Health Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar & How to Make Your Own

Fermented foods are becoming very popular, and for good reason. They are rich in probiotics and enzymes and have highly bioavailable forms of the nutrients contained within the food or beverage being fermented. In this case, the health benefits of apple cider vinegar come from the mighty apple, and the results couldn’t be much more spectacular.

Apple cider vinegar may seem to be a new fad, but it actually has been used for thousands of years. Babylonians used it as a tonic in 5000 B.C., Egyptians used it in 3000 B.C., and Samurai warriors used it 1200 B.C.. Hippocrates also recommended apple cider vinegar over 400 years ago, so this fermented beverage is certainly in good company.

Nutrients Available in Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar contains more than 90 different nutrients and co-factors that make this a truly remarkable beverage for your nutritional needs. Check out this following profile:

  • A good source of potassium and magnesium, and also contains calcium, chlorine, copper, iron, fluorine, and sodium.
  • Contains vitamin A, B1, B2, B6, C, and E
  • An excellent source of enzymes and probiotics.
  • A good source of acetic, malic, lactic, and various amino acids.
  • A good source of pectin and fibre.
  • A quality source of electrolytes.
  • A source of ash (gives it its alkaline property).

Of course, the level of each of these nutrients will depend on the quality of the product.

Apple Cider Vinegar Benefits

With its rich source of vitamins, minerals, enzymes, probiotic, acids, and fibre, it is little wonder why apple cider vinegar has so many health benefits. It balances pH levels in the body and is very antiseptic, anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal.

With all of these things in mind, take a look at some of its incredible benefits:

  • Balances the inner ecosystem, the gateway to good health.
  • Prevents and relieves indigestion
  • Helps remove acid reflux
  • Promotes bowel regularity
  • Improves blood sugar balance
  • Helps relieve allergies
  • Helps eliminate sinus infections, sore throats, headaches, and flu
  • Clear ups skin problems like acne, eczema, and warts
  • Lowers high cholesterol and high blood pressure
  • Destroys Candida and fungus, and populates the gut with beneficial bacteria
  • Eases inflammation associated with arthritis and gout
  • Increases stomach acid, which facilitates stronger digestion and nutrient absorption
  • Overall detoxifier
  • Facilitates weight loss
  • Cleanses lymph nodes
  • Cleanses the scalp and can help grow hair
  • Soothes sunburn
  • Eases varicose veins
  • Provides energy

With all these benefits, it makes apple cider vinegar hard to ignore as a potential remedy to most of what ails you!

Apple Cider Vinegar Remedies and Practical Uses

So, how do you use apple cider vinegar? Turns out there are plenty of ways to use it so that you can enjoy the benefits without the unpleasant taste or burn that some people may experience. For those who can’t handle apple cider vinegar straight, you can put two ounces in one cup of water. But for those treating a symptom such as a sore throat or acid reflux, the treatment is faster and more effective with straight apple cider vinegar. Here are a few of its uses:

