Acupuncture for Fertility

More and more women are turning to acupuncture to increase their chances of conceiving a longed for baby.

Modern life seems to put so many demands on women in their twenties that making a decision to have a child is postponed. Career progression, affording a home, not meeting ‘the one’ until later in life, seem to be the main reasons why many women decide to have their first child over the age of 35, a time when our fertility, supposedly declines.

Of course, there is the inaccurate media message that as soon as we hit 35, all of our eggs are defunct! Interestingly, this message has had such an effect that some women over 35  stop using contraception because they think they are no longer fertile.

So how can acupuncture and diet help boost your fertility? A healthy, regular menstrual cycle is optimum to helping you conceive, being no less than 19 days and no more than 35 days in length.  Acupuncture seems to regulate the menstrual cycle and is particularly beneficial for women who may have been diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). This is a condition of the endocrine system where cysts develop in the ovaries and cause the body to miss ovulation. PCOS also raises high levels of the male hormone called androgens into the body which reduce the size of the follicles. Follicles produce the hormones oestrogen and progesterone and release an egg when you ovulate.

Having acupuncture around pertinent times of the menstrual cycle such as at ovulation and then at the highest point of progesterone, usually day 21, can encourage the body to work more effectively and contribute to a natural pregnancy without the need to resort to hormone therapy. A diagnosis from a Chinese medicine perspective would identify the best time in your cycle for you to have acupuncture.

For many women, undertaking a course of acupuncture to help conception could simply be because it is going to help de-stress the mind and body. Trying to conceive can be extremely stressful, particularly once all the tests have been undertaken and there are no identifiable issues for not falling pregnant.

Stress causes cortisol, a steroid hormone to rise, which in turn can stop our bodies ovulating, so using acupuncture can keep the body receptive and open. Cortisol also affects the part of the immune system responsible for preventing miscarriage in early pregnancy, so having a course of acupuncture once you are pregnant can also be beneficial.

For women who choose medically assisted fertility cycles, acupuncture is often used to maximise the health of the developing follicles and to encourage the blood supply to the uterine lining, to aid with implantation of the egg. Acupuncture is also used to help minimise the side-effects of the drugs.

Acupuncturists who are also naturopaths are additionally equipped to give nutrition and lifestyle advice. Eating nutrient-boosting foods which suit you, and omitting foods and products from your life which can disrupt the functioning of the endocrine and digestive systems helps to address both toxicity and any vitamin or mineral deficiencies. These powerful natural tools used together can support the body in returning to hormonal balance, and can greatly enhance your chances of a having a naturally conceived healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.

How Does Acupuncture Actually Work?

Acupuncture has been practised for more than 2,000 years in China, and it is becoming ever more popular in the West. It is estimated that more than one million treatments are given per year in the UK.

There is increasingly good evidence that acupuncture can successfully treat a wide range of conditions. The World Health Organisation website lists 28 conditions for which acupuncture has been “proved through controlled trials to be an effective treatment”, including rhinitis, headache, high blood pressure, lowered immunity, rheumatoid arthritis, sciatica, back pain, and knee pain. It lists another 60 conditions for which some “therapeutic effect has been shown”, including asthma, infertility, insomnia, and pre-menstrual syndrome.

Thousands of western doctors and physiotherapists have undergone some training in acupuncture. Despite this, many people are still sceptical about acupuncture because it seems to make no sense that the insertion of tiny needles can treat disease. So how does acupuncture actually work?

Part of the answer is that the insertion of acupuncture needles causes the release of chemicals called “endorphins”. (This word is short for “endogenous morphine”. Endogenous means it is produced inside the body, and the word morphine comes from the Greek God of sleep, Morpheus.) There are many kinds of endorphins in the human body, each with a different function. Some reduce pain, some promote the healing of damaged tissue, some promote good sleep, some calm anxiety, and some play a role in hormone production. So, we can see how acupuncture can be used to treat many conditions.

Recent scientific investigations have given us more clues. Using an MRI scanner, it has been shown that the shallow insertion of needles at specific points causes increased activity in the pain control centres of the brain. However, what the neuroscientists found really interesting and surprising, was that if the needles are inserted deeper into the skin, and manipulated until the patient feels a tingling around the needle, the pain control areas become less active (you can see this remarkable experiment on You Tube). This would explain why experienced practitioners get better results than novices, as getting the tingling sensation is an acquired skill.

