The toxicity in your Botox

If you’ve noticed an increase in the number of women on social media undergoing cosmetic procedures over the last few years, you’re not alone, and you’re not crazy. 

While social media can make it appear as though “everyone” is doing something, when really only a small number of people are doing something, this is not necessarily the case for these cosmetic procedures. Around 15.8 million “injectable procedures” were performed last year. Neuromodulators were up 9% from last year (2023). Neuromodulators include botox and dysport. Botox refers to the brand name of the neuromodulator. These chemicals act as disrupters between nerves and muscles, relaxing the muscles and reducing the appearance of wrinkles. Neuromodulators are different from fillers, which are injectables that increase plumpness is certain areas, often the lips and cheeks. Both Hyaluronic and non Hyaluronic fillers saw an 8% increase from 2023. 

Now perhaps the craziest thing about this large increase in cosmetic procedures is that the demographic who saw the largest increase in botox were women aged 20-40. Traditionally, women over the age of 40 make up the largest demographic for these cosmetic procedures, and this is still true, however women aged 20-39 saw an 8% increase in these cosmetic procedures. Typically these procedures for young women are called “baby botox” which is preventive botox. It’s been said that starting botox at such a young age can cause the muscles to atrophy, and can cause botox resistance. Young women also saw the largest increase in hyaluronic fillers, with a 9% increase, while older women are beginning to turn to non-hyaluronic fillers. 

Fillers began rising in popularity, really coming onto the scene in 2016 after the launch of the Kylie Jenner lip kit where The Kardashian family began to promote unrealistic beauty standards that could really only be achieved through cosmetic procedures. 

Lip fillers are just that- a filler injected into your lips to make them look larger, and more plump. Women partake in these procedures every couple of months to maintain plumpness in their lips, under the assumption that the lip fillers dissolve and go away after a certain amount of time. 

However, hyaluronic fillers are like a sponge in water that can expand over time making the unit of filler in your face actually expand. It’s been 20 years since the FDA first approved filler injections and we know more now than we did then. The fact that they can expand and stay in your face for years as opposed to the originally thought 6-12 months, is relatively new information for a lot of people. 

Medical experts claim there are no health risks or long term issues associated with fillers, in fact most doctors claim that the fillers will just completely dissolve after enough time however the reality is that we don’t know the long term health effects of fillers because they haven’t been around long enough for us to study the long term health effects. 

While fillers and botox will likely continue to rise in popularity as long as aging is seen a flaw it seems some people are beginning to wake up to the reality of the health consequences that come along with these procedures.

Recently several videos went viral after the contestants on the recent season of Love Island were revealed to all be in their 20s. These women, who look more like bratz dolls than real people, clearly had so much work done that they not only appear plastic and doll like, they appeared to be well into their 40s, not their mid 20s.

Over the last few months Brett Cooper has released a series of videos talking about fillers and botox. What they’re doing to women’s (and mens) faces, the health consequences and how the trends are changing. Over the last 10 years this increase has been steady and rapid. The questions is why? 

One of the interesting theories as to why this could be points to another recent trend on the up and up: Ozempic and other weight loss drugs. Some researchers suggest that the recent increase in fillers and botox is caused by the rapid uptick in weight loss drug usage, as rapid weight loss can cause the appearance of hollowness and saggy skin or “ozempic face” as they call it. 

While other women will point to the “patriarchy” and blame men for setting this unbelievably unattainable beauty standards, I think the reality is more complex than that. Men did not set the beauty standards for women, in fact, men often find the trends and expectations that women set for themselves to be ridiculous, if they even bother to pay attention. If you ask the average man what he thinks is attractive, many of them will say they just want healthy, normal looking women. I think the increase in cosmetic procedures is yet another way for the pharmaceutical industry to push itself on us in an effort to make everyone more reliant on doctors and the system, and less in tune with their own health.

Regardless of the reason, it’s all crazy to witness from an outside perspective because anyone who hasn’t been completely brainwashed can see that these young women who get these cosmetic procedures done do not look good. In fact, they look terrifying, and despite what many doctors say, these fillers do not go away. Unfortunately many women are waking up to the harsh reality too late.

We have celebrities in their 50s who were once prized for their looks in their 20s and 30s and now as they push 50 and 60 they return to the red carpet looking like a disfigured porcelain doll of their former selves. They no longer even look like human beings.

The sinister depths of the beauty industry go down quite far. Injecting chemicals into the skin of youthful 20-something women is one thing, but what about the hidden ingredients in your facials and beauty products that not everyone knows about? 

Recently on social media I came across a video of Sandra bullock talking about the ingredients in the micro needling facial given to her by her dermatologist, along with clips from other celebrities. 

The skin cells in baby foreskins are said to be an active ingredient in micro needling. Apparently there are other facial serums that use this as an active ingredient. 