  • Acid Reflux and Heartburn – Imbalanced stomach pH is mostly to blame for this condition, along with a lack of enzymes and probiotics. Apple cider vinegar contains all of these nutrients, and simply adding 2 ounces to a cup of water and drinking it up to 15 minutes before a meal will improve acid reflux. It will also work improve the digestion of your meal. To treat existing heartburn (as opposed to prevention), take a shot of plain apple cider vinegar (2 ounces). It’ll burn for a moment going down, but it does the trick without the side effects of conventional remedies.
  • Colds and Sore Throat – Due to its antibacterial effects and probiotic content, apple cider vinegar is a nice 1-2 punch on colds and sore throats. Put 2 tablespoons in one glass of water, and take up to 3 times daily to help get rid of both. Gargle before swallowing. For a more potent treatment, you can also drink it straight. And for sore throat relief for those who cannot stomach it straight, try gargling with 2 ounces of plain apple cider vinegar and then drink and swallow two ounces mixed with water.
  • Remove Warts – Put directly on wart and cover with a bandage. Leave on overnight and remove in the morning. Repeat for as little as 1 week or until you see results.
  • Fight Seasonal Allergies – Apple cider vinegar breaks up mucous and and supports lymphatic drainage. It can also clear your sinuses. Drink 2 tablespoons in a large glass of water, 3 times daily.
  • Ease Varicose Veins – Apple cider vinegar improves circulation in vein walls and is anti-inflammatory, so it reduces bulging veins. Combine it with witch hazel and apply with a circular motion. Look for improvements in a couple weeks.
  • Sunburn Relief – Add 1 cup of apple cider vinegar to a warm bath, along with some coconut oil to ease sunburnt skin.
  • Deodorant – Kills bacteria and yeast which is a major cause of body odour. Simply dab some apple cider vinegar on your fingers and run it through your armpit.
  • Hair Wash – Apple cider vinegar corrects the scalp’s pH, and removes residue from it. Use 1 tablespoon to 1 cup of water in an old shampoo bottle and use as a final rinse, or you can get this excellent hair formulation.
  • Skin Toner – The pH of apple cider vinegar makes it a great remedy for skin issues. Just rub some on the affected area and use coconut oil to moisturize afterwards.
  • Teeth Whitener – Take your finger and rub apple cider vinegar on your teeth for a minute. Rinse with clean water.
  • Household Cleaner – The anti-bacterial qualities of apple cider vinegar and its balanced pH make it a great household cleaner. Simply fill spray bottle with 50% apple cider vinegar and 50% water, then use as you would any liquid cleaner.
  • Flea Repellent for Pets – Prepare a 50/50 apple cider vinegar and water solution and spray on your pets in affected areas. You can also prepare a tub and soak your pet in it once a day for a couple weeks to get rid of nastier infestations.

Apple Cider Vinegar Recipes

One of the easiest ways to add apple cider vinegar to your diet is to use it wherever you would normally use white vinegar in a recipe. Some good examples of how to use it as a more integrated part of your diet include:

braggs apple cider vingegarIt can also be used to make a homemade insect repellent and part of a tonic that can help rid your body of bacterial infections.

The list of health benefits for apple cider vinegar seems endless, but it is only 1 part of a healthy lifestyle. So tell us, what are you using apple cider vinegar for that works really well?

When purchasing apple cider vinegar for internal use, be sure to purchase raw, unfiltered, organic vinegar. We love Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar.

You can also make your own!

Homemade Apple Cider Vinegar from Scratch

10 organic apples
Two large glass bowls
Cheesecloth to cover the bowls or large mouth jars

Wash and cut apples into quarters. Leave out and allow apples to brown, and then put them into one of the bowls (or jar). Add distilled water, enough to cover the apples. Cover the bowl with the cheesecloth and leave in a warm, dark place for 6 months. A hot water closet works well. You can also store it in an attic or well house during warm weather months. Leave the bowl/jar to stand, covered for six months, stirring once a week. Retrieve the bowl/jar at the end of the 6-month fermentation period. There will be a layer of scum on top of the liquid. This forms from normal bacteria as alcohol turns to vinegar. Filter the liquid through the cheesecloth slowly into another glass jar. This can be done by holding the cheesecloth securely onto the first jar or using a coffee filter. Then tip it to let liquid through and into the second jar. Do this until all the liquid is filtered and transferred to the second jar and then leave it for another 4-6 weeks, again, covered with the cheesecloth.

Then your apple cider vinegar is ready to consume and/or store.

Crazy… – Letter from the Editor

It’s crazy, the idea that what we consume can cause disease. Everyone knows disease is something you catch, the card fate has dealt you, something out of your control. Toxins can accumulate in the body because of what we eat and due to our environment, sure, but this wacky idea that they have anything to do with cancer or other disease is a slippery slope. Next you’ll hear that reducing your body’s toxic load and getting the right nutrition can actually prevent disease. It’s as if these wacky people think our body’s cells actually depend on nutrition to function properly. Then we’ll hear really crazy things like nutrition can actually rid the body of disease!

I know, it’s sad. The people making these claims are obviously just greedy individuals trying to sell us something, unlike our pharmaceutical companies that actually care about their customers.
It really is a dangerous path, this whole “natural remedies” idea. Can you imagine what would happen to our beloved industries if people quit eating fast food on a regular basis, and demanded truly organic produce, and did not need to take pills for headaches and other symptoms of poor health? Sure, a few million lives would be saved, but do you have any idea what this would do to the stock market?!?!?

