Interview with The Health Ranger Mike Adams

At age 30, Mike Adams was fifty pounds overweight. He suffered from chronic back pain, depression, high cholesterol, and was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. The son of a Pfizer contractor and a clinical trial tester for some of America’s largest pharmaceutical companies, he had grown up trusting conventional medicine. Extensive research led him to the truth about health: the vast majority of all diseases can easily be prevented and even cured without drugs or surgery. Within months he had cured himself of diabetes and he quickly achieved optimal health. The founder of Natural News.com, The Consumer Wellness Center, Better Life Goods, and Truth Publishing, he is known today as Mike Adams, The Health Ranger.

OLM: Tell me about what’s going on with the FTC and the FDA these days.

Mike Adams: The biggest issue that affects your readership is the irradiation of the food supply. Many people choose organic foods because they want the increased nutritional potency of those foods. Everybody knows that organic fruits and vegetables have more nutrients, more vitamins, more minerals than conventionally grown. But when you irradiate those foods you destroy the delicate phytonutrients and phytochemicals that are responsible for protecting us from chronic degenerative disease. So by irradiating the food supply, the FDA and the USDA are in fact depleting the nutritional potency of the food supply. And on top of that, they don’t want anyone to know the foods are being irradiated. They want to be able to label foods as “pasteurized” if they’ve been irradiated. Louis Pasteur would be rolling in his grave to hear his name was being associated with irradiation of foods. But it’s a symptom of what’s happening in our nation. Even this financial fiasco that is going on is all about just sweeping things under the carpet, misleading consumers, and trying to pretend these problems don’t exist. It’s what the FDA is doing as well as Wall Street.

OLM: How do they irradiate food? Do you know what the process actually is?

Mike Adams: Yes. There’s an irradiation machine. It’s a lot like the conveyor belt at the airport where you put your luggage through. There’s a tunnel and there’s a belt and the food is already packaged so it’s usually already wrapped in plastic. And then it’s just fed through this machine and it simply radiates it for a few seconds with a very high power radiation machine, higher power than what they use at the airport by the way, and then it comes out, and that’s it. It’s been irradiated, and from that point forward it’s been altered. The genes, the DNA of the plant have been altered, and so have the nutritional properties.

OLM: I know they are doing this with spinach. Are they doing it with any other produce?

Mike Adams: Well, they do it with spinach. You’re right. They are considering doing it with green onions, peppers and tomatoes. And it’s only a matter of time. You know how these things go. They will expand this effort to include other veggies. Because, you see, our federal government, in my view, would rather destroy the food supply than to try to make farmers and ranchers more accountable for the cleanliness of their own operations. You see, E. coli contamination of foods is not caused by plants. It’s caused by upstream cattle factories. E. coli doesn’t grow in plants. It only grows in animals. So the contamination of lettuce or tomatoes or anything along those lines with E. coli is really caused by upstream cattle operations. And rather than clean these up they’d rather just irradiate the food supply.

OLM: And my understanding is that the E. coli that can hurt us is actually manmade. The E. coli has to survive acidic conditions and antibiotics before it mutates and becomes dangerous.

Mike Adams: Well yeah, exactly. By Industrial Farming pumping those cattle full of chemicals and pharmaceuticals, they are breeding in, essence, E. coli superbugs. And that is what gets into the food supply when they don’t have clean operations. The problem here is upstream. And again, this is very typical of what is happening in the U.S. today, which is to ignore the root causes of the problems and simply treat the symptoms or try to mask the symptoms in some way.

OLM: Do you know of any E. coli or salmonella outbreaks with organic produce?

Mike Adams: No, I don’t know of any. I’ve heard of some organic almonds being contaminated. But they were all contaminated during the shipping or transportation phase. Organic almonds are never contaminated at the source. It’s only distributions, shipping, that kind of thing, because they don’t clean the containers. You know, the big trucks. They might ship some other contaminated food first and then they don’t wash it out properly and then the almonds get contaminated.

OLM: And what they are doing with spinach they might be doing with organic spinach, as well as conventional, right? There’s no rule that says they can’t irradiate organic spinach, correct?

Mike Adams: Well, I think there is a rule that you can’t label it organic if it’s been irradiated but I’m not actually sure about that. I’d have to check on that. Regardless, what’s happening is a trend towards irradiation of more foods and a weakening of the definition of organic. And that’s where institutions like the Cornucopia Institute, which I consider to be good friends and good allies, are working very, very hard to protect the integrity of the word organic, the definition of organic.

OLM: I’ve just recently looked at their website pretty extensively and I am pretty pleased with them. I just found out about them from… I think it was one of your emails.