One study showed that acupuncture caused changes in the brain which promoted stroke recovery. In this experiment, normal acupuncture was compared to “sham” acupuncture, where needles are deliberately inserted in the wrong points. Only the correct acupuncture had the desired effect.

According to Chinese medicine, energy, or “qi”, gathers in certain points near the surface of the body and flows along channels called “meridians.” It has been speculated that this “qi” is a very low level of electrical impulse, and indeed acupuncture points and channels have been found to be areas of low electrical resistance. When a person is ill, the electrical activity at the acupuncture points changes. The insertion of needles helps to return the electrical activity of the acupuncture point to its normal level. Experiments have been done where substances have been injected into acupuncture points and have been observed to move along the acupuncture channels.

So, there is mounting evidence that acupuncture has real health benefits, and that it has a scientific basis of action.

Five Best Superfoods for Gut Health

Indigestion can seriously mess you up. I mean, think about it. One of the most important systems that your body has isn’t working properly and starts glitching. There’s going to be some inner turmoil.

If you’re prone to indigestion, you know what I’m talking about. Yeah, you might want to leave it a minute there before you provoke the stink-o-palypse.

So, you want to sort that out ASAP.

Where do you go? You have the option of popping down to your local drugstore, but let’s face it- that binge of chips and cheese you had last night probably has a lot to do with it.

No, this is between you and your gut. There’s no reason to get anyone else involved. So start at the root and get these five superfoods down your chute. They are guaranteed to save you from the embarrassment of the century. Don’t say we never did anything for you.

Moringa

Moringa is one of those old-as-time secrets that we were just extremely slow at catching onto. Indeed, we now know that it’s probably been used as a medicine for indigestion for a millennia. That’s a ridiculously long time to think about.

Because of its high fiber content, it works like a mop in your intestines (and for the boys, around your colon) to clean up any of that extra grunge left over from a greasy diet. Not to mention its anti-bacterial composition, great for ousting any unwanted visitors that get in the way of healthy digestion.

Extra gut perk? Moringa’s packed with isothiocyanates that’ve been shown to act as a natural antibiotic against H. pylori, a pathogen that’s a major cause of gastritis, both gastric and duodenal ulcers, and gastric cancer.

Aloe Vera

Oh, aloe vera. You’re probably more used to smearing this on you whenever you get a bad cut, but aloe vera also has surprisingly good traction inside the body. It contains things called mucopolyaccharides (we’re not even going to bother offering a pronunciation), which are present in every cell of our body and have a ton of vital jobs.

Among these are helping our digestive tract to absorb nutrients, getting body fluids to flow smoothly, and building a wall in the intestines which stops toxic and harmful chemicals right in their tracks. And it’s proven, too; a 2004 study showed that ulcerative colitis patients saw a significant improvement after taking the stuff twice a day for four weeks.

Chlorella

Chlorella is a kind of freshwater algae, originating from East Asia. It’s set apart from other algae thanks to its detoxifying agent, which helps to remove harmful substances from the body- particularly around the liver. Its heavy fiber content helps to toughen up the lining of the intestines and fight constipation head on, keeping your bowels regular and your body feeling feeling much lighter.

Kefir

When people talk about kefir, they’re usually talking about milk with kefir grains added in- known quite simply as milk kefir. But it’s the added grains that make kefir especially beneficial. They work essentially the same as yoghurt- adding more “good” bacteria to crowd the bad, but they have a lot more beneficial qualities than your standard, store-bought yoghurt. They help to soothe inflamed intestinal cells whilst the collection of friendly microflora found sends in new recruits for the battle against harmful gut flora.

Kimchi

Kimchi (pronounced kim-chee) is the national dish of Korea and has seen more of the universe than most of us will ever see. In fact, there was a type of kimchi bred by scientists for the sole purpose of being safe to eat in space!

Loaded with anti-oxidants and with enough fiber to leave your intestines sparkly clean, kimchi offers pure benefits with almost no calories or fat to speak of. Kimchi goes through a process of fermentation that creates helpful bacteria. One of the star players in kimchi is lactobacillus, which helps regulate gut flora.