While it may seem obvious to someone in the holistic health sphere, these toxic (and in some cases, disturbing) ingredients that you’re injecting into your face are not just unsafe- their long term effects are unknown. They haven’t even been around long enough for us to study the lasting long term effects. Don’t be so quick to believe the narrative that the doctors, and companies who produce these products, paint. It wouldn’t be the first time the medical establishment has lied to us. 

Why are we putting toxic additives in products we put on our skin, why are we so obsessed with mainiting this almost unattainable level of beauty and youthfulness.

I think what’s really going on here is that as a society, we tend to view health and vitality as defining characteristics for what we find attractive, because these things symbolize fertility, and we are naturally designed to chase fertility so we can reproduce (like or not, this is biology). 

That doesn’t mean two things can’t be true at once. That doesn’t mean women suddenly hit menopause and become unattractive . Health is an attractive quality that will last you decades. If you prioritize your health from the inside out you will look and feel great for many years to come. 

So maybe you’re wondering what the solution to maintaining your youth is if it’s not injecting yourself with toxins. The answer is simple, although maybe not what everyone would hope for. It’s not a particular regime of holistic beauty practices. The age old saying “beauty comes from within” has never been truer. 

Prioritize your health. Prioritize a clean Whole Foods diet, drink enough water, don’t smoke, avoid chemicals on your skin and the rest will take care of itself.

Aging gracefully naturally is not complicated. It is however, alarming the rate at which women are rejecting natural aging and turning to medical procedures to stop or reverse it. It feels a bit like selling your soul to the devil in exchange for eternal youth. We all age eventually, so why not embrace it.

What is Deep Tissue Repair Oil

Deep tissue repair oil is one of the most helpful formulas in my arsenal of supplements and tinctures. I use it almost daily for a mired of different things. Primarily, as the name suggests, deep tissue repair oil is used for deep tissue injuries. You can apply deep tissue to any sore muscle, ache, pain, bruise or internal injury that you may be dealing with. I haven’t discovered anything that works as well as this. You can also use it on external inflammation, I like to use it on red spots and zits whenever they may occur, and this oil can drastically reduce the appearance of redness very quickly. You can also apply small amounts to your temples to help with headaches. 

When I was training jiujitsu during covid I broke or bruised a rib (never went to the doctor to confirm which, what good is a doctor for a broken rib anyway). I could barely move and could hardly sleep at night. Recovery was not easy but with persistent application of deep tissue oil, as well as alternating a hot and cold compress, I was back on the mats within 3 weeks. I applied deep tissue oil before each training session and could hardly feel my injury as I finished up healing. Deep tissue oil continued to be a saving grace for me during training throughout the years.

I’ve shared this product with many friends and family and they all continue to use it to this day. Deep tissue is full of anti inflammatory and naturally healing properties. Below I break down the ingredients and what they’re used for. 

Jojoba oil is an oil that is beneficial for skin, hair, and nails. It has properties to help with sunburns and is good for moisturizing skin. It has general nourishing properties for the skin, hair, and nails but in this particular blend it works largely as a neutral carrier oil for other ingredients and to help aid in moisturizing the skin. 

Arnica is a flower, in this formula we infuse arnica into the oil we use. Arnica has many anti-inflammatory properties. It can aid in healing bruises, sprains, muscle aches, wounds such as cuts and scratches, and can soothe bug bites, swelling from broken bones, and burns. 

Calendula has anti inflammatory properties and is great for rashes, it is also anti fungal and antimicrobial making it great for aiding in the relief of wounds. 

Comfry leaf is similar to Arnica flower in its anti inflammatory properties however it can be toxic if taken orally in large doses. Comfry can help repair skin cells making it a powerful aid in treating burns, wounds, and joint inflammation like sprains.  

Wintergreen oil has cooling properties that can aid in healing muscle inflammation, aches and pains and swelling caused by injury. It can also help with headaches, alleviate muscle pain, joint pain arthritis, lumbago, and bursitis

Similar to wintergreen oil, menthol crystals having cooling properties that provide relief to different kinds of inflammation based aches and pains. It can be used for cold and flu relief as well as sprains, bruises etc. 

Both wintergreen and menthol crystals are also said to have anti microbial properties. 

Cayenne pepper has pain relief properties when applied topically. The heat generated from cayenne can help numb the area it’s applied to, and it also helps improve blood circulation.

Ginger root can promote blood flow and increased circulation making it great for aiding in the healing properties of this tincture. It also said to help reduce scarring, and has anti-inflammatory properties.

Olive oil moisturizing and acts as a good carrier oil for the other ingredients in this tincture, as well as helping to regrow skin sells.

