Put all your possessions in order and permanently get rid of those things you don’t need or want. Do a complete cleaning and reorganization of your living space so that it is neat and orderly.
Connect with your favorite groups and get involved. Continue learning new things and expanding your horizons. Make some new friends.
K. Rashid Nuri is a farmer. If this statement conjures an image of a white two-story farmhouse situated at the top of a rise, overlooking acre upon acre of planted fields that have been handed down through six generations, put a pin in it. Nuri is not that kind of farmer. A city boy, he grew up in Boston. His father had been an educator, his step-father a Navy man, and his mother a community activist. Nuri enrolled in Harvard to pursue a life in politics. He graduated with a degree in political science and enough math and science under his belt to pursue medicine if he was so inclined. But Rashid was a child of the ‘60s who dedicated his life to making a difference. He understood the fundamentals behind nation building—it doesn’t start from the top down; it starts from the bottom up. A nation’s first need is to clothe, shelter, and feed its people. Nuri chose food. “I set out to learn all about food from the seed to the table, and wanted to do this through practical experience.”
He started with a Masters in Plant and Soil Science from the University of Massachusetts. Practical experience began when his first job after college took him to San Diego County, California, where he installed organic gardens. Since that time he has worked in more than 35 countries around the world. “I have built farms, managed farms, worked with government, managed a 30,000 rose bush garden, taught organic farming, and spent years in agribusiness working with feed, seed, poultry, cotton and oilseed processing, and commodity trading.” He also served four years as a senior executive in the Clinton Administration, which included time served as the Deputy Administrator of the Farm Service Agency and Foreign Agricultural Service for the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
In 2006, Nuri brought his 40 years of experience to the creation of Truly Living Well Natural Urban Farms. This community supported agricultural project grows food on four sites in the Metropolitan Atlanta Area, providing nutritionally-rich, fresh-picked, organic produce to the community. Organic, urban food production minimizes the carbon footprint. Crops are not stored and shipped over great distances. Food does not lose its nutritional value. Crops are not contaminated by unwashed trucks or storage bins.
Most of the food produced by the farm is sold through Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) subscriptions, which are sold on a revolving basis. Each subscription punch card is good for 13 boxes of food, to be redeemed at the buyer’s convenience. Member subscription fees provide capital to purchase supplies and fund the operations. Truly Living Well also sells produce to local restaurants and to the community at large.
Yes, K. Rashid Nuri is a farmer. He is also a social activist. He fights hunger through his outreach efforts to help students, organizations, and individuals plant sustainable, organic gardens and through teaching opportunities at his farm. He serves on the board of Georgia Organics and is a member of the Atlanta Local Food Initiative. He is also OLM’s newest contributor and advisor.
Start paying attention to what is happening in this very moment. Live consciously and turn off the autopilot.
Breathe Deeply
Pay attention to your breathing. Breathe deeply by expanding your abdomen as you inhale.
Meditate
Every morning and/or every night, take some time to focus on the “now” and your breathing.
Learn One New Raw Food Recipe Every Week
If you are just learning to eat more raw fresh fruits and vegetables, it may seem as though there is not much to choose from other than salads and carrot sticks. There are thousands of raw recipes out there! Just try one new recipe every week.
You might not like every new dish, but it’s fun. If your family is afraid to try new things, like raw pumpkin pie, or raw avocado salad, try to get them involved. If everyone has input in choosing a raw recipe and they all help prepare it, they may be much more open minded and appreciative.
Reduce TV Time
You can pick your shows and schedule your TV time to ensure you are not mindlessly watching television and wasting time. If you want to turn on the tube when it’s not your scheduled time, that’s the time to pick up a book or meditate.
Read Ingredients
Most people are more concerned with what they put in their cars than what they put in their bodies. Start reading any and all ingredients of everything you eat that comes in a package or container.
Reading the USDA recommended daily percentages is not reading ingredients!
It doesn’t matter that a food has no sugar if it has artificial sweetners and other chemicals.
If you don’t know what something is, look it up. You’ll become familiar with those hard to pronounce ingredients in no time.