We all have moments where our digestive system just doesn’t want to cooperate, but you don’t have to put up with it. Changing our diet is probably the most effective way we have of treating indigestion, since a lot of the time the reason our tracts are taking a hissy fit is because we’re not giving them enough of the good stuff!

35 Things You Could Do With Coconut Oil – From Body Care to Health to Household

It wasn’t that long ago when we were told saturated fats were bad for us, that they clogged the arteries. Well, new studies have shown that was a myth; coconut oil is good for your health. Common sense should have told us this a long time ago. After all, societies that eat a lot of coconut are populated with some of the healthiest people on the planet.

Now that we are no longer afraid to include it in our diet, we have found we can eat the meat, drink the water, turn it into milk, and squeeze out the oil. Every part is a great source of nutrition. But that’s not the only benefit.

Coconut oil is also antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral and anti-inflammatory. It has a world of uses. Here are a few:

Coconut Oil and Body Care

  1. Oil pulling. Swish a tablespoon or so of coconut oil through your mouth for 15-20 minutes the first thing in the morning. This is a great practice for oral health and many claim other health benefits as well (oral health recipes).
  2. Brush your teeth with it. Use it plain, add a few drops of essential oil (peppermint, cinnamon, tea tree, oregano), or make your own DIY toothpaste.
  3. Use as a carrier oil. Most of the essential oils are too strong to use full strength. They should be diluted with a carrier oil and coconut oil works very well for this purpose. Just add a few drops of the essential oil of your choice to a tablespoon of coconut oil and rub it on your skin (essential oils for infections).
  4. Use as a moisturizer. Plain coconut oil is great for the skin. It is said to lighten dark spots and help prevent stretch marks.
  5. Make-up remover. Removes all make-up, including eye make-up.
  6. Diaper cream. Use on baby’s butt!
  7. Hair conditioner. Rub it into dry hair and leave it in for a few hours (shampoo conspiracy).
  8. Use as a shave cream.
  9. Use as a deodorant (deodorant recipe).

Coconut Oil and Health Care

  1. Nail fungus. Add 5 drops of tea tree oil to 1 tablespoon of coconut oil. Rub into nails (kill fungal infections).
  2. Personal lubricant. Does not disrupt natural vaginal balance.
  3. Cracked heels. But remember this can be a sign of diabetes. Check your blood sugar and change your diet!
  4. Use after the burn cools off.
  5. Bug bites. Stops the itching and promotes healing.
  6. Chapped lips. Instant moisture. And it tastes good!
  7. Use on abrasions. Helps skin heal faster. (Also for perineum post birth).
  8. Stops the burning and itching.
  9. Prevents and may help reverse Alzheimer’s.
  10. Kills topical yeast infections.
  11. Kills lice.
  12. Soothes eczema and psoriasis.
  13. Helps to heal acne.

Pet Care With Coconut Oil

  1. Dry or cracked paws
  2. Dry noses.
  3. Hot spots.
  4. Rashes
  5. Cuts or abrasions.
  6. Helps prevent parasitic infections.
  7. Kills yeast and fungal infections.
  8. Glossy coat.
  9. Better digestion (dog food recipe).

Note: For dogs, one teaspoon per 10 lbs. of weight (or one tablespoon per 30 lbs.). Start with ¼ of the amount and work up to the full amount over a 3-4 week period. Mix it into food.

Household Uses for Coconut Oil

  1. Season cast iron pots and pans.
  2. Polish metals.
  3. Polish furniture.
  4. Use on scuffed leather.

There are many more health benefits from eating coconut oil. But remember to always choose organic virgin coconut oil.

It’s great for cooking and it takes very little to sauté a stir-fry. But you can add coconut oil to smoothies, use it instead of butter or margarine, replace other oils in recipes, or just eat a spoonful. Yes, it’s that good for you!

How To Kill Candida, Fungi, Yeast in the Body

There are over twenty different species of Candida known to cause yeast infections. The best known, and most common, is Candida albicans. Natural treatments for yeast infection do not vary based on the type of yeast that is attacking the body; both the protocol and supplementation are the same.