Back in the day, Dr. Gerson, that wacky cancer curing doctor who did all that cancer research many intelligent red blooded Americans were smart enough to ignore, was the first to adamantly oppose the tobacco companies. He suggested that people should not smoke. Not long after that, the American Medical Journal lost its largest source of advertising revenue, the tobacco companies. Thankfully our drug companies stepped up to fill the void.

Take a cheap multivitamin every morning, start an aspirin regimen, see your conventional doctor for regular checkups, be sure to get your recommended dosage of radiation via x-rays and mammograms and whatever else they offer, eat only pasteurized and/or cooked dead food, and pray for good health. Oh, and exercise, but don’t overdo it! Remember to stop all exercise before it becomes uncomfortable. And if you are not completely healthy, maybe exercise isn’t a good idea. </sarcasm>

Cure Cancer Naturally

Federal Law requires that we warn you of the following: Natural methods can sometimes backfire (as can “conventional” methods). If you are pregnant, consult your physician before using any natural remedy. Any opinions put forth by this publication, its doctors, staff, and contributors are simply their opinions. It is up to you to educate yourself and discuss treatment modalities with your health care practitioners. By accepting Organic Lifestyle Magazine’s advice, you are agreeing to be fully responsible for your own health and to hold Organic Lifestyle Magazine, Inc. and its contributors free from liability.
I am not a physician; I legally cannot tell you how to cure yourself of cancer. What I can tell you is what I would do if I were to be diagnosed with cancer, diabetes, or any other serious or “chronic” disease.

First and foremost, if you are looking to cure cancer the natural way, you need to accept that diet, more than anything else, is what got you here. And diet is what will get you back to a healthy state. Produce will become your best friend.

I would start by following a full body detoxification regimen that maximizes nutrition and minimizes toxins. Digesting food, even healthy food, can be taxing to the body. Juicing and proper food combining minimizes the load on the body, easily allowing it to assimilate nutrients and spend its energy on healing. In addition, if I were to follow this program, three things would happen to my body that are necessary to restore the body’s health: the liver would begin working again; the body would absorb and properly assimilate beneficial, anti-inflammatory fatty acids; and the body would become more alkaline.

To better understand fat, the liver and gallbladder, and health aspects of the body’s PH, be sure to click on the embedded links.

This diet has certain aspects of both Dr. Budwig’s and Dr. Gerson’s protocols along with a few key differences that I believe would help speed up recovery and healing.

Juicing

Juicing is a great aid in detoxification. First and foremost, I would purchase the right kind of juicer (this is an absolute must). A centrifugal juicer will not do. The juicer has to press the juice out without high speeds or heat to ensure phytonutrients, enzymes, and other beneficial components (many of which are yet to be discovered) are not damaged. And a good juicer won’t oxidize the juice. Unfortunately these kinds of juicers are slower, more expensive, and usually more difficult to clean.

To see a comparison of some of the best juicers, check out our next article, Best Juicer.

Supplements

I would not take multi vitamin or mineral pill form supplements for this diet for two reasons:

  • Even very high quality vitamin and mineral supplements can unbalance the body
  • This protocol provides enough vitamins and minerals in the best form possible with all of the important components needed to easily absorb and assimilate them.

I would, however, take truly whole food multivitamins and certain supplements to help kick start my immune system and my body’s ability to detoxify.

The most natural, absorbable, absolutely pure multivitamin/mineral supplement is Total Nutrion Formula. You can make your own or purchase here. There are supplements that have more, but this product makes for a complete foundation that will make it easier to absorb and assimilate nutrition from the rest of your diet. And remember, it;s not how many vitamins are on the label, it’s how much quality nutrition your body assimilates.

Other supplements include Udo’s Oil 3-6-9 with DHA (full spectrum of beneficial fatty acids), Thorne Vitamin D-5000Vitalzym Systemic EnzymesThorne SFF722 (kills candida), HM Complex (heavy metal detoxification), Echinacea Plus (immune system), Blood Detox Formula and Tea, and Coptis Chinensis Extract (immune system).