While this tincture has some aggressive ingredients such as cayenne and menthol, it can be helpful for aiding in wounds and burns, but not the most pain free for topical wounds. Juice

The sugar within a whole apple will not feed pathogenic gut flora or spike most people’s blood sugar when eaten as an apple. Apple juice, on the other hand, is a refined sugar. Juicing removes fruit sugar from its natural state, which is inside the fruit, surrounded and bound with fiber. If the juice gets hot enough the enzymes are getting destroyed too.

How to Juice For Health

Use a slow juicer to preserve enzymes and other delicate nutrients. Drink immediately; don’t store it. Use vegetables and herbs. This will not be that refreshing burst of sweetness fruit juicers are accustomed to.  Spinach, lettuces and other lighter leafy greens make for a pretty easy transition. Kale, cabbage, and collards can be difficult to work with (or drink) depending on the juicer and their palate. Try adding them in slowly. Personally, I cannot make collard work to save my life, but I’ve grown accustomed to kale and spinach.

Cayenne, turmeric, garlic, ginger, and cinnamon are a healthy juicer’s best friend. The herbal antimicrobial properties and some other factors help balance out the effects of the sugars from juicing.

Wheat

The food pyramid is not our friend. Meat and grain industries have influenced dietary regulations for decades. How a food pyramid is done right depends on whether one is vegan, a raw foodist, or an omnivore, but the commonality is raw vegetables as the base for a balanced diet.

Grain has been consumed for thousands of years, but modern wheat is making people sick. There are a few likely reasons for this, including genetic engineering through hybridization (not to be confused with GMOs), glyphosates, unnatural harvesting practices, and the way we handle the modern processing that make the food products. Many who cannot consume wheat are able to eat spelt, Kamut, Einkorn, and some other ancient grains that contain gluten, but anyone with severe gluten issues would be wise to stay away from all wheat and gluten until the gut is balanced and healed.

A proper food pyramid would have raw herbs and vegetables as the most important items, with cooked vegetables and herbs being shown as the second most beneficial, with fruit following close behind. Meat and grains are not necessarily bad for you, but they don’t do nearly as much to heal the body (unless you’re severely deficient in nutrition). Cooked vegetables, meats, and grains have many benefits and can help sustain and build our body, but raw fresh produce and herbs produce the best ecosystem in our gut which equates to a healthy body.

Gluten-Free Grains and Grain Substitutions

  • Amaranth is an ancient grain that is very easy to absorb and assimilate and is rich in protein, as well as calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium. It’s also the only grain that has been documented to contain vitamin C.
  • Buckwheat is technically not a grain; this fruit seed is related to rhubarb and sorrel. It’s a good source of antioxidants, fiber, manganese, magnesium, and tryptophan.
  • Corn can be problematic for those dealing with inflammation, but it’s a much better choice than wheat for anyone who’s not feeling their best. Corn is a good source of vitamins B1, B5 (pantothenic acid), and C; folate; and phosphorus.
  • Millet, “with its many nutrients, has been shown to support the cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and respiratory systems. It has the potential to protect against diabetes and cancer.” – Click to read more about millet here
  • Montina is flour milled from Indian ricegrass (which is not to traditional rice). It’s rich in protein, carbohydrates, and fiber and is typically used as an additive to primary gluten-free flours.
  • Quinoa is an ancient grain that’s very popular right now. It’s often is used in place of traditional starches, such as pasta, rice, couscous, and cereals. Quinoa is rich in amino acids, manganese, magnesium, iron, copper, and phosphorous.
  • Rice. But not white rice. Brown rice contains the bran and germ portion of the kernel and is higher in fiber and other nutrients. Rice is rich in B vitamins, calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorous, potassium, and zinc. Rice flour is commonly used for baking with gluten-free products.
  • Sorghum is an ancient millet like cereal grain that’s used in baking.
  • Teff is an ancient grain that is similar in size to poppy seeds. Teff has a nutty, molasses like flavor is somewhat mucilaginous. It’s can be eaten uncooked, as a cooked grain, or ground and added as part of the flour used in recipes. Teff is rich contains all eight indispensable amino acids, and it’s chock-full of thiamin and contains significant amounts of the minerals phosphorus, magnesium, aluminum, iron, copper, zinc, boron, and barium.
  • Wild rice is an aquatic cereal grain that grows wild in isolated lakes and riverbeds in the cold regions of North America. It contains protein, phosphorous, potassium, and magnesium and the B vitamins thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, and folic acid.

And of course, there are also beans and lentils for gluten free meals. Did I miss any? Comment!

Should I Be Soaking My Grains?

Phytic acid is an enzyme inhibitor of concern for many. Studies on phytic acid reveal that the phytic acid in whole grain can block calcium, zinc, magnesium, iron and copper absorption. It doesn’t happen with everyone; some seem immune to these adverse consequences because of a favorable ecosystem of gut flora. In addition, when animal fats that provide vitamins A and D accompany whole grains the effects of phytic acid are lessened.