Mike Adams:They represent small farms all over the country. That’s their constituency, so to speak. They are trying to protect those small farms and doing so requires the protection of the definition of organic. Because if you can let big business come in and put chemicals on the crops and chemicals in the animals and then still call it organic then, of course, the small farmers can’t compete.

OLM: It seems that they are what the FDA should be.

Mike Adams: Yeah. Yeah. (Laughing wryly) It’s very clear that the FDA and the FTC and even the USDA no longer work to protect the people, not by any wild stretch of the imagination. They work to protect the interests of the corporations that control this country. The people are protected only by the non-profits. It’s organizations like the Cornucopia Institute that are suing the USDA  or organizations like the Organic Consumers Association, which  I also support , that are suing the so called organic deputy operations. These non-profits are doing the job that the regulators should have been doing but are refusing to do.

OLM: Yeah, and you know a lot of people have a really hard time swallowing the idea that there are people in Congress, the FDA, and the FTC who want us to be sick.  But it does seem like that’s what they’re doing. That’s certainly the end result.

Mike Adams: It’s a well known phenomenon that every regulatory agency eventually becomes the marketing branch of the very industry it’s supposed to regulate and the reason is because all the people working at the FDA, or most, used to work in the industries they regulate. And the people who leave the FDA go to work at those companies. So it’s a revolving door policy is what it’s called. So it’s all the same people and they’re just pretending to be on two sides of the fence when in fact they are all working in the same direction which is more drugs, more power, more profits for the corporations.

Now none of these people actually want Americans to be sick. They don’t fall asleep at night dreaming of a nation full of sick, diseased people.  However, they are willing to look the other way while this happens.  We’ve seen the lack of integrity in Western culture where people are willing do anything to make money. We saw it with Enron. We’re seeing it right now with the big financial fallout on Wall Street where people are walking away with billions of dollars in profits while causing taxpayers to foot the bill for all the debt and fraud that they created. People in positions of power will almost always compromise the safety or the health of the public if it means more money or more power for themselves. And that’s just a basic human law.  People are inherently selfish. And there are some individuals who have high spirituality, who have learned ethics, who can overcome that basic human nature of selfishness. I think you and I are certainly among those people; however, we are in the minority. Most people think about themselves and their own financial gains, and that’s it.

OLM: The FTC is suing companies that are trying to help people, companies that say they can cure cancer or companies that say they can treat or cure disease. Can you tell us a little bit more about that?

Mike Adams: The FTC is joining the FDA in running what I call a campaign of terrorism and oppression against companies offering legitimate cancer solutions. There are many, many anti-cancer plants and herbs and natural medicines that exist. And this is widely acknowledged everywhere in the world except in the United States.  The FTC has now taken it upon itself to insist there is no such thing as an anti-cancer nutrient and anyone who says there is, is automatically guilty of a serious crime.  And they are now suing and threatening prison time and threatening bankruptcies to these companies that offer legitimate scientifically validated anti-cancer solutions. This is being done, of course, to protect the highly corrupt, fraudulent cancer industry that depends on the continuation of cancer in the population in order to stay in business. The truth is we could cure 90% of cancer right now, using what we know right now.

OLM: And the 10% we can’t cure are just people who are so far gone.

Mike Adams: Right. Those would be the 10% who got chemotherapy, who suffered freakish radiation events or things like that, that are just very, very difficult to reverse.  But 90% with confidence, we can reverse. And certainly we can easily prevent 98% of all cancers. We could live in a world without cancer. But the cancer industry absolutely does not want to see that happen.

OLM: Well, cancer, diabetes, chronic fatigue syndrome, anything that requires continued care, is just too profitable.

Mike Adams: That’s it. And realize a full quarter of our national economy is now invested in the business of disease and sickness care. What are you going to do? Give the cures to the population? Then you will have a 25% unemployment rate. You’ll have trillions of dollars in losses, because there’s been so much investment in hospitals and clinics and oncology centers and medical schools and all of these things that are based on people staying sick and diseased. Sothey don’t want the population to be free of cancer. It would cause too much economic devastation.

OLM: Speaking of that, I think it was in one of your newsletters I read that talks about where our taxpayer dollars go. And a big chunck of that is health, or lack thereof.

Mike Adams:  Yes. The three biggest areas where our tax dollars go right now, and I believe it’s 96% of our tax dollars—that’s war, disease, and debt. If you just go look at the numbers, that’s what it’s paying for. War, which they call security. Disease, which they call health care. And debt which is just interest payments on the national debt, which is now, as of the recent financial situation, 10 trillion dollars.