I would also supplement my diet with raw, unprocessed, high quality honey (1 teaspoon twice a day) and Himalayan salt (one teaspoon a day). While alternative and conventional health practitioners recommend staying away from salt, I use unrefined sea salt that is full of trace minerals. I believe the problems associated with salt are due to the use of refined table salt. But it doesn’t take much.

Exercise

For many reasons, I would continue to exercise. I’d exercise hard and work up a sweat. If I were out of shape, I’d work up to it; I believe too many people underestimate the benefits of serious exercise. Depressed people are more likely to get sick. A better mood can help heal the body and the mind. Exercising boosts the immune system, causes the body to release endorphins, and to release toxins. The body releases more toxins through the skin and from breathing than it does through urinating and defecating.

Hydrotherapy

I would also practice hot and cold hydrotherapy to help further detoxify my blood and break down tumors. Dr. Shillington has witnessed dramatic shrinkage of tumors in one day with multiple applications of hot and cold hydrotherapy.

Sunlight

I would sit in the sun for at least 15 minutes a day. Sunlight doesn’t cause cancer (though sunburn can). Sunlight has been proven to prevent cancer. Vitamin D from its most natural source is better than any pill form of vitamin D I could take.

Fruits and Vegetables

I would be buying a lot of produce. The better the quality of produce, the faster I’d attain my goals. I would find local farmers markets that sell produce from farmers who practice organic growing methods and crop rotation. Their produce is rich with enzymes, minerals, and all the other good stuff I’d need. I’d also need a wide variety of produce, some of which may not be available from locally grown or organic sources. So I would start a garden and grow as many of my own vegetables as possible.

Fruits and vegetables would all be juiced except for apples and pineapple which I would juice and eat raw. The apples would be green, like Granny Smith apples.  I would make every effort to choose fresh, local, organic produce. If I had to pick and choose which produce would be organic, I would always choose organic apples and berries and organic root vegetables like carrots, radishes, and beets. Apples and berries are over sprayed, while root vegetables absorb toxins from the soil.  These particular fruits and vegetables are shown to contain significantly higher amounts of pesticide residue.

I’d also look for variety. For instance, heirloom tomatoes and carrots are more nutritious than their conventional counterparts. The following would be my shopping list, and would be organic whenever possible:

  • Citrus Fruit (all varieties)
  • Green Apples (Red apples contain too much sugar. Absolutely must be organic.)
  • Beets (Great for detoxifying the blood and cleansing the liver. Look for different kinds. Must be organic.)
  • Ginger (Good for nausea and digestive problems. An anti-inflammatory that promotes healthy blood circulation. Always add to juice with beets, garlic, or radishes.)
  • Pineapple (Contains a massive amount of enzymes. Loaded with vitamins and minerals. I would not eat pineapple initially, if I were diabetic.)
  • Carrots (Must be organic.)
  • Spinach (Absolutely must be organic.)
  • Rainbow Chard (Provides antioxidant protection in the form of phytonutrients and vitamin C.)
  • Garlic (Garlic contains germanium, an anti-cancer agent.)
  • Spanish Black Radish (Protects against free radicals and aids the liver. Must be organic.)
  • Tomatoes (Contain large amounts of vitamin C, lycopene, courmaric acid, and chlorogenic acid, all of which help fight cancer. Must be organic.)
  • Parsley (Increases the antioxidant capacity of the blood. Is an anti-bacterial and a blood purifier. Improves digestion of fats and is high in enzymes.)
  • Cilantro (An anti-inflammatory that fights free radicals. Must be organic.)
  • Kale
  • Lemons (Aids the liver in flushing out toxins. Helps the kidneys flush out fluids. Great source of Vitamin C.)
  • Celery and Celery Leaves (Nutrients in the fiber are released during juicing. Leaves and stems provide a wide variety of vitamins and minerals.)
  • Blueberries (Massive amounts of cancer fighting antioxidants and a wide array of vitamins and minerals. Absolutely must be organic.)