Despite its potential drawbacks, phytic acid is similar in some ways to a vitamin, and metabolites of phytic acid may have secondary messenger roles in cells.” – All About Phytates Phytic Acid

For those with healthy gut flora, it’s probably not necessary to soak grains before cooking. For anyone suffering health issues, soaking grains and grain flours in an acid medium at very warm temperatures reduces or even eliminates phytic acid. I don’t generally soak grains or grain like products. I also tend to eat grains with raw herbs and vegetables, and I eat more vegetables in a day than I do grains. If you consume lots of grains you may do better with soaking them first.

I do soak legumes and I typically soak most nuts and seeds. I sprout them if I can.

Nuts

Nuts and seeds have enzyme inhibitors, including but not limited to just phytic acid. That’s why they last so long. Nuts and seeds will not break down into their simplest forms during digestion when their enzyme inhibitors are present.

Our pancreas produces our enzymes. Enzymes cause chemical reactions in the body. Enzymes break things down. Enzymes break down food, clots in the blood, they remove waste, break down fibrin, break down proteins and other food components to allow assimilation of nutrients, destroy foreign proteins, destroy viruses, and they are necessary for all bodily functions. Without enzymes we’re dead. Not having enough enzymes will equate to a stroke, heart attack, or some other catastrophic failure very soon.

Our pancreas only produces a finite amount or enzymes. Enzyme inhibitors are hard on the pancreas. Our modern diets are as a whole are very unfriendly to our pancreas. Chemicals that don’t breakdown, food that can’t be properly, fully digested for any reason, and to a lesser but still significant extent, any food that is void of enzymes put a burden on the pancreas. Think of the pancreas as the clock that our life is counting down from. If everything else is as healthy as it can be, the pancreas will still, eventually, stop producing enzymes no matter what else we do. We know that the quality of food can impact our DNA degradation, and enzymes are the other big piece of the longevity puzzle.

The more enzymes we get from our food, the longer our body will be able to produce our own enzymes, the longer we live.

Heat destroys enzymes. Pasteurized nuts are unlikely to sprout. The few that do still have some enzymes, but most do not.

Nuts, seeds, and legumes have natural enzyme inhibitors. Some are worse for us to consume than others, but all enzyme inhibitors inhibit certain enzymes from working. This is great for nuts and seeds so that they can be stored for years without breaking down, but these enzyme inhibitors disrupt our body’s functions.

How To Do Seeds Right

Pumpkin seeds, almonds, hazelnuts, hemp seeds, pecans, walnuts and a few of other nuts and seeds are chock full of enzymes while in their raw, natural forms. Provided they are raw, chewing them well enough can mix the enzymes with the inhibitors, effectively canceling each other out, but soaking and sprouting these nuts and seeds will remove the inhibitors, turning the nuts into enzyme rich, life-giving superfoods. Other nuts, and many legumes, really should be soaked and sprouted due to the nature of their enzyme inhibitors. There’s no need to sprout flax or chia seeds.

Enzyme supplements can also help to properly digest nuts and seeds, and eating them with raw vegetables can provide extra enzymes for digestion too.

Cooking can destroy many enzyme inhibitors but does not destroy all of them. Ideally, cooked nuts and seeds should be sprouted first.

Soaking and Sprouting Nuts and Seeds

I use warm filtered water and a pinch of sea salt. The warm water will neutralize many of the enzyme inhibitors, but not all of them. I dump the water half way into it, refill, and then dump and rinse well before use. The salt also helps to activate some of the enzymes that deactivate the enzyme inhibitors.

I soak for 12-24 hours, depending on the nut or seed.

What You Need

  • 2-3 cups of raw, organic nuts or seeds (I don’t mix them, one kind per container)
  • 3-4 cups of warm water (cover nuts +15% for expansion)
  • 1 tablespoon of salt

Instructions

  1. Place the warm water in a medium bowl or jar that accommodates 2 liters or more
  2. Add salt
  3. Add the nuts or seeds
  4. Leave uncovered overnight.
  5. If you’re not sprouting, it’s time to dehydrate them. If I’m sprouting, at this point I soak them for one more round, another 8 hours or so, and then I lay them out on a towel and leave them overnight, damp. Wait until you see sprouting, and then you dehydrate the nuts or seeds.

There are preferred individual soaking times, but I just tend to go by size. Bigger nuts get a little more water time.

Sprouting goes a step further reducing the levels of enzyme inhibitors and unlocking other nutritional benefits, even more. But not all seeds sprout. Pine nuts, macadamias, pecans, and walnuts will not sprout, at least in my experience. Don’t even bother with soaking flax or sesame seeds. I like to sprout pumpkin, sunflower, almonds, broccoli, alfalfa, and clover. I can’t get brazil nuts to sprout, but I always treat them as if I could. Judging by the chia pet, it would seem you could soak and sprout chia seeds.

