Ebola Is Back in the News – Stats, Scares, and a Vaccine

Ebola is back in the news with an American who traveled to West Africa hospitalized in Birmingham, Alabama due to “Ebola-like symptoms.” The firefighters who helped him were placed under observation and his family was isolated with police. Two new cases were reported in Sierra Leone in an area where the disease outbreaks had stopped, and Merck’s Ebola vaccine, tested in New Guinea, “shows promising results.”

Ebola, formerly known as Ebola hemorrhagic fever, can cause disease in humans and other primates. It is a virus of the Filoviridae family and the Ebolavirus genus. Of the five virus species, four cause disease in humans, the fifth causes disease in non-human primates. Researchers believe infection originates from bats.

The disease is spread from direct contact of body fluids from a person infected with the disease or one who has died from the disease. There is also concern that men who have recovered from Ebola may spread the virus through semen.

On average, symptoms appear 8-10 days after exposure but can appear anywhere from 2-21 days. Symptoms include fever, severe headache, muscle pain, weakness, fatigue, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and bleeding or bruising.

Birmingham Possible Ebola Case – Not Ebola

Less than 12 hours after his hospitalization, patient test results (along with family members and rescue workers) were negative for Ebola.

The unidentified patient, who was on a watch due to his travels, alerted authorities when he began running a temperature. It is reported, however, that he was considered low risk because he had no known contact with Ebola patients while in Africa, nor did he engage in any high-risk activities.

Neighbors were told to stay in their homes while firefighters responded to the patient’s residence. The patient was moved while wearing a mask. The hospital ER was temporarily shut down while the patient was being received.

Firefighters

One report says four firefighters who responded to the call were quarantined in order to go through decontamination procedures. When completed, they were isolated at a firehouse.

Another report said additional rescue workers were under quarantine or observation.

Family Exposed

The two exposed family members were isolated in their home with police remaining on the scene until test results came back negative.

Neighborhood Quarantine

What at first appeared to be a neighborhood quarantine was lifted after the patient was transported. Everyone was told to remain in their homes while rescue workers they assessed the situation and transported the patient. The entire block had been closed to traffic, but the authorities opened up the street around 11 p.m.

Response

The response to this Ebola scare was both preemptive and well orchestrated. UAB Hospital and the patient were both monitoring the patient’s temperature twice a day and watching for Ebola-like symptoms due to the fact that the patient had visited an Ebola-stricken country. This standard protocol was followed with the patient self-reporting when he developed a fever.

The hospital reports that a large number of employees had been undergoing training for more than a year, preparing for such an event. Although it is reported that no firefighters came in direct contact with the patient, authorities erred on the side of caution with decontamination and isolation protocols.

Sierra Leone

After an Ebola death last week in the Tonkolili district, an area that had been free of Ebola for months, authorities quarantined 500 people. The two new cases of Ebola are family members of the man who died.

Ebola Vaccine

Initial results of Merck’s Ebola vaccine report 100% vaccine efficacy in trials, results so promising that the vaccine trials will be changed. Initially, two randomized groups were receiving the vaccine, one that receives the vaccine immediately after exposure and the other that received it 21 days after exposure. Due to the high fatality rate and the initial trial results, researchers are now administering vaccines upon initial exposure.

Current Statistics in Africa

According to current information from the CDC (August 4th, 2015), two countries continue to record widespread cases.

  • Guinea: 3,784 total cases (suspected, probable, and confirmed), 3,327 confirmed cases, 2,522 deaths. 
  • Sierra Leone: 13,406 total cases, 8,695 confirmed cases, 3,951 deaths.

The outbreak in Liberia appears to be under control with only 6 cases reported and confirmed since June 28th. The devastation left in its wake, however, is enormous.

  • Liberia reports 10, 672 total cases, 3,157 confirmed cases, 4,808 deaths.

Current Statistics in Other Countries 

  • Nigeria: 20 total cases, 19 confirmed, 8 deaths
  • Senegal: 1 case, confirmed, 0 deaths
  • Spain: 1 case, confirmed, 0 deaths
  • United States: 4 total cases, 4 confirmed, 1 death
  • Mali: 8 total cases, 7 confirmed, 6 deaths
  • United Kingdom: 1 case, confirmed, 0 deaths
  • Italy: 1 case, confirmed, 0 deaths

This totals 36 total cases, 34 confirmed, with 15 deaths.