Protein

If I decided I needed more protein after the first two weeks, I would add a vegan protein such as ground hemp seeds and/or ground flax seeds to the diet. Another good choice is Pure Green Protein. These are both amazing sources of protein, so I wouldn’t need much, just a few tablespoons.  This diet combined with a few tablespoons of either flax or hemp seeds will give most athletes enough protein. It’s actually much harder to assimilate protein from cooked meat. But it is important to make sure the hemp or flax seed is ground up so it can be digested. It doesn’t matter how much protein I consume; what matters is how much my body properly assimilates. It is important that I not eat any other nuts or seeds on this routine, so I don’t upset the fatty acid balance in the diet.

Food Combining

Apples can be combined with any fruit or vegetable juice, but I wouldn’t combine any other fruits with vegetables.

Lemonade Recipe

I would make lemonade with lemons, stevia, and cayenne pepper (ground or liquid extract). I’d make as much as I wanted and would drink as much as I could.  The first thing I would consume each morning would be warm lemonade. Lemon juice aids the liver in flushing out toxins.

Coffee Enema

The most unpleasant step in this routine is the coffee enema, a necessity for the very ill because the liver may be too weak to rid the body of toxins. As tumors are broken up and absorbed by the body, they also create toxins. If I were carrying a heavy toxic load and my body could not eliminate the toxins, I would die. This is not an exaggeration. I could do everything else perfectly, kill all the cancer cells, and still die due to an overburdened, toxic liver.

coffee beansThere is the possibility I wouldn’t need the enemas. Maybe I could use a liver supplement. Maybe just eliminating toxins would be enough. But if I had any concern about liver toxicity or knew my body was trying to absorb tumor tissue, I would do coffee enemas no matter how unpleasant they may be. Besides, even if I didn’t absolutely need them, they would speed up my healing.

It is extremely important that enemas for the liver are done properly. I wouldn’t use too much coffee and I would be sure the solution is not too hot.
The Gerson Protocol includes coffee enemas every few hours, but for regular detoxification most alternative health practitioners recommend two times once or twice a week. It is important to do at least two coffee enemas within the same day between four and six hours apart because the first enema causes bile to be dumped into the small intestine, which then needs time to pass the bile into the colon where the second enema can remove it.

I would decide frequency and duration based on my illness and toxicity level. If my body were continuing to absorb tumors, I would continue with enemas throughout that process. If my tumors were gone, I would restrict this practice to one or two months.

For more information on coffee enemas and how to do them see Coffee Enema.

Dr. Budwig’s Flaxseed Oil and Quark

quarkI’d love for this regimen to be 100% vegan, but Dr. Budwig’s program calls for quark or cottage cheese for a very good reason. I looked at several alternatives and am not comfortable with the efficacy of them.

When the body is sick, the liver is overwhelmed and it cannot properly process fats and essential fatty acids. Dr. Budwig discovered the combination of flaxseed oil and quark (a type of cheese which is high in sulphurated protein) makes the fats and essential fatty acids water soluble and easily used by the body’s cells. For more information and a step-by-step guide on this, check out Dr. Budwig’s Flaxseed Oil and Quark in this issue. I believe Udo’s Oil 3-6-9 with DHA is superior to plain flaxseed oil.

Heavy Metal Chelation

HM Complex is an orally administered metal chelator that mild environmental exposures of mercury, arsenic, cadmium, lead and tin without altering excretion of other minerals, including calcium, magnesium, iron, copper and selenium.

Step by Step

(Assuming a sleep schedule of 8 hours a night from 10pm until 6am)

Days 1-3

6am

Upon waking, I would make a half gallon of lemonade with the aforementioned recipe. I would heat up about 8 ounces and drink it.

I would then prepare and do the coffee enema.

Next I would blend ¼ of a cup of organic quark (or organic cottage, goat or sheep cheese if available) with 2 tablespoons of Udo’s Oil 3-6-9 with DHA. I would add a pinch of Himalaya salt (not even enough to taste) and a tablespoon of unrefined honey and eat.

Then I would exercise hard and get sweaty. After exercise I would complete hot and cold hydrotherapy. I like to go to the gym and do a nice workout and follow it up with the dry sauna turned all the way up for five minutes followed by 1 minute in a cold shower.

Note: I would drink lemonade as much as I can throughout the day, every day.

9am

I would take the above supplements with the juice of 2 apples, 5 carrots, 1 to 2 stalks of kale, ¼ a beet, to taste (this is assuming medium sized produce) or I would make citrus juice. I would alternate juices, depending on my mood and cravings.