If you give a squirrel a raw nut, it will always bury it. The squirrel will only dig it up when the nut has sprouted. They have found sensors in squirrels’ noses that can identify a sprouted nut. Raw, unsprouted nuts have digestive enzyme inhibitors that prevent animals from digesting it easily. Only when it sprouts are these inhibitors deactivated. Smart squirrels!” – Diana Herrington

Beans, Legumes

Apparently, our ancestors understood this very well, because grains, beans, nuts, and seeds in their natural form were never consumed without being soaked or fermented first. It was a time-honored tradition of food preparation that kept agrarian cultures thriving. It wasn’t until food mechanization took the reigns and the processing of food became an industry, that soaking and fermenting became a dying tradition.” – Kim, Yogitrition

Do not buy canned beans. Do not trust companies to cook your legumes. Legumes can have intolerable quantities of enzyme inhibitors and dangerous types of lectins that need to be resolved with soaking (and cooking). Check out All About Lectins for more on lectins. Always soak your beans, legumes, and lentils before consuming.

Soak lentils and peas for about 5 hours, and I soak other legumes overnight.

Soy

Soy contains a few enzyme inhibitors including a trypsin inhibitor, that won’t allow nutrients to be properly digested. More than 90% of our soybean crop is genetically engineered. The GMO variety contains 27% more trypsin inhibitor. Soy should be consumed in a fermented form such as miso, tempeh, natto, and tamari sauce. Fermentation reduces soybean’s enzyme inhibitors. Sprouted soy and edamame (green soybeans) are easier to digest.

Asian women have very low rates of menopausal complaints, heart disease, breast cancer and osteoporosis. The soy industry, with sketchy evidence to support their claims, attributes this to soy being a regular part of the Asian diet. These claims, which have become widely accepted due to massive media campaigns, disregard extensive research that shows otherwise. They also disregard other dietary and lifestyle factors at play in Asian cultures. For example, there are many Asian populations that don’t eat soy as a regular part of their diet, yet still enjoy low rates of the chronic diseases mentioned. Among those who do eat soy regularly, fermented soy products are what is consumed the most. Asians aren’t downing quarts of overly-sweetened, highly-processed soy milk or popping supplements containing concentrated soy isoflavones, which has become popular in the U.S. Soy. In addition, the traditional Asian diet consists of primarily whole, fresh, natural foods including sea vegetables, which are packed with vital nutrients and one of the richest sources of absorbable calcium. They also eat a lot of fish, small amounts of meat, and little to no dairy products or processed foods—in stark contrast to the Standard American Diet, which consists of mostly processed foods high in sugar, fat, sodium, and excessive amounts of meat and zero sea vegetables.” – Family Wellness First: Nutrition

Agave Nectar

The Glycemic Index measures how quickly sugar from food enters the bloodstream. Fructose does not raise blood sugar or insulin levels in the short-term. This is why high fructose sweeteners are often labeled as “healthy.” Agave nectar’s low GI is because the sugar in it is fructose. The harmful effects of agave have little to do with the glycemic index. Glucose is an incredibly important molecule, found in many healthy foods and our bodies produce it. We need it. Every living cell does. The liver metabolizes fructose. When the liver cannot process all of the fructose it turns the fructose into fat, which gets shipped out of the liver as VLDL particles, fatty triglycerides, which raise our triglyceride levels.  Eventually, much of the fat lodges inside the liver, which can cause fatty liver disease.

The sugar in agave also feeds pathogens. It doesn’t take much agave to overwhelm the liver. Agave is probably no healthier than white table sugar and could be worse.

Honey

A little bit of raw honey is good for you. While there’s no scientific determination as to how much is too much, I reckon a tablespoon a day is just the right amount for those who are healthy, and far too much for those without a healthy gut.

The biggest two problems with consuming honey are:

  • It’s not always real honey, and it’s almost always pasteurized
  • People tend to cook it even when they buy raw (like when you put it in that coffee or tea)

Cooked honey loses too many of its beneficial properties to still be healthy. Honey should only be consumed raw with the natural enzymes intact.

Other Sugars

Coconut sugar, evaporated cane juice, apple juice, and brown rice syrup are all refined and processed foods. The sugar in fruit juice will have different results than the sugar in whole fruit. You can’t sweeten foods by adding sugar without the consequences of added sugar.

