Children Are At a Lower Risk for Severe Covid-19 than Fully Vaccinated 70-Year-Olds

A New York Times article came under fire for stating that an unvaccinated five-year-old is at less risk for Covid than a vaccinated 70-year-old.

The article was called “insensitive” and “misleading,” with critics saying it underestimated the risks that children are able to spread and catch the virus.

Now, with more data available than before, the author of the article has been proven right. Research shows an unvaccinated 5-year-old is at less risk for serious covid than a vaccinated 70-year-old.

For the elderly, as well as those with serious health conditions getting vaccinated does not reduce the risk of Covid death or hospitalization to near zero, despite what initial vaccine data may have suggested.

Children, however, are at extremely low risk for catching covid and being hospitalized by it.

“For children without a serious medical condition the danger of severe Covid is so low as to be difficult to quantify”

The New York Times

Despite data that shows how low-risk children are, California continues to push for vaccine mandates for school children. Vaccines have just been approved for emergency use in children aged 5-11.

FDA Approves Emergency Authorization of Pfizer Vaccine for Children 5-11

On Friday, October 29th the FDA approved the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine for emergency authorization for children ages 5-11.

The long-term risks to children are not known in an emergency authorization trial.

Children receiving the vaccine will get two shots three weeks apart with a lower dose of the vaccine than those 12 and older.

“We’re never gonna learn about how safe the vaccine is until we start giving it.”

-FDA Voting member

According to Pfizer “long term safety of Covid-19 vaccine in participants, 5-12 years of age will be studied in 5 post-authorization safety studies”

Research has shown that young children are at extremely low risk for severe Covid-19. Unvaccinated children may be at an even lower risk for severe covid than fully vaccinated 70-year-olds.

Keith Olbermann Calls Those are Unvaccinated “Snowflakes”

In a recent social media post, Keith Olbermann called out those who are unvaccinated, calling them “snowflakes” and “scared”. Snowflakes is generally a term used by conservatives to describe “soft”, or “weak” liberals.

Ironically, Olbermann is using this language to insult conservatives when in reality, in his home New York City, 72% of young black people remain unvaccinated.

In addition to young black people, many other groups of people remain hesitant to get the vaccine, including nurses.

People in power continue to try to pit the vaccinated against the unvaccinated as people, both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals continue to suffer from the effects of Covid-19.

Instead of shaming those who are unvaccinated, it may be time to consider why there are still so many people out there who are hesitant or unwilling to get vaccinated.

The Jimmy Dore video below shares clips of Olbermann’s recent social media post, along with additional (hilarious) commentary.

Iceland Says Herd Immunity Must be Reached Through Transmission

Iceland’s chief epidemiologist recently said herd immunity could not be achieved through vaccination. Despite vaccinating 71% of the population Iceland is seeing a spike in cases.

They are seeing a lower hospitalization rate than previous spikes, and have not seen any deaths in their current spike.

Iceland does plan to offer a third booster dose to high-risk/elderly groups.

In a public radio interview, the chief epidemiologist says herd immunity must be achieved through transmission, not vaccination.

He later walked back these comments saying curbing infections is the goal.

Some countries like Isreal are seeing the vaccine wear off after 6-8 months, Iceland, however, vaccinated recently, is still seeing a spike in cases.

Will We See a Surge in Vaccine Mandates Now That the Pfizer Vaccine has been approved?

There’s been a surge in vaccine mandates following the news of the FDA approval of the Covid-19 Pfizer vaccine.

In Israel, the majority of the population (60% including children) are fully vaccinated. Yet we’re still seeing a large number of cases amongst the vaccinated. Around 60% of Israel’s cases are among the vaccinated.

Iceland is recently vaccinated but is currently seeing more cases of covid than they ever have.

In a recent outbreak in Massachusetts, the CDC reports 74% of those infected were vaccinated.

The majority of the data suggests that the vaccine does not stop or slow the spread of the virus.

Vaccine mandates should not be put in place when the vaccine really doesn’t prevent the spread from person to person. If you choose to get vaccinated, in theory, you’re really only protecting yourself.

Additionally, the manufactures of the vaccines are not liable for any adverse reactions caused by the vaccine.

FDA Approves First Covid-19 Vaccine

On August 23rd the FDA approved the Pfizer biotech vaccine. The vaccine is approved for Covid prevention for those 16 and older but is still authorized for emergency use for children 12-15. The vaccine is also authorized for emergency use of a third dose for those who are immunocompromised.

The vaccine was originally authorized for emergency use on December 11th, 2020 for those 16 and older, and was authorized on May 10th, 2021 for children 12 and up.

The FDA’s approval of this vaccine is a milestone as we continue to battle the COVID-19 pandemic. While this and other vaccines have met the FDA’s rigorous, scientific standards for emergency use authorization, as the first FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccine, the public can be very confident that this vaccine meets the high standards for safety, effectiveness, and manufacturing quality the FDA requires of an approved product,” said Acting FDA Commissioner Janet Woodcock, M.D. “While millions of people have already safely received COVID-19 vaccines, we recognize that for some, the FDA approval of a vaccine may now instill additional confidence to get vaccinated. Today’s milestone puts us one step closer to altering the course of this pandemic in the U.S.

Not only have the Covid-19 vaccines been developed faster than any other vaccine, the Pfizer vaccine has been FDA-approved faster than any other vaccine.

Hospital Workers Protest Against Vaccine Mandates

Outside Staten Island University Hospital last week workers were seen protesting the Covid-19 vaccine.

This group of protestors was made up of workers. Nurses, medical technicians, infection control officers, and staff workers made up the protestors.

Protestors were standing with picket signs to denounce pushes for vaccines.

Anti-vaxxers and those who refuse the vaccine have been criminalized by the media and those who are encouraging everyone else to get vaccinated.

If the vaccine is as safe and effective as it claims to be, then why are there so many health care workers who are refusing the vaccine?

Across New York, the majority of the state’s more than 600,000 health care workers are vaccinated, but many are not. To date, 75% of the state’s roughly 450,000 hospital workers, 74% of the state’s 30,000 adult care facility workers and 68% of the state’s 145,500 nursing home workers have been fully vaccinated, the state said.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that all health care workers in New York needed to be vaccinated by September 27th with expectations for those with medical or religious exemptions.