Expand Your Vocabulary by Signing Up For One New Word a Day
Check out WordSmith.org and sign up to receive an email with a new word everyday. Or go to merriam-webster.com to see their word of the day,. You can start sounding like you think you’re better than everybody else in no-time!
Start a realistic workout program
It may just be 10 minutes of yoga in the morning and a walk around the block in the evening, but choose something you know you can stick with and build on. A realistic workout program is better than a radical approach that will be forgotten quickly.
Get Enough Sleep
This is a tough one, but one that will pay you back in dividends. And more importantly, get quality sleep (check out our August issue).
Vow to improve Yourself Every Week
Why is it that people rarely consider self-improvement the other 364 days of the year? Why not pick a new resolution every week or every month? If you only picked one resolution this year, this should be it!
What About Vaccinations?
Popular opinion regarding vaccinations goes something like this: immunizations are one of modern medicine’s greatest achievements; they have prevented more suffering and saved more lives than any other medical procedure. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, the modern practice of mass vaccinations may well be the biggest medical blunder of all time. No reliable safety study has ever been performed on any vaccine, and evidence suggests that vaccinations may actually be quite harmful. Individuals without informed consent are being forced to risk death or injury. There is no accountability for the possible negative impacts of vaccinations. The individual is being sacrificed for the “good of society.” An examination of the literature clearly shows that vaccinations are both ineffective and dangerous.
The dramatic decline of infectious diseases, such as smallpox, diphtheria, and polio, is often cited as proof of the effectiveness of vaccination. Any risks or “side-effects” from vaccinations are supposedly far outweighed by the inherent benefits. Looking more closely, however, benefits are difficult to find while risks are quite apparent. The incidence of infectious disease dramatically decreased before the introduction of vaccines—vaccines get credit for something they did not do. For example, in 1950, polio was at its height in Great Britain. By the time polio vaccine was introduced in 1956, polio had already declined by 82%. Similarly, tuberculosis (TB) was a persistent killer throughout the 1800s and by 1945 had already declined by 97%. Recent worldwide outbreaks of virulent forms of TB have proven that “protection” by vaccine has little to do with whether or not one gets the disease. Other infectious diseases that were in decline before the introduction of their vaccines include whooping cough and measles. Their further decline after the introduction of their vaccines was likely a continuation of the existing trend. This is why countries that did not vaccinate against specific diseases experienced declines similar to those that did.
A stronger argument for the decline of infectious diseases can be made regarding better sanitation, less crowded living conditions, and increased availability of food. As Pasteur’s germ theory became common knowledge, better sanitation became a part of life. Infectious transmission dramatically decreased. As is the case with all disease, the level of immunity is most important. Wider availability of food helped improve the immunity of the population at large. In addition, diseases tend to have their own evolutionary cycles; they go away as the population gains “herd” immunity. Diseases like bubonic plague and scarlet fever experienced declines similar to other infectious diseases; they faded away without any immunization programs whatsoever.
Astoundingly, it is difficult to find any studies that prove the effectiveness of vaccines. To prove efficacy, we must analyze studies of vaccinated groups versus unvaccinated ones. Very few of these types of studies have ever been conducted. The few that have, indicate the vaccines are not effective, and are actually harmful!
One study in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that the incidence of meningitis in children vaccinated against it was five times higher than in unvaccinated children.
It is an undisputed fact that tuberculosis vaccinations have had absolutely no impact on the incidence of tuberculosis.
Diphtheria vaccination programs have been followed by unprecedented diphtheria epidemics among the vaccinated populations. In Germany during World War II, diphtheria vaccinations were made mandatory. The Germans experienced an immediate 17% increase in diphtheria cases and a 600% increase in mortality. At the end of the war, the vaccinations were stopped. There was an immediate and dramatic decline in the number of cases, despite widespread malnutrition and poor living conditions.
In the U.S., it is officially accepted that since its inception, the polio vaccine has
caused all cases of polio.