Conclusion

We can only hope the reality of the threat is recognized and American children are not faced with another mandated vaccine.

Hospital and emergency worker protocols in place due to the fear of Ebola have provided necessary training for professional response in the event of any type of pandemic. The response to this situation is a far cry from the fumbling efforts with America’s first Ebola patients.

The Corporate Shield Fails – Peanut Corporation of America Defendants Convicted

Stewart Parnell, the former owner of the Peanut Corporation of America, and two co-defendants, his brother, food broker Michael Parnell, and the plant quality control manager, Mary Wilkerson were convicted of charges in Federal court related to knowingly shipping contaminated peanut butter to food processors across the United States in 2008 and 2009. The resulting salmonella outbreak, which was blamed for 9 deaths and 714 illnesses, sparked one of the largest food recalls in history.

The three defendants were charged with 71 counts that included conspiracy, obstruction of justice, wire fraud, and other related charges. The 7-week trial was the first of its kind, according to attorney, Bill Marler, who represented victims in this case. He stated that it was the first federal food-poisoning case to be tried by an American court. It was also the first federal felony conviction of its kind. Although these firsts are newsworthy, the reason the case is back in the spotlight is due to its current sentencing recommendations.

The U.S. Probation Office, which was tasked with preparing pre-sentencing reports to Judge W. Louis Sands, recommended sentencing that “results in a life sentence Guidelines range.” In other words, they recommend a life sentence for Stewart Parnell. Their recommendation for Michael Parnell was 17 to 21 years. Their recommendation for Mary Wilkerson, who was convicted of obstruction of justice, was eight to ten years.

Judge Sands is not bound by these sentencing recommendations, though he is required to consider them prior to Stewart Parnell’s sentencing on September 21.

While Parnell is not the first owner, CEO, or company president to face charges for conduct or business practices that resulted in egregious disregarded the safety and welfare of others, it is rare for the judicial system to challenge the corporate shield. Many criminal activities have been undertaken by morally bereft CEOs, yet the corporations, not the perpetrators, face punishment in the form of lawsuits.

Many (if not most) major American corporations determine their course of action based on the almighty dollar. Lawsuits are figured into the bottom line. Rather than right and wrong or good and bad, decisions are often made by comparing acceptable losses to predicted gains. In many cases, that means determining the cost of the death count verses pulling a product or changing a way of doing business.

Take Big Pharma for instance. When reports of lethal or severely disabling adverse reactions climb, they decide how many deaths from a particular pharmaceutical are too many for continued sales to remain profitable rather than immediately recalling a problematic medication.

If holding people responsible for corporate actions becomes the norm, perhaps giant corporations will change the way they do business. Take Monsanto, for example. An earlier incarnation of the Monsanto Co. knowingly contaminated the town of Anniston, Alabama with PCBs. For decades they tried to cover up, rather than clean up, the pollution in one of the country’s worst cases of industrial pollution. Their actions and lack of concern for the citizens of Anniston resulted in a guilty verdict on all six counts the jury considered: negligence, wantonness, suppression of the truth, nuisance, trespass and outrage. The legal definition of outrage under Alabama law is conduct, “…so outrageous in character and extreme in degree as to go beyond all possible bounds of decency so as to be regarded as atrocious and utterly intolerable in civilized society.”

Not one person was held accountable for the deaths caused by their “outrage.” No one went to jail. Did the 700 million dollars paid out to 20,000 residents, their lawyers (240 million out of the total) , and to the clean up effort make up for the mothers and fathers and children who died? For the children born deformed?

If times are truly changing, perhaps the day will come when pharmaceutical company executives go to jail for fraud when they deceive the government about the efficacy of their vaccines. (A current court case with Merck). Or perhaps when the truth about GMOs comes out, as it surely will, and we find biotech CEOs knew all along what independent long-term studies are proving: GMOs cause cancer and disrupt reproduction, Monsanto’s management team will finally earn their prison sentence.