12am

I would eat as much fresh pineapple as I wanted with a whole raw apple followed by the quark and Udo’s Oil.

3pm

6pm

My least favorite part of the day would be 6pm because I would follow a coffee enema with equally unpleasant juice. I would make apple juice for the base with garlic, beets, Spanish black radish, cilantro, parsley, tomatoes, and any other fresh vegetables. The garlic, beets, and Spanish black radish can and most likely will cause an upset stomach for a few minutes. How much of these vegetables I incorporate into the juice would depend on my tolerance at the time. (In my experience, tolerance for these juices builds over time).

9pm

I would make some more quark and Udo’s Oil to take along with the following supplements:

Days 4-7

The only difference between days 4-7 and days 1-3 is that Captomer should not be taken, and one may need to consider replacing it with Thorne Heavy Metal Support.

Week 2

The same as week 1, except eliminate Echinacea and Coptis Chinensis. Resume the following week and  continue to take them on alternate weeks.
I would repeat this week for 4 to 8 weeks depending on the severity of disease. Once I run out of supplements, with the exception of UDO’s Oil, I would simply quit taking them.

Month 2 (or Month 3)

I would come off of the coffee enemas. I would purchase one new supplement not mentioned above called Thorne Liver Cleanse SF769. My concern is that my liver may grow addicted to caffeine and will not work as well without the aid of supplementation.

I would continue this phase of the diet as long as it takes for me to feel that my health is at optimal working condition.

Coming Off the Diet

Coming off of a diet like this should be done gradually and carefully. Lots of raw fresh vegetables and fruits should always be one’s main staples, but especially so after a detoxification regimen and/or a fast. When coming off of this diet I would not eat starchy foods immediately. Doing so could actually kill me. My colon would no longer have what it needs to digest starchy foods like mashed potatoes or white rice.

I would start eating salads and smoothies first and, if I were to incorporate cooked foods, I would slowly include oatmeal, quinoa, and brown rice.

Conclusion

Knowing what I know about disease and health, this is exactly what I would do to restore my health, regardless of the disease. If I didn’t know what I know, I would do considerable research on alternative treatments and read everything and anything I could about Dr. Budwig and Dr. Gerson.

Remember, our health is our responsibility. Education is key.

The Big C

The big C – Cancer. The word strikes fear in the bravest of us all, and rightly so. The American Cancer Society reveals the current, chilling statistics: one out of every two men and one out of every three women will battle cancer at some point in their lives. And too often, they will lose. Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States.

The National Cancer Institute’s statistics report a 66%, five-year survival rate. Longitudinal studies reveal a 58-59% twenty-year survival rate. Conventional medicine claims today’s statistics prove current treatments are effective at curing cancer or at the very least extending life. Not everyone agrees with these claims.

Cancer is a slow moving disease; early detection is increasing. The earlier cancer is detected, the greater the odds of living for five years, with or without effective treatment. Critics, such as Mike Anderson, (from the documentary, Healing Cancer from the Inside Out) contend the increase in numbers of cancer patients living for five years is caused by the increase in early detection rather than the efficacy of current conventional treatment. In addition, he contends the methodology of reporting numbers is highly suspect—that the cancer industry massages numbers to support claims of effective treatment.

The National Cancer Institute’s data graphs show significant improvement in the survival rate for lymphoma and melanoma. When these numbers are combined with the statistics for all types of cancers, the overall cancer survival rates dramatically improve. But when the other cancers are looked at individually, their survival rate from 1975 through today shows negligible improvement on a graph.

Cancer begins with a single damaged cell—a cell that refuses to follow a normal life cycle of growth, division, and death. The cancer cell mutates and refuses to die; instead dividing to form a mass we call a tumor, or, in the case of leukemias, disrupting normal processes in the bone marrow and blood.

As cancer grows, tumors impede normal function of organs and body systems. The bloodstream and the lymphatic system become the means for cancer cells to invade other parts of the body.

Conventional treatment zeros in on the tumor or tumors, primarily using surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation to kill the cancer cells. Treatment is aggressive and invasive. Chemotherapy and radiation destroy healthy tissue as well as cancerous tissue. Chemotherapy also suppresses the patient’s immune system, raising the risk of death by other causes such as pneumonia.