Dr. Vera Schreibner, a world authority on immunizations and author of Vaccinations, had this to say, “Immunizations…not only did not prevent any infectious diseases, they caused more suffering and more deaths than any other human activity in the entire history of medical intervention.” Having assembled the world’s largest collection of data on immunizations, Dr. Schreibner concludes, “One hundred years of orthodox research shows that vaccines represent a medical assault on the immune system.” Research by Dr. Schreibner and others continues to unveil the alarming truth about vaccinations. Here are some further examples: Pertussis vaccinations have been followed by cases of “provocation polio.” This kind of polio is well known to follow almost any vaccination, especially pertussis and polio vaccinations. Measles is another case in point. Measles constantly occurs in vaccinated populations. In fact, there is even a new and especially vicious form of measles called ‘atypical measles.’ It affects only vaccinated populations and is apparently the result of a deranged immunological response caused by the vaccine. New data reports sharp rises in diabetes among children vaccinated for meningitis. A recent article in Newsweek attributed the AIDS epidemic to oral polio vaccine given between 1957 and 1960. A growing number of researchers are now attributing the epidemics of childhood cancer, leukemia, asthma, autoimmune disease, cerebral palsy, infantile convulsions, and sudden infant death syndrome to vaccinations.
Each generation is getting more vaccinations and experiencing more immune dystoreunction diseases as a result. Dr. Terry Phillips, Professor of Medicine at George Washington University Medical Center, reported at an international conference in 1997 that the foreign proteins in virtually all vaccines wreak havoc with the human immune system. Vaccines alter the body’s immune response and do permanent damage. Why? Vaccines are loaded with all kinds of garbage that never should be injected into a human body. They are contaminated with animal viruses (monkeys, calves, and chickens) from which the vaccines are made. These viruses put a permanent antigenic burden on our immune systems. Some researchers believe that these persistent circulating antigens do continuing damage to both the immune and nervous systems causing immune suppression and dystoreunction, such as autoimmune disease. Vaccines also contain formaldehyde, aluminum, mercury, and a large assortment of foreign proteins, all of which are not good for you.
Dr. Harris Coulter in his book, The Assault on the American Child, says that the allergic response initiated when a vaccine is injected into the body is capable of causing encephalitis (an inflammation of the brain). Encephalitis can cause permanent brain damage leading to lifetime problems with autism, dyslexia, learning disabilities, behavioral disorders, and antisocial syndromes. Dr. Coulter estimates that 50% of the children who experience a fever after vaccination are actually suffering from encephalitis, which is doing various degrees of permanent brain damage. Coulter blames vaccines for the “new morbidity” of learning and behavior disorders.
There is a definite association between vaccines, learning disorders, and other modern brain dystoreunctions. The immediate effects of vaccinations can include convulsions, fevers, and allergic reactions, which are known to produce mental retardation, learning disabilities, paralysis, and epilepsy. Yet, there still are no long-term studies on the safety of vaccines. The studies often cited for vaccine safety are short term, often limited to only two days after injection. No studies have been done comparing cognitive or developmental function in vaccinated children versus unvaccinated. Sadly, we know little of what happens in the body during a vaccination; our knowledge of the long-term effects is almost nonexistent.
In October 2000, at the annual meeting of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS), a resolution called for an end to all government-mandated vaccinations. Even more astounding—the resolution passed without a single dissenting vote. Dr. Jane Orient, executive director of the AAPS said, “Our children face the possibility of death or serious long-term adverse effects from mandated vaccines that aren’t necessary or that have limited benefits.” The AAPS’s resolution read that “mass vaccination is equivalent to human experimentation and subject to the Nuremberg Code, which requires voluntary informed consent…” By failing to inform us of the dangers and taking away our power to choose otherwise, mandated vaccinations become a crime against humanity.
Physicians routinely prescribe procedures and medications with little regard for the damage they may do. The “benefit” of what they think they are doing is usually seen as being worth the risk. Vaccinations are a perfect example of this. When children have seizures, become mentally retarded, or develop polio after vaccinations, we are told that this is the price we must pay to eliminate these diseases from our population.