Candida is typically present in healthy individuals. It can live on the skin and in mucous membranes without causing an infection or any ill effects. As a fungus, it even plays an important role in breaking down organic wastes and recycling the nutrients. A little Candida is not a bad thing, but a lot of it, especially when it spreads throughout the body, is a very bad thing.

A Silent Epidemic

Candida is opportunistic and highly adaptive. When given the right conditions Candida albicans can overgrow very quickly causing yeast infections and fungemias (systemic fungal infections). Mild to severe Candida infections are incredibly common among the U.S. population due to the Standard American Diet, which is very conducive to Candida overgrowth.

Candidiasis is more prone to occur in warm and moist areas of the body; areas like the digestive tract, the genitals, mouth, throat, skin folds, and anywhere in the body with dead or dying tissue. After Candida eats away at dead tissue, it will often attack healthy tissue in order to keep growing. And Candida creates waste products that are neurotoxins such as formaldehyde, alcohol, and acetlyaldehyde. Candida infections include the following:

  • Skin (yeast infection or diaper rash)
  • Genitals (genital/vulvovaginal candidiasis)
  • Throat (thrush or oropharyngeal candidiasis)
  • Mouth (thrush or oropharyngeal candidiasis)
  • Blood (invasive candidiasis)
  • Digestive Tract

As you can see, yeast infections can happen just about anywhere. Athlete’s foot and ear infections are directly caused by Candida while many other ailments such as the cold and flu are indirectly caused by Candida. When our immune system is stressed and taxed from battling Candida, we are more prone to other infections. Usually, when someone is sick they are dealing with multiple pathogens including Candida and other fungi, though not always at a level where conventional medical testing would show it.

Systemic candida infections, even mild infections, can place a heavy burden on our body’s defenses making it open season for other pathogens. This is how most of us get sick. The Standard American Diet and Candida impair our immune system enough to make us susceptible to viral and bacterial illnesses.

Candida Overgrowth Mimics Other Conditions

There are so many symptoms of Candida overgrowth that it can be difficult to diagnose. It is exceedingly rare that someone would have all of the symptoms and the combination of symptoms varies a great deal from person to person. Far too often, symptoms of candida overgrowth are mistaken for other conditions such as ADHD, Autism, Alzheimer’s, and Multiple Sclerosis. Worse still, Candida overgrowth makes these conditions far more difficult to manage.

The Role of Bacteria

Bacteria live in and on the human body in either a harmful or a health promoting, symbiotic relationship. We have ten times more bacteria in and on our bodies than our number of human cells. We label bacteria as bad when it feeds off of healthy tissue or releases toxins through its metabolic processes.

Beneficial bacteria in the gut digest our food, assimilate the nutrients present in our food, and they even make vitamins and the body’s majority of neurotransmitters. Bacteria play a dominant role in our immune system. Beneficial bacteria work hard to keep bad bacteria and Candia in check.

The remainder of the body’s defenses would be quickly overwhelmed by invading pathogens without the help of friendly microorganisms. If we take care of our good microbes, they’ll take care of the bad microbes for us.

Diet Is Key

The easiest and most effective way to increase beneficial bacteria and build up the immune system is to eat the right foods. Without changing the diet, all of the supplements and medications in the world won’t rid the body of Candida. The right food is the best medicine; it restricts the growth of Candida and aids in the growth of beneficial bacteria.

Gut microbiomes can even influence our food cravings. This can make it even more difficult to change our diet than we once thought, but new evidence is emerging that further reinforces the notion that the change is well worth the effort.

Bad bacteria and yeast prefer junk food, low fiber, sugar, and a lot of carbohydrates and processed foods. Sugar directly feeds yeast. Simple refined sugars feed it the best. A diet high in sugar also enables viral and bacterial infections, as sugar impairs immune system function. This is standard American fare but not what we have evolved to eat. This is much of the reason why Americans are, on average, in such poor health.

We evolved to eat foods in their entirety, not reconstituted, concentrated foods. Food is more than just vitamins, minerals, and calories. The parts of food that we don’t digest, the fiber, is crucial to our health. So is a diverse diet.