There are also sugar alcohols like maltitol, sorbitol, erythritol, and the most well known, xylitol. Manufacturers of xylitol market the sweetener as derived from xylan, which is found in the fibers of many plants including berries, oats, beets, sugar cane and birch. Sugar alcohols are naturally occurring substances but manufactured xylitol is another matter entirely. Xylitol can be derived from the xylan of birch trees, but xylan is also found in corn. Thanks to our tax dollar subsidies, corn is cheap. Xylitol typically comes from GMO corn to make matters worse.

Sugar alcohols do not break down like food does through digestion. The fermentation of undigested xylitol in the gut disrupts our flora. Studies have shown health issues with mice.

It appears that xylitola may be ok as a sweetener in small amounts, especially for those addicted to sugar. But it’s not healthy. It’s not at all beneficial to our bodies. And in large amounts, sugar alcohols are clearly toxic. For those sweet-tooth’ed ones looking to replace their sugar, there is not substitute without consequences. Sugar, in nature, is hard to come by. We just weren’t meant to eat foods that are so sweet.

But there is one. The holy grail for health nuts: Stevia. But even this sweetener is not without its problems. True health does not come with a sweet tooth.

Dried Fruit

Speaking of sugar, dried cranberries almost always have plenty of it. Lots of dried fruit has this problem. Why do dried bananas need sugar? Double check those ingredients. Ideally, there should only be one. We suggest making your own.

Yogurt

First of all, the whole probiotic craze negates the fact that our stomach acid is designed to kill bacteria. Most yogurt is made with weak bacteria that would be killed within the stomach before reaching the gut. “Would be…” Most conventional yogurt does not have enough of this beneficial bacteria and what little bit it did have was killed off in the processing.

Food Bars

Sugar, cooked, processed, soy and other sticky ingredients make bars a no-no for anyone trying to heal. I’ve found a few bars that I like, but they aren’t healthy. They are a treat. A much better choice than conventional food, but when you’re not well, you shouldn’t trust a company to make your food. Another common problem with healthy food bars, besides soy and sugar, is they tend to add healthy fats that are highly susceptible to degradation, like chia and flax seeds.

Smoothies

Smoothies are typically too sweet, thanks to fruit juice and lots of fruit. But smoothies can be done right if they are made at home. Check out How to Make the Healthiest Smoothies.

Packaged Health Food

The health food section of any grocery store is where the fresh produce is. That conventional, pesticide laden, perfect looking, 4 month-old apples is going to do most people a lot more good than a box of organic, all natural, free range, grass-fed, non-GMO, small farm, locally grown box of cereal. Healthy people eat lots of fresh, raw produce, and cook food from scratch. Pretenders buy their junk food in the organic section. It’s better than the conventional aisles, but it’s not healthy. Get to know your farmer’s markets and the farmers there. Grow your own. Take things one step at a time. And listen to your body. Forget the health food section, and stick to the produce and bulk sections.

Conclusion

When I do eat foods that aren’t the healthiest choices, I take Abzorb with it. It’s an enzyme and a probiotic. It works well. I use it to help digest the food and keep the gut eco system in check. How to Reverse Cavities and Gum Disease Naturally

I don’t know yet at what age this ceases to be true, but from what I have seen, at least up until the 70s, it seems that if the body is getting enough nutrition, the teeth and the gums are capable of regenerating. I was incarcerated (for a crime I did not commit) for a year and a half. The diet was really bad compared to our standards, as you can imagine. I came out with visible holes in my teeth. In jail, I was the guy trading most of my food for the canned veggies and bleached salad mix. But still, my gums had receded, and my mouth looked ten years older. Here is specifically what I did to regenerate my teeth and gums:

Homemade Toothpaste

I just add some coconut oil to some baking soda, a little water, a pinch of sea salt, and a little less of cinnamon. You don’t have to be exact, but we have oral care recipes here if you like. These days I just use Earthpaste and Doc’s Tooth & Gum.

Oil Pulling

Oil pulling is a traditional Ayurvedic method of oral care that involves swishing oil around in your mouth for 15-20 minutes. Some say that this practice can detoxify the whole body and heal all kinds of diseases, but these statements aren’t possible if the diet is not addressed. It does promote good oral health by reducing harmful bacteria and dental plaque while cleaning the areas of the mouth that brushing and flossing cannot get to. Oral health does increase the strength of the immune system, so oil pulling can lead to improved overall health.

Traditionally, sesame oil was used, but these days coconut oil is more often recommended, and it’s my preference as well. To increase the potency of this protocol, use essential oils, such as peppermint, cinnamon, or clove. Tea tree oil and oil of oregano are two good options, but they can get really intense. Start off with just a small amount.

Here are some suggestions with the essential oils for oil pulling. Add these to a tablespoon of coconut oil.