It is up to the individual to decide whether to be vaccinated, and parents must decide what is best for their children. These decisions should be based on accurate information. Unfortunately, much of the research questioning the safety and effectiveness of vaccinations has been effectively hidden from the public. Such information has been suppressed because few people would participate in the vaccination process if they knew the truth. This would make it impossible for the vaccination campaigns to “eliminate” all those terrible diseases.
So what if you don’t want to vaccinate your child—what do you do? Compulsory vaccination is the law in every state, but there are also legal exemptions for various reasons. Simply find out what the exemptions are in your particular state and get one. For example, all states have a medical exemption that a doctor can sign.
What if you are thinking about a flu shot? Consider this study published in the Lancet. The absenteeism of over 100,000 employees was measured each winter, concluding flu shots did not confer any protection. Flu shots appear to weaken and sensitize some people and actually cause the flu as well as other diseases. Outbreaks of deadly Legionnaires disease immediately followed flu vaccination campaigns. What about something like tetanus? Probably the single most important factor in preventing tetanus is thorough cleansing of the wound with removal of all foreign bodies and dead tissue. On rare occasion, “tetanus prone” wounds would justify the vaccine in those already immunized and immune globulin in those who have never been vaccinated.
To avoid an infectious disease, keep your immunity strong. Breastfeeding protects babies against many infections. Allergenic foods like milk and wheat should be avoided. Allergies lower immunity and predispose the body to infections. Nutritional status is critical to immune competence. Refined sugars are well known to damage immunity. Fresh fruits and vegetables are essential. Regular exercise, a good diet, and avoidance of allergens and toxins such as prescription drugs help maintain a healthy immune system with a high resistance to infections.
Moreover, a high-quality supplement program is essential to maintaining immunity. I recommend the Beyond Health
program, including 5000 mg of vitamin C per day, extra vitamin E in the form of Unique E and extra calcium. For those needing more protection, take two or three capsules of olive leaf extract per day as a preventative. As for vaccinations – caveat emptor!
Dr. Ian Shillington firmly believes each individual has the right and the responsibility to take charge of his or her health. With this goal in mind, he sets out to inform, to educate, and to empower everyone who seeks his medical advice. Although he has officially retired from practice, he maintains an Internet presence with a Yahoo group where he answers health questions. He runs an online store, maintains a website where he shares information including recipes for his nutritional and detox powders and tinctures, and he owns and operates a restaurant and a health food store.
Although Doc Shillington has shared a remarkably thorough list of natural treatments, he is always hesitant to discuss quick fixes for acute symptoms. His years of practice taught him that patients in search of the quick fix usually disregard the road to true health—the holistic mind, body, spirit approach to life which includes proper nutrition, exercise, and a regular schedule of total body detox.
Naturopathy Lecture – Dr. Ian Shillington, September 21 2002
Doc Shillington’s Total Body Detox includes a protocol for an intestinal cleanse, a gallbladder/liver cleanse, and a bladder/kidney cleanse. Together these three cleanses comprise his total body cleanse. For patients who are considered “incurable” (due to a chronic condition or a life threatening condition or disease) Dr. Shillington has designed a variation of his Total Body Cleanse, which can be found on his website.
The full Total Body Cleanse is intensive and expensive, but it is the best detox we have found to date. (Also note that many of the teas and tonics you will purchase will last for more than one detox.) Though the diet throughout the cleanse is vegan and as raw as possible, Dr. Shillington recommends eating as much as you want as often as you want. You won’t be hungry.
For most of the cleanse, we followed the incurables program and relied more on juicing than eating whole foods. Our energy was high and the results were exceptional.
One tester said, “My sleep was better. In the mornings, I woke in an instant, fully awake and aware. Aches and pains from old injuries disappeared. My eyesight improved. My attention and focus improved. My health was restored.”
One of the downsides to this cleanse is a lack of clear instruction. Doc Shillington’s website is confusing at best, very poorly designed, and at times difficult to navigate. Finding the regimen for the total body cleanse, and then making sense of it is difficult and time consuming. So we at OLM worked with Doc Shillington and put the regimen together for you (since we pulled much of Doc Shillington’s text word for word, we’ve given him the copyright from this point on).