It’s high time justice is served and protection of the corporation shield is torn down for those who purposefully exploit, maim, and kill their fellow citizens for profit.

Update: 9/21/15. Parnell was sentenced to 28 years in prison.

New Supplement Allows Those With Celiac Disease to Digest Gluten

Scientists at the University of Alberta have designed a new supplement to allow those who suffer from celiac disease to digest gluten. The supplement, derived from the yolks of chicken eggs, works by binding with gluten in the stomach in order to absorb the hard to digest gliadin (the difficult proteins that make up gluten), limiting the damage it can cause to the small intestine. The idea is that one of these pills, which they hope to have available over the counter, will allow the gluten sensitive person to eat any food with gluten for up to two hours without experiencing their usual symptoms. The scientists in charge of the project predict that the only negative in this situation is the inability of those with egg allergies to partake in the supplement.

If you suffer from celiac disease, you can now enjoy a “normal” social life! Take this pill and you can go out to restaurants and eat whatever your friends are eating! Shopping will be easy! No more diet restrictions! No more inconvenience!

What is this pill really going to deliver?

The supplement isn’t designed to heal or prevent celiac disease. Its sole purpose is for people to be able to consume the very foods that led to a chronic disease in the first place.

A condition like celiac disease forces you to examine what you’re eating and to accept a greater responsibility for what you’re feeding your body. Chances are, your entire diet is healthier now that you don’t eat gluten than when you did.

They’re responsible for biochemical products, medicines, and antibiotics for both human and agricultural uses. On at least some level, they’re aware of the uber profitable hamster wheel of unhealthy eating.

More people eating unhealthy, processed food products will result in more revenue for big agricultural companies. This inferior quality of food will create an uptick in medical bills and prescriptions, resulting in more revenue for pharmaceutical companies, medical establishments, and insurance companies. While this new pharmaceutical does indeed perform a service for people with celiac disease, a look at the long-term potential asks another question. Who is doing who the favor?

Get Off the Hamster Wheel

Gluten and today’s modern wheat and wheat-based products are one of the principal causes of Candida overgrowth and intestinal damage. The list of symptoms for celiac disease is long and sympathy cringe-inducing, from constipation or diarrhea to weeping rashes, joint and muscle pain, and arthritis. H.R. 1599, the “DARK” Act, Sets Out to Put the Final Nail in the Organic Industry’s Coffin

(The Free Though Project.com) Washington, D.C. – Congress is considering a bill that would make it illegal for states to require GMO labeling. It would negate the ability of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to create a national GMO labeling standard and specifically allow for the labeling of products as “natural,” even when containing GMOs.

But perhaps the most disturbing part of the bill is the fact that it would make it illegal for counties and states to place any restrictions on the planting of GMO crops.

The ominous bill, H.R. 1599, ironically called the Safe Food and Accurate Food Labeling Act (commonly referred to as the DARK Act – the Deny Americans the Right to Know Act), was recently passed by subcommittee and now moves on to a full vote on the House floor.

The ranking member of the House Agriculture Committee, Rep. Collin Peterson (D-MN), has expressed confidence that the bill will pass in the House. Supporters, such as Peterson, emphatically tout the safety of GMO products, claiming that no scientific experts have proven any legitimate safety concerns; a widely disputed position.

“Consumers increasingly want to know more about where their food comes from and how it is produced. I think H.R. 1599 satisfies that demand while also recognizing what we know about the safety of the foods that our farmers produce. The bill is a workable solution that will alleviate the potential mess of 50 states with 50 different labeling schemes,” Peterson said.

A huge portion of America’s food contain GMOs, with estimates that as much as 80 percent of packaged foods in grocery stores contains GMO ingredients, according to the Grocery Manufacturers Association, which opposes GMO labeling.

A number of politicians and groups, such as the Center for Food Safety and the Environmental Working Group (EWG), have strongly come out against the bill.

“Americans have the right to know what’s in food and how it was grown — the same as citizens of 64 other nations that require GMO labeling,” said Scott Faber, EWG’s vice president of government affairs. “It’s time for lawmakers to recognize that right and stand for GMO labeling.”

There is currently no companion legislation in the Senate, but if the bill passes the House similar legislation is expected to be introduced.