High fiber foods such as raw produce modulate our metabolism. If you drink a large glass of orange juice your blood sugar will jump up. Not so if you eat a large orange. Fiber regulates the speed at which food travels through our digestive system. It slows the release of the sugars and carbohydrates from food and it feeds beneficial bacteria. Raw produce, more vegetables than fruit, creates a microbiome that kills harmful microbes and encourages beneficial ones.

Good flora can turn into bad flora because your eco system is built on what you feed it. Good food equals good flora. Flora that is even remotely capable of digesting and moving out highly processed foods such as fast food are flora that are very powerful and dangerous to us. These are the kind of microbes that can survive preservatives and exposure to other toxins.

If we damage our intestinal lining with things like alcohol, preservatives and other toxins, then we are also killing our more delicate and more friendly intestinal flora. Candida does not die off so easily, and without fierce competition from friendly bacteria, yeast can and does overgrow in the digestive tract.

Anti-Candida Diet

A Candida diet must eliminate some of the foods that you will normally eat on a healthy diet, but the basis of a healthy diet remains the same. A Candida diet should consist of 80% fresh, raw, organic produce, more vegetables than fruit. Choose a wide variety of nutrient dense foods. If you eat meat, make sure you choose organic meat. You do not want to eat meat from diseased animals that were fed hormones and antibiotics. Avoid processed foods, and do not eat any foods with artificial flavorings, colorings, preservatives, MSG, or trans fats. Avoid all GMOs. This is easy to do if all of your food choices are organic.

This is a prebiotic diet. Raw produce is high in fiber, which is essential for gut health. Fiber not only moves toxins through the bowels, it provides the perfect environment for healthy bacteria to thrive. Many conventional sites that write about a diet for Candida warn against eating fermented foods. We make the opposite recommendation, eat lots of fermented foods. Fermented foods such as sauerkraut, kimchi, kombucha, and kefir provide the healthy bacteria needed in the gut–the bacteria that will ultimately crowd out Candida. Foods that kill fungi include onions, leeks, green apples, ginger, pomegranates, and citrus fruits. Along with diet, there is an arsenal of natural treatments for Candia. It isn’t necessary to take supplements to kill Candida, but it does speed up the process faster than diet alone.

There is an undeniable link between gluten reactions and candida. This is because there is a protein found in Candida, HWP-1, which is highly homologous (nearly identical) to two gluten proteins, alpha gliadin and gamma-gliadin. These proteins are known to stimulate immune cell responses in people who otherwise might not have any problems with gluten. In other words, Candida, the yeast responsible for oral thrush and vaginal infections (and so much more), contains a similar protein as gluten, and this can trigger gluten sensitivities.

What to Avoid

Juices, gluten, GMOs, sugars, ketchup, mushrooms, refined foods, toxins that disrupt gut balance from antibiotics, vaccines, and alcohol should all be avoided if possible. Conventional meats should also be avoided due to widespread prophylactic antibiotic use, which can damage our beneficial bacteria. Also it is important to limit intake of starches. Red potatoes and sweet potatoes are good choices when eating potatoes. These restrictions are temporary. After healthy gut bacteria are well established and symptoms of Candida overgrowth are gone, some flexibility in diet will return. Should symptoms reappear, just strictly adhere to the diet for a few weeks to a few months.

Anti-Fungal Foods

A diet high in produce with more vegetables than fruits is crucial for healing Candida. There are, however, some foods that have particular anti-fungal or probiotic qualities that will speed up Candida’s demise. If you take away the foods that Candida thrive on, yeast infections will be a thing of the past, even the low-lying kind that saps you of your energy and focus.

These foods contain potent anti-fungal properties, so they do a remarkable job of killing Candida. They should make up a substantial portion of any Candida detox diet, which should also include other low-sugar, high fiber vegetables. High fiber raw produce creates the right environment for beneficial bacteria to thrive.

  • Green Apples
  • Pomegranates
  • Garlic
  • Oregano
  • Onions
  • Leeks
  • Coconut
  • Rutabaga
  • Turnips
  • Olive Oil
  • Lemons & Limes
  • Pumpkin Seeds
  • Broccoli
  • Brussels sprouts
  • Arugula
  • Watercress
  • Cabbage

These spices also have potent anti-fungal properties. Try to work them into your meals every chance you get.