OLM endorses this body cleanse program that requires you to adhere to a vegan diet during the duration of the cleanse. This means no meat, fish, fowl, or dairy. Eat nothing that had a face on it or came from anything that had a face on it, except for raw eggs, which are included in your Total Nutrition drink.
This is a three-part cleanse, beginning with the colon cleanse, followed by a liver and gallbladder cleanse, and ending with a kidney cleanse. If you have a particular problem with the kidneys, you can cleanse the kidneys before the liver and gallbladder.
The basic diet follows:
Upon Arising:
Drink 8 ounces of distilled water. This is a great way to start your day. The water rinses and flushes your digestive tract of any leftover food and digestive juices.
Breakfast:
Live, fresh fruit or vegetable juice is the best way to get your vitamins, minerals, and other essential nutrients. They are also very important for cleansing and detoxification. If you are hungry before lunchtime, you may have fruit, diluted fruit juices, and fruit smoothies. Stop all fruit or fruit juices at least 1 hour before lunch. It is best while on this program not to mix fruit and vegetables together.
Lunch:
For lunch you can have diluted fresh raw vegetable juices, raw vegetables alone or in salads, sprouts, potassium broth, and herb teas. You may make dressings for the salad if you like using olive oil, avocado, raw apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, garlic, onions, and any herbs and spices.
Afternoon Snacks:
Raw vegetables, raw vegetable salads, diluted vegetable juices, sprouts, potassium broth, Total Nutrition, and herb teas. All vegetable food must be stopped by 6 p.m.
Dinner:
Diluted fruit juices, fruits, fruit smoothies, fruit salads and herb teas.
This program requires you to exercise daily. Start with what you can physically tolerate and increase daily. Walking for 20-40 minutes twice a day is an excellent way to get your exercise. Make sure you sweat.
Hydrotherapy is the last requirement in this program. Hot and cold showers do wonders for your circulation and can speed your recovery incredibly fast. Start off taking a hot shower, as hot as you can stand it. Keep it hot for 3 minutes and then turn the hot all the way off. Stay in the cold water for 1 minute. Repeat this cycle at least twice for a minimum of 3 complete cycles. End with a nice hot shower.
Do not underestimate this procedure; it is powerful and miraculous. There are spas in Europe that specialize in curing “terminally ill” cancer patients using hydrotherapy alone. If you have a particular area of your body that is ill, buy a shower wand and concentrate more “hot & cold” on that area in addition to the above. Hot and cold packs will also work well to increase circulation to an affected area.
Special note: Never take Echinacea for more than three weeks at a time. This is one herb from which you need to rest.
Remember, this program restricts the types of food you will be eating, not the amount. If you are hungry at any point during this detoxification program, drink and/or eat more. The more you eat and drink, the more you will flush the toxins out of your body. Also remember to have a fun time. A positive, healing attitude is important. To achieve maximum benefits from this program, be loving to yourself.
Colon Cleanse, Week One:
8 oz of water in a.m. Total Nutrition —morning. Echinacea—2 droppers 3X a day Total Tonic—2 droppers 3X a day Intestinal Cleanse —Most people need from one to six capsules, but some have needed as many as 30 capsules.
To the diet listed above, add 8-16 ounces of carrot/beet juice per day with 4 garlic cloves.
Colon Cleanse, Week Two
Repeat week one and add Intestinal Detox. Take 5 to 6 times each day (every 3 hours on the average) for 5 to 6 days. Finish the jar of powder and/or bag of capsules within the week.
One hour after your morning nutritional drink mix 1 heaping teaspoon of Intestinal Detox powder with 8 ounces of diluted juice. Mixes best if you shake it in a small jar. (Or if you are taking capsules, take 8 capsules with your juice).
Do the same ½ hour before lunch, between lunch and dinner, ½ hour before dinner and 1 hour before bed, so that you are consuming a minimum total of 5 heaping teaspoons (or 40 capsules) each day.