Currently, the states of California, Hawaii, Oregon, and Washington have restrictions in place on the placement of planting of GMO crops. Vermont, Maine, and Connecticut have passed laws requiring GMO labeling.

The planting restrictions are in place to control for the risk of organic farms being contaminated by GMOs, as drift and pollen carried via bee can spread to the organic farms.

Regardless of what you think about the health and safety of GMOs, it is not disputed that Monsanto uses them to predatorily attack farmers. Monsanto has a team of “inspectors” who roam the country looking for their seeds in unauthorized locations.

Farmers don’t even know that this Monsanto GMO is growing in their fields, as it has blown in from a nearby farm, or from a passing truck. However, Monsanto will then sue them for infringing on their patented seed because it is growing in their fields.

This contamination is so widely spread that it is estimated that most organic corn in the U.S. typically contains anywhere from half a percent to 2 percent GMOs, according to companies that sell such corn to organic dairies or poultry farmers.

For organic farmers, the prospect of losing their organic certification has dark implications. Not only would it inevitably drive them out of business due to not being able to sell their products as organic, but this could systematically drive organic farming as whole to the brink of extinction.

Each local jurisdiction has specific sets of issues which need to be addressed when contemplating GMOs. Crafting blanket laws to protect big business interests is contrary to the idea of allowing people to decide what they feel is in their own best interest.

Whether in favor of labeling or not, politicians have shown a blatant disregard for the people whom they claim to represent by attempting to usurp their ability to make these important choices on a state and local level.

The DARK Act is a dangerous piece of legislation, which serves as a blatant example of how the collusion of power and money, in the form of a major lobby and their political cronies, can serve to take away liberty from the American people.

How can anyone claim that not allowing people the ability to know what is in their food, if they choose to know, is somehow a good thing? Outlawing the people of states and counties from deciding what is right for them reeks of oppressive tyranny.

Foods That Feed Candida

Candida is a more common problem than most people realize. The right supplements can certainly help, but unfortunately, Candida albicans and other species of Candida (there are over 20 of them) will bounce back if you do not follow the most effective and necessary change – radically changing your diet.

Usually, the most effective protocol begins with a strict adherence to a sugar-free, grain-free, GMO-free, and processed food free diet. Over time, as the body restores balance, your immune system will be able to hold Candida in check, and more flexibility in your diet can follow. But during the first few weeks of a Candida detox diet, many foods that are normally very good for you should be avoided. The protocol for moderate-to-severe Candida overgrowth is far more restrictive than mild Candida overgrowth. Perhaps you didn’t know all of the following foods feed Candida.

Fruit

Fruits are high in natural sugars. This is by design after all fruit is nature’s candy. However, it’s important to note that sugar, any kind of sugar, feeds yeast, and Candida is a type of yeast.

For the first few weeks of a Candida detox diet, avoid all fruit. After the symptoms of Candida overgrowth die down, fruit can be reintroduced, but this should be done slowly, a few fruits at a time. Also, the reintroduction of fruit should begin with the fruits that are the lowest in sugar; the high sugar fruits should be reintroduced later. Here are some of the best fruits to initially reintroduce in the diet.

  • Lemons
  • Grapefruits
  • Limes
  • Watermelon
  • Apples
  • Raspberries
  • Kiwi
  • Strawberries
  • Blackberries
  • Blueberries

Vegetables

The majority of vegetables are great for a Candida detox diet. Raw vegetables should make up the majority of the foods we eat, all the time, whether we are on a detox diet or not. After the body heals from Candida, a diet high in raw produce, with more vegetables than fruit, is the primary diet change that will keep Candida from coming back and making us sick again – and provide the foundation for health.

Unfortunately, there are a few vegetables that should be avoided for the first few weeks, and not eaten cooked while on a Candida detox diet.

Beets are so high in sugars that cultivars have been developed that are grown just to make processed sugar (sugar beets). Especially when they are cooked, beets (any cultivar) feed yeast in a big way. Healthy people without a Candida overgrowth, should consume raw beets regularly, because they are very high in nutrients.