  • For bad breath: 2 drops of cinnamon, spearmint, or peppermint essential oil
  • Toothaches: 2 drops of clove or tea tree essential oil, or one of each
  • Canker sores: 2 drops of holy basil essential oil.
  • Gum disease: 2 drops of cinnamon, clove, or tea tree essential oil.
  • Receding gums: Add 2 drops of Myrrh essential oil.
  • Cavities: 2 drops of clove or tea tree essential oil, or one of each
  • Any infection in the mouth: 2 drops of clove or tea tree essential oil, or one of each

How to Oil Pull

Swish the oil around in your mouth (like you would with mouthwash) and pull through the teeth, for 15 to 20 minutes. Don’t swish hard, or your cheeks will get sore very quickly.

The longer you do it, the more benefit you’ll get. 15 to 20 minutes is ideal, and I like to do it while I write articles, but even just doing it for a few minutes is very beneficial. You may need to take your time and build up your mouth strength. (I did.)

Spit it out! Do not swallow it. That oil gets nasty, and it’s better to dispose of it than swallow it. Follow with tooth brushing, or at least thoroughly rinsing the mouth. And don’t spit it out in the sink. The oil could stop it up.

I did it at least once a day, and the more you oil pull, the better.

Calcium & Magnesium

I eat lots of raw vegetables, but to speed things up, I wanted to make sure I had enough calcium. One should not take lots of calcium indefinitely without magnesium, and the nonfood sources don’t provide calcium that absorbs into our body well. Plus, I was coming out of jail, so I was too broke for supplements anyway, and that Tooth & Gum ain’t cheap!

Lemon Egg Recipe – the best organic calcium supplementation

  1. Carefully place whole, clean, uncooked, uncracked, organic eggs in a clean wide-mouth jar or glass container. How many eggs is up to you, but the lemon juice needs to cover the eggs.
  2. Cover the eggs with freshly squeezed organic lemon juice (concentrated lemon juice is pasteurized and should never be used as a substitute).
  3. Cover the jar loosely and place it in the refrigerator. A few times during the day, gently – very gently – agitate the liquid in the jar. As the Calcium from the shells is leached out by the lemon juice, bubbles will appear around the eggs.
  4. Approximately 44 to 48 hours later, when the bubbling has stopped, carefully remove the eggs from the jar, being sure not to break the egg membranes. Replace the lid tightly on the jar containing the liquid and shake the mixture. You now have “Lemon Egg”.

Drink it straight or mix 2oz in smoothies. It can also be used in recipes calling for lemon juice as well, but the juice will not be acidic and it will taste a bit different. If there is no more than twice as much lemon juice per egg volume I take a tablespoon to two of the lemon mixture and up to six if I don’t eat enough vegetables. Personally, I just took a spoonful every day and chewed it for a while. I don’t know if the teeth absorb any calcium that way, but I suspect it’s possible. I would do this after my brush and floss routine.

One whole medium sized eggshell yields about 750 – 800 mg of elemental calcium plus other microelements, including but not limited to magnesium, boron, copper, iron, manganese, molybdenum, sulfur, silicon, zinc,  (27 elements in total). The composition of an eggshell is very similar to that of our bones and teeth.

Chewing on Garlic

I chewed on garlic three or more times a day for as long as I could stand it. The technique is as follows:

  • Peel a small clove of garlic and put it in your mouth
  • Start a timer
  • Chew with your mouth open
  • Breath through your mouth as you chew
  • When it starts to hurt, close your mouth, and start swishing the juices through your gums
  • Spit it out when it becomes intolerable

At first, I could only do this for about 15 seconds at a time, but I built up to a minute. This is a hugely beneficial technique for anyone with mercury amalgam fillings. Garlic will pull out (chelate) the least attached particles from the fillings before they were about to release.

Doc Shillington’s Tooth and Gum Formula

This is the most popular product sold at Green Lifestyle Market. I think this is in large part because you can so easily tell how well it works. I contend that with the right diet and oral care most people can regenerate their mouth without this formula, but it will speed up the process. If you’re not happy with you can get a refund.

I put some toothpaste on my brush, set that aside, then I squirt one squeeze of this tooth and gum stuff directly into my mouth, and then I brush. That’s how I do it. You can also just brush with the tooth and gum, or do oil pulling with it, or use it with water as a mouthwash, or use it without water as a mouthwash. It’s kind of hard to screw it up, but for maximum effect, do brush it into your gums, and do leave it in the mouth for at least a minute. Healthy Diet

Diet is key. Supplements can do some amazing things, but they simply prolong the inevitable when the diet isn’t first consideration. I ate large salads and lots of raw fruit every day. I occasionally do smoothies, and I generally have a wheat-free grain in a bowl with lots of cooked and fresh veggies and herbs on top. Check out the further reading below for more on my diet. If you really want to know how well this protocol works for you, I suggest pictures. Take pictures of your mouth daily or weekly, and you the judge. But chances are, you’ll feel it and know it’s working. It’s still fun to compare the picture though.