OLM: And you know not one of these three could really last forever. I just don’t see how a country can spend the majority of its money on any one of these three and be profitable forever. It sounds like a house of cards.

counterthinkMike Adams: It’s absolutely a house of cards. And its ultimate outcome is not in doubt by anyone who can do math. That is the complete—the complete collapse of the United States government and a re-booting of the global economy. The USA as we know it today will not exist in a few more years. It cannot. It is mathematically impossible. Even if you could pay off all the debt. If aliens showed up with money, just paid off the debt of everybody in the world, you still have a nation that’s diseased. And you have a generation of children who are diseased and are being raised on junk food, and pharmaceuticals, and vaccines, and toxic chemicals but not getting sunlight and not getting nutrition. You don’t have a future. No nation has a future if the health of its children is compromised. So the future for the United States of America looks very, very bleak in my opinion. And it may be several generations before people learn these hard lessons and realize that if you want to have an abundant future you must invest in health rather than investing in disease.

Green Halloween

Halloween has been totally hijacked by ecologically damaging consumerism. From the expensive shop-bought costumes made from petroleum based materials and the plastic pumpkins to the chemical-laden sweets and the toxic face paints, we spend our money on things that damage our children’s health and our planet. I know, so far I sound like a party pooper. But with a little thought, you can have a Halloween that doesn’t cost the earth, your health, or your pocket. And you’ll have a lot more fun.

Fabulously freaky costumes can be created from clothing found at thrift stores or the back of your wardrobe. Is there an old sheet dying to be a ghost? A dark shawl? A black paper hat and a branch saved from the bonfire would make a fine witch. With a few ribbons, some feathers, safety pins, or even recycled tin foil, you and your children are all set for a creative afternoon’s work! You will feed their imaginations, and their sense of achievement will far exceed any “perfect” off-the-peg creation.

Use cardboard from old boxes, paint, and decorations to make masks. If you choose to use face paint, there are some lovely natural, plant-based versions on the market. Try Lyra face paints, which come in pencil, crayon, or paint.

Next comes the Halloween centre piece: the pumpkin. Think of how many fields were devoted to growing pumpkins this year, most of them sprayed with pesticides. An organic pumpkin, especially at this time of year, will barely cost you more. Not only will your choice make a statement to the growers, you’ll have all the scrapings from inside your pumpkin for a yummy meal after trick-or -treating.

For a quick delicious soup, just add water, milk, and nutmeg to the pulp. Heat and blend. Even the seeds are great roasted with some Eco-friendly Costume soy sauce or salt. Younger children love to rinse the slimy seeds in a colander. You could even create a longer-term project with the kids by saving a handful of seeds, drying them in paper bag in a warm dry place, and planting them in the spring for next year.

Conventional pumpkins will probably be hybrids, with seeds that won’t reproduce properly if they grow at all.

Halloween was originally a festival to mark the end of the growing season and the beginning of the dark, ‘dead’ months ahead. So surround yourself with the last of the year’s bright outdoor colours! To decorate your house, take a walk in the woods. Fallen tree boughs, moss, bright fall leaves, and apples will look wonderful. So will paper garlands cut in ghoulish shapes, made from paper scraps you have saved.

You can even cut your electric costs for the night by turning off the lights and filling the room with candles. Choose deliciously scented beeswax candles rather than petroleum-based ones. Just keep them safe from the children and all those lovingly-made paper garlands!

Last but certainly not least, come the candies and treats. Most of today’s Halloween candy comes heavily packaged. Some of it is made with genetically modified foods, and most of it is full of artificial colours, flavorings, and preservatives. But there are plenty of great alternatives nowadays, available in natural food supermarkets or online. My favorite is Yummy Earth’s organic candies, which come in so many fantastic, natural flavors. You could also try your hand at homemade candy apples for some sticky fun. Roasted nuts are a great

Living an Organic Lifestyle – Letter From the Editor

I don’t live a perfect organic lifestyle. I don’t always eat exactly what I should. I miss workouts. Sometimes I drink alcohol, though I don’t believe even one glass of red wine is good for me. But I am careful with my health. I never get sick. Not at all. I don’t have allergies. And while I’m not in perfect condition, I do balance out my poor health choices with good ones.

A lot of people get so focused on one thing, they get stuck and miss the big picture. Even health care practitioners are guilty of this. One feels that the most important thing is to make sure your body is slightly alkaline. Another says that if you cut out all of the refined sugar in your diet all of your health problems will be solved. Yet another is only concerned with essential fatty acids. This isn’t a balanced outlook on health.

On the other hand, you could get radical. You could move out of the toxic box we all call home and build an eco-friendly toxin free house in the country. You could breathe clean air and (if you’re lucky) drink clean water. You could avoid all plastics, synthetics, chemicals, and fragrances. You could grow all of your own food.