Alcohol

It is common knowledge that alcoholic drinks are drinks that have been fermented by yeast. Candida is also a type of yeast. Even though there are many differences between the kinds of yeasts used to brew alcohol and the kinds of yeast that infect humans, they share many important characteristics. These fungi feed on sugars and release alcohol and other toxins as waste products. Not only are these toxins harmful to us, they are devastating to the beneficial bacteria in our gut.

Just as alcohol can be applied externally to disinfect wounds (killing bacteria), when taken internally, alcohol also kills bacteria, even the beneficial bacteria that help to keep Candida in check. Without competition from bacteria, Candida can very quickly multiply and cause us a myriad of health problems.

Seafood and Other Food With Heavy Metals

Today’s seafood is not the same as the seafood that we used to catch many years ago. Unfortunately, most of our seafood is contaminated with heavy metals, radioactive material, and other toxins. Sadly, farm raised seafood is usually worse. Farm raised shrimp and fish are usually given GMO feed and they are also contaminated with high levels of PCBS, mercury, and other toxins. Also the mercury in seafood kills our beneficial bacteria, clearing the way for yeast to take over our digestive tract.

Vinegars

Vinegar is made by fermentation in a two-part process. First, yeasts metabolize the sugars into alcohol and then Acetobacter bacteria are added. These bacteria turn the alcohol into acetic acid. Most vinegars can cause inflammation of the gut, and this can make us more vulnerable to yeast infections. Apple cider vinegar is an exception, and most people with Candida overgrowth benefit from consuming it, especially the raw, organic kind. Sensitivity to vinegar does vary somewhat from person to person. Some don’t experience inflammation from any type of vinegar, while others can’t tolerate any type at all, even apple cider vinegar.

Nuts

Nuts are often contaminated with mold. Small amounts don’t pose that much of a problem for us. But since mold is a type of fungus, our bodies are less able to handle the toxins present in mold if we are besieged by Candida, and many molds contain antibiotic properties as well. As you probably guessed, mold can kill off our beneficial bacteria, and we need as much beneficial bacteria as possible to battle Candida.

Beans

Beans are notoriously difficult to digest; that’s where the gas comes from. Any foods or food combinations that are difficult to digest should be avoided when you’re on a Candida detox diet. If you can’t fully digest food that you consume, you are feeding Candida. Beans are one of those foods that are good for us when we are healthy, but not good at all when we are dealing with Candida overgrowth.

Grains

Most people consume far too many grains. Eaten in moderation, some grains are okay, but when on a Candida detox diet, or any kind of detox diet for that matter, grains should be avoided.

Many of us have been taught how to choose the foods we eat from an outdated food pyramid, or the more recent myplate.gov, which is barely an improvement. Following the government recommendations for eating grains leads to chronic disease, with Candida overgrowth being the first and most common symptom that leads to other diseases.

Agave

Most agave nectar that is sold in stores is actually a mixture of corn syrup and agave nectar. After all, corn syrup is cheaper to produce. Agave nectar has been marketed in the U.S. and abroad as a healthy sweetener, and at first glance, this appears to be true. Agave nectar is very low on the glycemic index so it appears to be good for those with blood sugar problems or those who are merely trying to watch what they eat. In truth, agave nectar is worse than high fructose corn syrup.

The reason that agave nectar is sweet is that it is very high in fructose. While fructose is very difficult for the body to digest, Candida goes to town, easily feeding off of it. Consuming high amounts of fructose impedes liver function and promotes obesity. Agave nectar is higher in fructose than high fructose corn syrup. Unfortunately, there is nothing healthy about agave nectar, especially when trying to rid the body of Candida.

Artificial Chemical Ingredients

It’s tempting to think that something with zero calories, like diet soda, is good for us. It’s a comforting thought, but it has no basis in reality.

Aspartame, MSG, Splenda, Sweet N’ Low, Equal, nearly all preservatives such as nitrites and nitrates, and any other difficult to pronounce or mysterious ingredients such as “artificial flavorings” should be avoided.

These are all recent additions to modern diets, and there is no evolutionary justification for eating them. Despite what the FDA would have us believe, we are not meant to eat synthetic chemicals that come from laboratories. There are far too many artificial ingredients for us to list here, but none of them belong in a Candida detox diet.