During or after dinner, take your Intestinal Cleanse capsules as usual. When you start Intestinal Detox increase your regular dosage of intestinal cleanse by 1 additional cap, or more if necessary to have sufficient bowel movements. It is helpful to drink additional liquid after each dose of Intestinal Detox, at least 8 ounces.
Liver Cleanse, Week Three
The evening before you start, make the Liver Detox tea per instructions.
Liver Detox Tea
Total nutrition
Echinacea—2 droppers 3X a day
Total Tonic—2 droppers 3X a day
Intestinal Cleanse & Detox
–Liver Cleanse Day #1:
Continue with the same diet you have been eating for the past two weeks. First drink 8 ounces of distilled water. Within 1 hour prepare for the following morning drink: In Spring or Summer mix 8-ounces of fresh orange juice or a citrus juice combination (1 lemon or 1 lime and enough orange, grapefruit or tangerine to make 8 ounces). In Fall or Winter mix 8 ounces of fresh apple and/or grape juice with:
8 ounces of Distilled Water
1-5 clove(s) of garlic (start with one and increase daily)
1-5 tablespoon(s) of organic virgin cold-pressed olive oil (start with one and increase daily)
1-5 small pieces of fresh Ginger root (1 inch long – start with one and increase daily)
NOTE: IF YOU FEEL NAUSEATED AT ALL – ADD MORE GINGER
15 minutes after this drink, consume 2 cups of the Liver Detox Tea & 2 dropperfuls of Liver/Gallbladder Anti-Parasite tincture. The tincture can be taken straight or in a few ounces of purified water or mixed in with the tea. Repeat the tea and tincture 2 more times during the day.
Liver Cleanse, Days #2, #3, and #4:
Begin the 3 day juice fast. Start with your water, morning flush drink and herbal tea. Drink diluted fruit juices and herb tea until noon. Drink diluted vegetable juices, Potassium Broth, Total Nutrition and herb tea mid-day and afternoon. Take diluted fruit juices and herb tea again in the evening. Consume at least 1 gallon of liquid (8 ounces every hour)! If you get hungry, DRINK MORE!
Liver Cleanse, Day 5 – Liver Gallbladder Bomb:
This is the day you break your fast. After your morning drink, you can have some fresh fruit. Chew it very slowly and mix each mouthful with plenty of saliva. Remember, breaking your fast is a very important part of this program. Chew your food well and eat until satisfied, not full. You can always eat more later if you are still hungry. After 1:00 PM you should have a small vegetable salad and fruit again in the evening, chewing everything to a liquid pulp.
Tincture–The “Bomb”:
At bedtime, drink ½ cup of warm, unrefined olive oil blended with ½ cup of fresh lemon juice. Immediately go to bed and lie on your right side with your right knee pulled up close to your chest for 30 minutes.
Thereafter do the bomb each evening before you go to bed until there are no more gallstones (little dark green globules from the size of BBs up to the size of a mothball) coming out the following day. Do not start on the Week 4 program until the bomb is over and done with.
Kidney and Bladder Cleanse, Week Four
The night before you begin, make the Kidney/Bladder Tea per the instructions on the package.
Stop taking echinacea, Intestinal Cleanse #1 & #2, and discontinue the Liver Detox Tea and tincture. Continue taking Total Nutrition, Total Tonic, and cayenne drops (in tea or water).
Day 1 Upon Arising:
Drink your water. Within 1 hour prepare the following Morning Drink:
Kidney & Bladder Flush Morning Drink
Juice of one lemon and one lime
16 to 32 ounces of distilled water
A pinch of cayenne pepper or 1 to 10 drops of Cayenne Tincture
Optional – maple syrup (a little) to taste:
End of Cleanse, Week Five
Begin all over again at Week #3 if you wish to do a more concentrated detox and cleanse program.
Take it easy when returning to a new healthy food program. Choose lighter foods for a few days and be careful not to overeat. Chew your food well. Eating smaller meals more often is better than one or two large meals. Enjoy your new set of values on food choices and amounts. For the best health, eat lots of raw, organic foods that are grown locally and in season. Repeat this program until you are well, but do it at least twice more after you have recovered. OLM