  • Thyme
  • Turmeric
  • Clove
  • Cayenne Pepper
  • Cinnamon

These probiotic foods are very beneficial if you can get them with live cultures. Consuming these foods will help increase the numbers and effectiveness of your beneficial bacteria. Take care to avoid MSG, artificial flavors, and other questionable ingredients that are sometimes found in these foods.

  • Sauerkraut
  • Kimchi
  • Raw apple cider vinegar
  • Acidophilus
  • BioK
  • Kombucha
  • Yogurt
  • Kefir
  • Other fermented vegetables

The problem with many of the aforementioned foods is that the stomach acid typically kills most or all of the beneficial bacteria. Some yogurts are designed with bacteria strong enough to survive stomach acid, and high quality probiotic capsules are typically designed get through acid and release in the gut.

If you want to heal from Candida faster, these supplements can help to speed up the process.

Conclusion

Candida overgrowth is incredibly common. A diet high in starches, sugars, preservatives, and processed foods feeds Candida while a diet high in raw produce feeds Candida’s competition. Once you kill off the Candida, you’ll be amazed by the clarity you gain and the difference in how you feel. In addition, the dietary changes you make will provide the foundation for a vital, healthy life.

From The Editor: Fungal Supplement Stack – Knock Out Yeast, Candida, Mold, Fungus

The first three should be plenty for most people, but for really prominent fungal issues or for impatient people with a bigger budget I’d recommend all of these:

I recommend taking the SF722, Berberine, MycoCeutics, and Microdefense with meals, and the Abzorb and Syntol separately, on an empty stomach (like in the morning and before bed). The Abzorb and the Syntol are a bit redundant, but I find good results using both if the budget can afford it. If money is really tight, just get the SF722 and put your money into your diet.

A Natural Approach to Psoriasis

Normally our skin renews itself in 28-30 days, but in people with psoriasis, skin production is accelerated. New skin accumulates faster than old skin is shed, forming thickened patches of raised, silvery scales over the skin, called plaques, which are often itchy.

People with psoriasis experience cycles of flare-ups and remission. Attacks are related to times of stress, illness, surgery, cuts, certain viral and bacterial infections, sunburn, faulty fat assimilation, and food allergies! Previous vaccinations seem to be a causative factor for some people. Certain drugs also cause flare-ups. Conventional medical treatment may include steroid ointment, which can help suppress symptoms, but its long-term use can damage and thin the connective tissue of the skin.

The naturopathic approach, as with any health condition, is to find the root cause of the problem. In many years of working with clients who have psoriasis, alongside various contributing factors, I have frequently noted the phenomenon of leaky gut syndrome.

Leaky gut is where disruption to the intestine lining allows toxins, yeast, and other waste material to enter the bloodstream, provoking an undesirable immune system response.

There is no one-size-fits-all solution. A consultation with a naturopathic practitioner will take into account the individual’s constitution before developing a programme that can support the sufferer’s overall health. This may include recommending an elimination diet in order to identify any specific foods that provoke an allergic response, providing nutritional advice, tailor-making a bowel cleansing formula (essential to a long-term health strategy), and building a healthy gut.Self-help

Tips for Psoriasis Sufferers

  • Eliminate all junk food from your diet. Avoid processed food, white flour, sugar, and citrus fruit.
  • Milk, cheese, eggs, meat and poultry contain arachidonic acid, which causes psoriasis lesions to turn red and swell, so you could reduce these for a two-month trial, or at least cut them out when you are having a flare-up.
  • Focus on eating a diet high in raw food with plenty of vegetables, non-citrus fruits, whole grains, nuts and legumes, as Vitamins A, B complex, and D, plus calcium, magnesium and zinc are all important in reducing symptoms.
  • Eat organic food to reduce your overall toxic burden.
  • Take some flaxseed oil and/or sesame oil, or primrose oil every day. These contain a chemical, which tends to reduce psoriasis.
  • Lose weight if you are overweight.
  • Since stress can aggravate it, try to develop a calm, cheerful outlook on life.
  • Exposure to regular, safe amounts of sunlight helps.
  • Swimming in the ocean is helpful, or put sea salt or a few handfuls of oatmeal into a warm bath to relieve itching.
  • Creams containing capsicum can reduce both scaling and redness.
  • Licorice contains glycyrrhetenic acid which studies have shown works better than hydrocortisone in treating both psoriasis and eczema. Apply it directly as a cream from your herbalist.
  • A naturopathic herbalist can also mix you an appropriate combination of milk thistle seed, dandelion root, and yellow dock, which, taken as a tea, can work fantastically well in helping to reverse psoriasis.