Other Foods

Sugar feeds Candida, so sugar needs to be completely avoided. A sweet tooth leads to a leaky gut. When sugar is consumed, it feeds Candida and too much sugar transforms Candida into an invasive fungus, robbing us of our health. Candida overgrowth can even penetrate our intestines. It sounds like something out a horror movie, and many people find this hard to believe, but it’s true.

This invasive form, called “mycelial form,” actually produces rootlike tentacles called “rhizoids.” These roots can then penetrate through the lining of the GI tract, causing a pain­ful condition known as “leaky gut,” which is increased intestinal permeability. When you have a leaky gut, partially digested food particles are able to pass through the intestinal lining and directly enter the bloodstream. Not only that, but toxic waste produced by the candida passes right into the bloodstream, too. When this happens, food allergies can result, as well as symptoms of excessive bloating, gas, belching, heartburn, diarrhea and constipation. Don Colbert M.D.

Most dairy products should also be avoided with the exception of unsweetened yogurt and kefir. Dairy contains lactose, a sugar that is difficult to digest, but Candida thrives on it.

How to Eat to Eliminate Candida

It is no small wonder why Candida overgrowth is so prevalent among people these days. Take for instance the most well known all American meal, a cheeseburger and French fries. Eating foods like these promote Candida overgrowth in multiple ways.

The cheese is usually cultured from mold, which is problematic. Usually the cheese is also full of artificial ingredients, and the cow that produced the milk that made the cheese was usually fed GMOs, given hormones and antibiotics, and kept in overcrowded disease ridden conditions. That’s also where the beef came from.

The bread likely contains GMO wheat, as we have been unable to control GMO cross contamination of our food even though all GMO wheat was ordered to be destroyed years ago. Even if the wheat isn’t genetically modified, it most likely was grown with chemical fertilizers, treated with pesticides, and then doused in Roundup just prior to harvest. Also the bread is likely to contain azodicarbonamide, a chemical used in yoga mats, and of course it isn’t good for us.

The French fries are from potatoes grown in chemical fertilizers and treated with potent pesticides, then fried in genetically modified, hydrogenated oils that are high in trans saturated fats.

The healthiest foods in the meal are the lettuce, tomato, pickle, and onion but even those foods do not escape the chemical onslaught typically used in conventional agriculture to produce them. The pickle probably contains GMO sugar, artificial flavors, and artificial colors. What’s worse is that out bodies cannot easily digest a meal that is high in both carbohydrates and protein, even when we are healthy. A different approach to food is needed, and there is a better way.

A truly healthy diet consists of 80% fresh, raw, organic, produce, with more vegetables than fruit. On a Candida detox diet, fruit should always be eaten on an empty stomach; it is easier to digest that way. Starches should never be mixed with protein, and the majority of meals should be made up of vegetables. This is easy to do and very satisfying when salads are regularly consumed.

Why Do So Many Drugs Get Recalled?

It seems like every week we hear about another drug recall, and many people shrug it off as a common occurrence. While some recalls affect very few people, the drug Vioxx was recalled after five years on the market when it was found to double the risk of a heart attack. Unfortunately, more than 38,000 deaths were reported before the connection was made. (1) Recalls are becoming more common, and the numbers are staggering. More than 2,000 drugs were recalled between January 2013 and July 2014, almost as many recalls as the previous nine years combined.

Why Are Drugs Recalled?

Drugs may be recalled for a wide variety of reasons such as mislabeling (incomplete or incorrect directions or the wrong product), poor packaging, contamination, or adverse reactions. (2) The majority of the recalls in 2013 and 2014 were defined as Class II, which is “…use of, or exposure to, a violative product that may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.” (3) In other words, the drugs were contaminated in some way before they hit the consumer market.

What’s Being Done to Help Prevent Recalls?

While many may suspect that drug contamination is nothing new, the 2012 outbreak of fungal meningitis, which resulted in over 60 deaths, spurred a revamping of the FDA oversight on drug production and compounding facilities. Many compounding pharmacies were found to have possible microbial contamination, and several manufacturing facilities were caught violating current good manufacturing practice (cGMP) as defined by the FDA. (3) When you figure one compounding pharmacy or manufacturer usually produces a dozen or more drugs in the same facility, it becomes obvious why the recalls are issued.