Nutritionally based alternative treatments such as the Gerson and Budwig diets view the tumor as a symptom of disease, not the cause. Treatment is focused on building health, strengthening the immune system and the liver, raising oxygen in the cells, detoxifying the body, and eliminating the wastes created as the body wages war against the cancer.

Whichever protocol you choose to follow, select a proven path and fully consider your ability to comply. If you’re a person who “can’t follow a diet to save my life,” conventional treatment may be a better fit for you. If you choose the alternative route, be sure to surround yourself with a safe and protective support system. Naysayers, both professionals and laymen, are vicious. They will leave no stone unturned in their efforts to undermine your decision, your confidence, and your resolve. They will truly believe you to be a fool in need of their advice and they will make every effort to bring you over to their way of thinking. Strangely enough, their concern for you, heartfelt as it may be, may vanish when alternative treatment is successful. Don’t be too surprised when they don’t show the least interest in your success.
You choose the way you live. You choose your quality of life. Choose well.

Coffee Enemas – How To, What You Need To Know, and Why

How Coffee Enemas Work

Coffee enemas are not done to improve intestinal functionality or to cleanse the colon. They are done to stimulate and detox the liver and gallbladder. During a coffee enema, coffee is absorbed into the hemorrhoidal vein, then taken up to the liver by the portal vein.

The body reuses bile. If the liver cannot expel all of the toxins within the bile, the toxins may continue to accumulate in the bile. The caffeine, theophylline, and theobromine cause dilation of blood vessels and bile ducts, while palmitates, the enzymes in coffee, stimulate the liver to produce new bile. The old toxin-laden bile is dumped into the large intestine where it is safely expelled from the body.

In 1981, Dr. Wattenberg and his colleagues, Sparrins and Lam, at the University of Minnesota, were able to show that palmitic acids found in coffee, kahweol and cafestol palmitate, also stimulate an enzyme system in the liver (glutathione S-transferase) above the norm. This enzyme system is responsible for removing electrophiles from the bloodstream (free radicals). The liver’s ability to remove these free radicals is increased by 600%-700% over normal levels.

To get the same effects by drinking coffee, one would have to drink about a liter at once—so much that the side effects would far outweigh the benefits.

How to Perform a Coffee Enema

You will need an enema bag, organic freshly ground fully caffeinated coffee, distilled water, a large pan, a fine metal strainer, and lubricant for inserting the tube into the rectum.

Consider Wilson’s Therapeutic Coffee Beans, which are organic, bird friendly, and up to 48% higher in caffeine and up to 87% higher in Palmitic Acid. (Note:  they did not pay for this mention. OLM doesn’t operate that way).

Put 1 quart of distilled water into a pan with 3 tablespoons of freshly ground coffee and bring to a boil. Let it continue to boil for five minutes then turn the pan off and allow the mixture to cool to body temperature (98°) or lower. Never attempt to do a coffee enema with hot coffee!!! Strain the coffee to remove any large particles but ignore smaller particles, which are OK as they contain some important elements.

Note: Coffee will leak out of you so lying on a hard, easy to clean surface is advisable. Make sure you have plenty of old towels on which to lie.

Hang the enema bag about two feet above you. If you lie on the floor, a coat hanger and a doorknob should facilitate this. Hanging the bag too high will result in too forceful a flow, causing the coffee to travel too far into the colon and resulting in the body’s general circulation taking up the caffeine as if the coffee was ingested by mouth. The same effect can be caused by inserting the enema tube too far into the rectum.

Lube the end of the enema tube. Olive oil or any other kind of food oil will work (we do not recommend petroleum products). Lie down on your right side and insert the enema tube no more than a few inches into the rectum. Release the clamp of the enema tube and let half of the coffee solution (1/2 a quart) flow into the colon. Do not change positions. Retain the coffee enema for 15 minutes (unless an urge to evacuate is too strong). Evacuate the colon and repeat the process one more time with the rest of the coffee solution.

Ideally two separate enema procedures should be done between 4 and 6 hours apart because the first enema causes bile to be dumped into the small intestines, which then needs time to pass into the colon where the second enema can then remove it.