Oxygen, Alkalinity – The Key to Reversing Disease

It’s Always the Oxygen… Really…

The Framework

Think of life in the ocean or an aquarium. Our bodies are just bags of “seawater” full of aquatic cells. The water matrix must be well oxygenated to support fish and cells alike. Oxygen delivery depends on a well charged “inner ocean,” and generating that charge depends on oxygen delivery. Real simple. Call me Capt. Obvious.

The universe is a rainbow manifestation born of a singular primal energy that divided itself into a duality of opposites: protons/electrons, acids/alkalies, north pole/south pole, yin/yang, here/there and the boy/girl thing we all deal with daily. They animate our world… to prevent boredom I suppose. Viva la difference! Likes repel each other while opposites desire union in a redox dance, the incessant exchange of electrons, the movement of energy, the spark of life.

We can measure this “sexual” tension as body voltage, oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) or pH.  Bottomline, it is energy that drives all life processes.

The major determiner of bio-energy is O2 delivery to cytoplasm and mitochondria where it generates metabolic ATPs  (ATP is the carrier molecule that transfers electrons/energy resulting from cell respiration) …and then sponges-up acidic protons to conserve those electrons, that energy.

If you work from this foundational premise, the puzzle of health and healing unravels nicely. Then the only question is how to correct basic conditions… to move more oxygen… to maximize energy levels and minimize losses… to prevent or heal disease. The charge environment that comes of efficient energy production invites more oxygen to produce more energy, so la la la, the life goes on.

The Way It Used to Be

While scientific studies focus on individual diseases, generalized diets and therapeutic elements like drugs or even natural supplements, they ignored the overall context of life and its basic requirements. All chronic disease really arises from a singular root cause; acidity>hypoxia>energy shortage>enzyme error>cell failure… aka inflammation and oxidative stress. This includes all the “diseases” conventionally identified through downstream symptoms and secondary etiologies. Heart disease, arthritis, depression, infection, cancer, etc. are then conventionally “diagnosed” and treated individually like some evil entity apart from the low energy environment that created them.

The Way It Will Be

The Forbidden approach works on correcting energy levels/body charge at the most basic level to establish conditions necessary for optimal oxygen delivery and energy production so normal biochemistry can proceed. Cells are perfectly capable of both maintaining and restoring function and mounting immune responses when given enough energy. This presents a problem for highly trained doctors and the medical industry who depend on selling thousands of drugs, diagnostics and procedures for hundreds of “different” diseases…after failing miserably at preventing them.

Electrons!

Mitochondria mine solar-energized electrons from carbon bonds (in food) and the conversion to ATP largely fuels our biochemistry and maintains body charge (-40 to -50mv/pH 7.35-7.45). A strong body charge protects cell molecules from being destroyed by acids, oxidants, radiations, free radicals: inflammation/oxidation. Inflammatory immune response, on the other hand, though powered the same way, produces powerfully oxidizing hydrogen peroxide and singlet oxygen (ROS) that destroy pathogens and unwanted cell debris.  Life swings in the balance.

Oxygen is a switch hitter depending on its atomic states and so can act as a metabolic oxidizer, a more powerful immune oxidizer in singlet radical configuration, or as an “antioxidant” as it turns acidic protons to water when it mops-up after the process of respiration. Oxygen recharges pH buffers and conserves electrons.

So big picture, this means that over-fueled/under-oxygenated cells will become acidic and further repel and deplete oxygen. If unable to get enough oxygen to neutralize metabolic acids, charge terrain will degrade, electrons will be stolen from DNA and structural molecules, energy production will be frustrated, and then cells become dysfunctional, diseased, susceptible to pathogens, decompose, or become anaerobic and cancerous.

