Bayer Will Pull Glyphosate Products from U.S Shelves for Home Gardeners

Bayer announced earlier this week that it would no longer be selling products containing glyphosate to U.S home gardeners.

Glyphosate is the active ingredient in the herbicide Roundup and has been known to cause non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and other cancers.

Bayer currently has around 30,000 legal claims against them from customers who have developed cancer after long-term exposure to glyphosate.

The World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer declared that it was ‘probably carcinogenic to humans,’ in 2015. While the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under former President Donald Trump ruled that the chemical did not pose any risk to human health, the Biden Administration later admitted that the review was flawed and needed to be redone.

Bayer to Pull Glyphosate Products, Including Roundup, From U.S. Home and Garden Market

Bayer inherited several lawsuits in 2018 when it acquired Monsanto. Bayer settled those cases in 2020 with $10 billion. The settlement allowed Bayer to keep selling glyphosate products without warnings.

As the company continued to face problems they pulled the product to prevent more lawsuits. The company maintains that the decision was purely made to manage litigation risk and not because of health concerns.

Roundup and other products will be replaced with other active ingredients starting in 2023 after EPA reviews.

Johnson & Johnson Covid Vaccine Linked to Neurological Disorder

The FDA has added a warning of an increased risk to Guillain-Barre syndrome following the Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine.

Guillain-Barre syndrome is a rare neurological disorder that causes nerve damage and can result in paralysis.

Based on an analysis of Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting (VAERS) data, there have been 100 preliminary reports following vaccination with the Janssen vaccine after approximately 12.5 million doses administered.

Johnson & Johnson vaccine linked to rare cases of autoimmune disorder

The cases of Guillain-Barre syndrome typically occurred two weeks after vaccination in males 50 and older, said the CDC.

The rate of reported cases of Guillain-Barre currently exceeds the “background rate” or the number of cases reported before the COVID-19 vaccine was introduced.

The syndrome is also a side effect of other vaccines like shingles and the flu.

The AstraZeneca vaccine has also been linked to cases of Guillain-Barre syndrome.

Eric Clapton Speaks Out About Adverse Reaction to Covid-19 Vaccine

Prior to receiving the Covid-19 vaccine Eric Clapton and Van Morrison released a song titled “Stand and Deliver” in which they touch on their feelings of the U.K’s response to the pandemic.

Stand and deliver / You let them put the fear on you / Stand and deliver / But not a word you heard was true / But if there’s nothing you can say / There may be nothing you can do / Do you want to be a free man / Or do you want to be a slave?

Stand and Deliver

Clapton expressed displeasure with the lockdown response, but still got a vaccine as he believed he was vulnerable to the virus due to age and pre-existing health conditions.

Following his first dose, Clapton experienced fever and chills.

I went and had the jab … within several hours, I was shaking like a leaf and I went to bed early and I couldn’t get warm … and I thought, I’m running a fever. I was boiling hot and sweating and then I was cold, and I was out for the count for about a week.

Eric Clapton Details His Vaccine Injury

Despite side effects from the first dose, he followed through with the second dose. Clapton was previously diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy, which causes nerve damage in the arms and legs that can result in pain, burning, numbness, and the feeling of pins-and-needles. Following his second dose, Clapton lost the use of his hands almost completely.

I expected it to be something that would gradually grow worse as I got older into my 80s, but always I could get some ice pack or whatever and it would be fine.

Eric Clapton Details His Vaccine Injury

Clapton also said the vaccine caused damage to his immune system, as his peripheral neuropathy got significantly worse. Clapton has worried about speaking out for fear of losing friends and family and believes this and fear of reprisal has prevented many from speaking out.

Clapton says his biggest fear about the pandemic has been the coercion by the media, the way they use fear to manipulate people into being responsible for other people’s lives.

Food Prices Continue to Rise

Food prices have risen globally for the last 12 months in a row making a 40% increase over the last year.

In April food prices rose 4.8%, the largest increase month-to-month in more than a decade.

The demand for meat, cooking oil, and more is rising all over the world.

High demand for corn in China and a drought in Brazil are both factors causing the surge in food prices.

Cooking oil especially has been subjected to market pressure. Palm oil supplies are at their lowest level in four years, due partly to labor shortages related to the pandemic. And soybean oil prices have risen almost 70% this year, reaching an all-time high last week, due in large part to a renewed demand for soy oil in biofuels.

EU Plans to Propose Legislation to Ban Caged Farming

The European Commission said it plans to propose legislation that will phase out caged animal farming. A citizens’ petition for the ban of caged animal farming collected more than a million signatures.

The commission plans to propose legislation in 2023 to phase out and ban caged farming by 2027. Rabbits, young hen, quail, ducks, and geese would be included in the legislation. Currently laying hens, sows, and calves already have rules regarding cages.

The EU has some of the worlds highest animal welfare standards but more than 90% of the EU’s farmed rabbits were kept in cages and half of laying hens were kept in cages.

Farmers will be able to receive EU subsidies to help them upgrade to new animal farming systems, the Commission said. EU countries can also apply for money from the bloc’s 800 billion euro ($951 billion) COVID-19 recovery fund to help with the transition.

Asian Elephants Leave Their Reserve in Search of a Better Habitat

Elephants in China have left their nature reservation and are roaming across different cities for a new habitat.

The family of 15 wild elephants left their nature reserve more than a year ago. They have traveled more than 300 miles in the last year in search of a bigger habitat.

The Chinese government is tracking the elephants using drones. Authorities have helped them cross roadways and tried to steer them away from densely populated areas. Still, the elephants have trampled more than a million dollars worth of crops on their journey.

The length of the migration is unheard of for Asian elephants, prompting some scientists to believe they left in search of better habitat and are having a hard time finding it. ‘For some reason, these elephants felt that their traditional home range was no longer suitable… and then they just left to find somewhere else,’ said Ahimsa Campos-Arceiz, an elephant specialist at the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden.

Elephants Escape Nature Reserve and Wander Across China In Search of Better Habitat

The elephants previously lived in Yunnan province where native forests are being cut down for tea and rubber plantations. China’s elephant population has doubled over the last 30 years from 150 to 300, due to anti-poaching laws. Unfortunately, their habitats continue to shrink.