Lastly, your mouth won’t be much healthier than your gut. If you suffer from other health ailments, I suggest a gut protocol like this along with your new oral health regimen.

Johnson & Johnson Ordered to Pay $417 Million In Lawsuit Linking Baby Powder to Cancer

A jury in Los Angeles ordered Johnson & Johnson to pay a record breaking $417 million to Eva Echeverria, a hospitalized woman in California. Eva claimed in her lawsuit that the talc ingredient in the company’s well-known baby powder may cause ovarian cancer when applied regularly to the crotch.

The plaintiff alleged Johnson & Johnson does not adequately warn consumers about talcum powder’s potential cancer risks. She says she used the baby powder daily basis from around the 1950s until 2016. Court papers show she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2007.

Mrs. Echeverria is dying from this ovarian cancer and she said to me all she wanted to do was to help the other women throughout the whole country who have ovarian cancer for using Johnson & Johnson for 20 and 30 years,” – Robinson said.

This is not the lawsuit of this kind, or Johnson & Johnson’s first loss, either. In St. Louis, $70 million was awarded to a woman with ovarian cancer due to baby powder usage,

We are pleased the jury did the right thing. They once again reaffirmed the need for Johnson & Johnson to warn the public of the ovarian cancer risk associated with its product,” Attorney Jim Onder

Apparently, Johnson & Johnson is still not adequately warning its customers.

Can talcum powders cause cancer? Many believe so. According to Cancer.org,

It has been suggested that talcum powder might cause cancer in the ovaries if the powder particles (applied to the genital area or on sanitary napkins, diaphragms, or condoms) were to travel through the vagina, uterus, and fallopian tubes to the ovary. Many studies in women have looked at the possible link between talcum powder and cancer of the ovary. Findings have been mixed, with some studies reporting a slightly increased risk and some reporting no increase.”

There’s a better option.

Homemade Baby Powder Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup arrowroot powder
  • ¼ cup bentonite clay powder or White Kaolin Clay
  • 1 tsp chamomile, lavender, or calendula flowers, in powdered form (use a blender)

Instructions

Mix it together, use as needed. If you want, you can add a couple of drops of an essential oil instead of the flower. Be careful with using essential oils and infants. It’s not something that should be taken lightly. Chamomile, lavender, and calendula in controlled amounts are of the few I that are generally considered safe for small children and infants.

If diaper rashes are a problem, the baby’s eco system is unbalanced, and which usually equates to less beneficial bacteria and more Candida in the gut.

Activated charcoal is expanding into a whole new market. It’s used in water filtration, as poison control, and in herbal medicine regularly, but it’s increasingly showing up in health and beauty care products. So what is activated charcoal, and why are people suddenly rubbing it all over their teeth?

How is Activated Charcoal Different than Actual Charcoal?

Let’s get the biggest issue out of the way. Activated charcoal (also known as activated carbon) is almost but not quite the same thing as actual charcoal (the stuff used for summer grilling). The bulk material used to produce activated charcoal is some combination of bone char, coconut shells, peat, petroleum coke, coal, olive pits, and/or sawdust, while actual charcoal can include all of that plus agricultural waste and other dry biomass.

To create activated charcoal, carbon is heated to temperatures of 1,700 to 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit with steam or air in an oxygen-free environment, although wood-based activated charcoals frequently endure a chemical process that includes heat and phosphoric acid as well. The high heat “activates” the charcoal, removing the carbon’s volatile compounds and enlarging its internal pores. These enlarged internal pores allow the now activated charcoal to chemically attract and bind contaminants like chlorine, PCBs, industrial solvents, and pesticides, among others.

How It Works

When it’s activated, charcoal acquires a positive charge. This is how the activated charcoal captures nasty stuff in our bodies and the water supply. Chlorine, for example, is being replaced in the water disinfection process by chloramine, a chemical that can form trihalomethanes, which in turn can cause cancer. Since that chemical is negatively charged, positively charged activated charcoal is a cost-effective and safe way to improve the quality of the water we use every day. But people also ingest it.

The Bottom Line

Sometimes cheap oils are diluted with true oils like olive oil, which you can test by dabbing a little on a tissue. If the oil doesn’t evaporate, it’s not truly essential. Price point often isn’t a good indicator of quality because low-grade oils can be sold for more than their value. Another red flag is when every oil from a company costs the same because true essential oils considerably vary  in cost. The best thing to do is to read reviews from previous buyers and learn where a company sources its oils in order to ensure quality.

It’s also a smart idea to write the date on the bottles after opening them so that you can gauge their potency over time. Some common carrier oils include olive oil, coconut oil, and jojoba oil.

Inhalation

It’s usually best to dilute the oil with a carrier oil, so make sure to do your research first.