Or you can do your best to live a balanced lifestyle, learn the truth about health, and be healthier than anyone you know.

You can rid your body of allergies, disease, aches and pains, and most other ailments. You can clear your head. You can increase your energy. You could learn how to eat perfectly and try each day to meet that goal. You could be balanced. Even if you aren’t perfect, you could achieve a level of health our modern medical profession thinks to be impossible.

OLM may appear to be a radical magazine to some, but it’s not. Although I believe in everything OLM says about health, as I said, I don’t live a perfect organic lifestyle. I don’t know how far I will take it, but I make healthier choices each day. I am healthy, happy, and full of energy.

What are your goals? Do you want to improve the quality of your life? Do you want to live to be 100 or more without aches, pains, or disease? It’s possible—challenging in today’s modern society, but it can be done.

A diet consisting of 80% raw fresh fruits and vegetables (or more) may seem unusual, but it’s really just a basic foundation for health. Making sure your diet is alkaline, rich in the right balance of essential fatty acids, and low in toxins is much easier when you focus on raw, fresh, organic produce.

You have to find what works for and your lifestyle. Learn everything you can, radical or not. Knowledge is power, and your health will always be your responsibility—no one else’s.

I can promise you that each step you take on the path to an organic lifestyle will improve your health. Identify your goals. Incorporate what you can. But above all, find your balance.

Sincerely,

Addicted to Soda

I know a couple who buys only organic meat. Most of their processed food, like energy bars, is organic. They made the decision to start buying organic food years ago, and yet they still drink soda every day! That’s like a crack addict trying to cut down on smoking. I just want to yell at them, “Save your money! Buy the cheap meat. Buy the frosted flakes and the power bars. Cut out the soda!”

There are 10 to 12 teaspoons of sugar in one can of cola! People who drink soda are destroying their bodies’ ability to properly utilize the nutrition they are trying to get from their organic foods. If you want to improve your health, the first step is to cut out the refi ned sugars like high fructose corn syrup and white table sugar. The next step is to eat more raw fruits and vegetables. The third step is to get a proper multivitamin/ mineral that is easily assimilated. I’m sorry to say that buying organic is not at the top of the list.

I know this is Organic Lifestyle Magazine. It may sound as though I am telling people to stop buying organic foods. I’m not. I’m saying that if you care about the environment, you have every reason to buy organic foods. If you care about fair treatment of animals, you should certainly buy organic meat. But the people I am specifically speaking of are pharmaceutically dependent soda junkies, and I just have to wonder why. They don’t get it. The only reason they are buying organic foods is for their health. And they just can’t figure out why they’re spending so much money at the grocery store and not getting any better. They say they may not be able to keep buying organic if gas prices continue to go up. This couple is even trying to conceive a child, and they can’t figure out why she can’t get pregnant!

Health is so simple, yet we have convoluted it and perverted it and allowed ourselves to be brainwashed. Eat what we ate before cancer, diabetes, ADHD, and auto-immune diseases were rampant. Eat what we ate before we had a food industry bombarding us with commercials. Eat fresh, raw fruits and veggies!

If you are trying to improve your health, you need to start thinking for yourself. Quit believing everything you hear from a company that is trying to sell you something. I see so many people who have decided to follow the advice of a study that says coff ee is good for them, because they’re addicted to coff ee. If I were to show them a study that says coffee is bad for them, they would dismiss it. This isn’t education, it’s self delusion.

Simplify things. Think for yourself. Eat more raw fruits and vegetables. Eat fewer refi ned and processed foods. You will notice a diff erence, not just with your health, but in your pocketbook, too.

10 Easy Things You Can Do to Get Better Gas Mileage

Trade in your car for a moped; and take public transportation whenever possible. Better yet, get a bicycle! Car pool to work and walk everywhere else. When you do need to drive, following ten tips can save you gas, and money.

KEEP YOUR ENGINE TUNED UP

Dirty filters, old fluids, and worn belts can cause a vehicle to work harder, using more fuel. But a proper tune up is more than just changing the oil and replacing the air filter. Incorrect fuel ratio, worn spark plugs, and inaccurate spark timing can have a big effect on gas mileage.

2. CHECK YOUR TIRES

Under-inflated tires cause more rolling resistance. Overinflated tires have much less friction and will give you better gas mileage but will reduce your traction and braking power.

3. PLAN YOUR TRIPS

If you need to go to more than one place, know the best route to avoid traffic and save time. Know when to go and consolidate trips whenever possible.