In the 10 years before the meningitis outbreak, the FDA inspected nearly 200 compounding facilities and found violations of safety conditions in roughly one-third of the businesses. (4) In comparison, after the crackdown, inspections of almost 150 facilities resulted in violations at nearly 90 percent of the businesses.

What Can You Do to Avoid Being a Recall Victim?

While there’s no way to be sure your medicine is safe before a recall is issued, you can be proactive by signing up for email notification of all FDA recalls. (5) If you are notified that a drug you’re taking or a medical device you use has been recalled, don’t panic. Call your doctor immediately and ask what procedure is in place to ensure your health is protected. If the recall is for a dietary supplement, food, or cosmetics, you should return the item to the place of purchase for a refund.  If you believe your health has been compromised due to a recalled product, you should see your medical provider as soon as possible for any necessary testing.

You can also be proactive in keeping the FDA on its toes when it comes to inspections of pharmacy compounding facilities and drug manufacturing plants. Contact your local congressman and request they keep the pressure on drug manufacturers to produce the drugs we use in a safe and violation-free environment.

SB 277 signed into law by CA Governor to deny vaccine exemptions for school children

The vaccine discussion just got more complicated as California governor Jerry Brown signed SB 277. Just one day after lawmakers sent him the bill, Brown signed it into law, eliminating all personal and religious exemptions for vaccines for California’s schoolchildren.

It defies common sense. It negates basic human rights. But Governor Brown has chosen to take away the right to exempt children from vaccinations for religious and personal (philosophical ) reasons for anyone who wants their child to attend school.

Even though California is only the third state to eliminate these vaccine exemptions, they are the largest and most public. Since the initial proposal of the bill by Democratic state senator Richard Pan, protests and petitions against it have been rampant, and opponents say that they are planning to use every avenue available to them to have the law repealed.

This new bill is a change from Governor Brown’s previous stand on the issue when he left religious exemptions intact but required parents to speak to a health professional before obtaining an exemption. With 67% of California’s adults in favor of the bill and increased pressure from the vaccine and pharmaceutical lobbyists, this bill is not a measured and thoughtful response. It is a frantic scramble after a very public, but very overblown, health scare. Unfortunately, many lawmakers have not fully considered the consequences of their decision.

Opponents of the legislation claim it restricts parents’ rights to chose their children’s care. Opponents vowed to challenge the law immediately.

“We need to wait until someone actually gets thrown out of school until we can challenge it,” an action that will not occur until after the bill takes effect in 2016, said Christina Hildebrand, founder of the group A Voice For Choice. “But we will likely have a referendum on it.” – Sacramento Bee

California is not the only state that denies exemptions. Currently Mississippi and West Virginia also deny exemptions.

Can children keep personal belief exemptions they already have?

If a child is currently exempted (or gains an exemption before the law goes into effect in 2016), that exemption remains in effect until the child enters the seventh grade. No child can enter kindergarten or the seventh grade without vaccinations unless they obtain a medical exemption. Any unvaccinated child with an exemption who enters the seventh grade before the law goes into effect will not have to be vaccinated.

Are medical exceptions allowed?

Medical exemptions are allowed at a doctors discretion. The doctor can take earlier responses to a vaccine into account as well as family history, including reactions of siblings.

Conclusion

Parents are forced to vaccinate their children if they want their child to attend school. The mounting evidence of corruption and careless abandonment of all ethical and moral standards of the pharmaceutical companies who make vaccines is appalling. They recommend an outrageous number of vaccines for our children in the name of preventative medicine while lying about the risks involved. Children are dying all over the world and other countries are refusing our vaccines due to death and injury, but here in America we keep hearing the mantra, “Vaccines are safe and effective.”

Big Pharma is running the show, honing the message, and pulling the strings. They own the media. Mainstream news is afraid to speak out due to the real threat of loss of revenue. Government is just a puppet, pulled along and pushed around by propaganda and our representatives are shamefully bought off with dirty money. How many more children will be neurologically damaged or killed while their parents feel they have no choice but to comply?

Wake up America. Something is very, very wrong when corporations rule the nation, not the people.