4. REDUCE YOUR VEHICLE WEIGHT

Take the golf clubs out of your trunk. Don’t leave things in your car that don’t need to be there. The more weight the car has to move, the more fuel it needs.

5. USE CRUISE CONTROL ON LEVEL ROADS

But do not use cruise control when you can do a better job yourself. On level surfaces your vehicle will maintain a consistent speed, which is better than speeding up then slowing down, which most of us do. Don’t use cruise control on hills. It will slow your speed coming down the other side and you’ll loose the natural momentum you would have gained to climb the next hill.

6. TURN OFF YOUR A/C

Air conditioners use a lot of energy. At low speeds and in stop-and-go traffic, turn off the A/C and roll down the windows if you can stand the heat.

7. TURN ON YOUR A/C

If you are traveling at freeway speeds it’s better to turn on your air conditioner and roll up your windows. Open windows create a lot of drag, dramatically increasing your wind resistance.

8. KEEP YOUR HIGHWAY SPEED AT 55 MPH.

Drive 55 instead of 75. It can improve you gas mileage by as much as 25%.

9. USE THE HIGHEST GEAR YOU CAN

If you are driving an automatic, put it in overdrive. If driving a stick, put it in a higher gear and keep your RPMs low. The higher the RPMs, the more fuel you will use.

10. CHECK YOUR MILEAGE

When you’ve done what you can to improve your mileage, check to see what it is. Fill up your tank. Reset your trip counter and drive conservatively. Fill up your tank again. Now divide the miles you drove by the gallons of gas required to refill your tank. This is your MPG. Now compare with what other cars of the same year, make and model are getting. If you’re way off, you may need to have a mechanic look to see if there is anything wrong.

Brainwashed – Letter From the Editor

The truth is electric engines are a much better alternative to replace the combustion engine than hydrogen fuel cells. The truth is war is incredibly profitable to the powers that make decisions about whether or not we go to war.

The truth is all of the studies that show global warming to be a hoax are well funded by the companies who benefit from those results. The truth is whether global warming exists or doesn’t exist is not the only issue. We are the stewards of our planet. Protecting our planet and caring for our fellow creatures that inhabit it benefits us in many other ways.

The truth is, to a large extent, major corporations control our government. The truth is hemp could be an incredible source of paper, food, and textiles for us while benefitting our soil and our environment.

The truth is that antibiotics and antibacterial products are doing much more damage to our bodies and to our environment than the bacteria that we fear. The truth is that we need bacteria to survive. The truth is that E-coli and salmonella would not plague us if it weren’t for our grotesque farming practices. The truth is that pasteurization of our food is very bad for us.

The truth is that almost all medications are unnecessary if one leads a healthy lifestyle. The truth is that conventional farming and agriculture are stripping the nutrients from our food while poisoning our bodies and our environment. The truth is that there is a simple cure for cancer, diabetes, and for the many new diseases that did not exist until fairly recently. The truth is that in this country, “the land of the free,” doctors who practice natural medicine are going to jail for curing diseases without the use of conventional medicine.

The truth is that we are brainwashed.

Big business is designed to realize short term, not long term profits. While it can be very profitable to go green or to promote health in the long run, the change requires a massive initial investment and a major shift in perception. Big business is all about returns. Stockholders want profits and they want them now. Profits drive business.

But I see that times are changing. People are waking up. Big business knows that if it doesn’t start making changes, consumers will take their business elsewhere. The truth is most of the large corporations would rather convince us that they’ve changed or that they are changing while they keep doing things their way.

We, as consumers, need to start educating ourselves. We need to vote with our pocketbooks. We need to speak out. Anyone who thinks pasteurization of foods is beneficial is brainwashed. Anyone who thinks the word “refined” on food packaging to be a good thing is brainwashed. Anyone who thinks every visit to the doctor should result in a prescription for antibiotics is brainwashed.

It is challenging to re-educate ourselves. We are bombarded with so much misinformation. When someone asks me questions about health, I often think that my answers are just plain common sense. But as they say, common sense is uncommon, especially when there are so many people who stand to profit from uneducated consumers.

What would you do if you just invested 168 million dollars in a new drug to treat cancer and someone told you that a simple change in diet would eradicate cancer cells? Would you even consider the possibility? If you’re like most people you’d convince yourself it wasn’t possible. But if you did recognize the truth, would you risk that investment? Would you do the right thing?

I’m not saying that all the people in charge of big businesses knowingly hurt us or our planet. I’m not a conspiracy theorist. While many of them knowingly do harmful things for a profit, I believe the majority chooses to remain oblivious, just like the general population.

The truth is times are changing. It’s time to wake up. We’re at a turning point. Let’s be sure we take this opportunity to make things change for the better.