This view of health and healing hides in plain sight in high school biology/chemistry texts, but has become forbidden knowledge camouflaged in medical industry fear-peddling, intentional disinformation, and by discrediting the competition.

So how do we nudge the redox (oxidation/reduction) balance to create the correct conditions and move more O2?

Skill-set Index

Master these simple skills and practices used by some of the most successful alternative physicians and natural health experts.  They are inexpensive and can be done at home, in the garden and in the kitchen…if one studies and applies.

Breathe

Slow deep breathing allows CO2 to build which improves oxygen release by RBCs.  Hyperventillation/rapid breathing delivers lots of oxygen and blows off CO2 alkalizing the blood (and normally doesn’t induce fainting).

Breathing exercises use both extremes and many in between. It’s free, so why not explore and experiment? Skin, scuba, and hookah diving offer unseen benefits.

HBOT and other enhanced oxygen applications have been found to help overcome almost every ailment from concussions to sports injuries including conventional hospital treatments for gangrene, but are sorely, and negligently underutilized.

Breathing air under pressure saturates blood plasma with O2 above and beyond RBC’s capacity….pure oxygen under pressure delivers even more. HBOT use is quite common elsewhere in the world. The use of promising high-pressure therapies in the U.S. was sabotaged by the medical establishment and has gone the way of Linus Pauling, Vitamin C, and Chiropractic.

“Orval J Cunningham, a professor of anaesthesia at the University of Kansas in the early 1900s observed that people suffering from circulatory disorders did better at sea level than at altitude and this formed the basis for his use of hyperbaric air. In 1918, he successfully treated patients suffering from the Spanish flu with hyperbaric air. In 1930, the American Medical Association forced him to stop such hyperbaric treatment, since he did not provide acceptable evidence that the treatments were effective.”  (Wikipedia entry; HBOT)

I often marvel at the immense size of whales and how they carry sea level air to great depths with 10s of atmospheres of pressure. This jams their blood plasma and cells with high levels of O2 and can only account for their tremendous bulk.  I also wonder what special chemistries allow terrestrial elephants to attain such proportions?  Recall the age of dinosaurs with 35%+ atmospheric oxygen… when living large really meant something.”

Earthing

Contact with Mother Earth passes her negative charge into the body. Perfect. Try going barefoot and swimming at every opportunity.  Grounded bed sheets and many other helpful applications are also available.

Sunshine

Photons raise electron energy levels wherever they strike and power photosynthesis in plants and Vitamin D synthesis in humans. Dr. Gerald Pollack has shown that light, radiant heat, and acoustic energy structure our 99% water, alkalize it, and enhance charge potentials that give living organisms stronger “batteries.” Fresh research (links below; chlorophyll/humans-photosynthesize) concludes that we utilize solar photon energy directly.

Nutrition

Modern processed foods are literally predigested with complex fat, protein, and carbohydrate molecules being oxidized, altered, or broken down into too easily absorbed units. This circumvents normal digestion, ruins bacterial balance in the gut, and causes leakage. The flood of fuel into cells then overtakes oxygen availability resulting in a drop in pH, voltage, and biochemical function, not to mention it is fattening and creates glycations and autoimmune problems.

Grass fed and unprocessed organic ingredients contain the most “life force” or in actuality way more photon energized electrons. A nutrient-dense real food diet satisfies appetite in smaller amounts than deficient factory foods ever can.

Balance acid-forming and alkalizing foods and cook gently, sticking with low glycemic choices and those rich in balanced omega/saturated fats, diverse proteins, fiber, vitamins, minerals and antioxidant polyphenols.

Membrane Musts

One must build an oxygen expressway into cells and so must consider the quality of red blood cells, electrolytes and the charge of blood… up to and through membranes which must be constructed of the proper saturated and omega fats, not trans or other damaged oxidized polyunsaturates.

Membranes must present a charge gradient to transport oxygen and materials, and that depends on adjacent H2O/H3O2 structure, viscosity, electrolytes, and the conductivity of pristine fat molecules as well as vigilant protection of those fat molecules from oxidation by maintaining well-charged fluids.

Supplements

Vitamin C is more than a vitamin though it performs dozens of essential functions; it’s a bulk electron source!!!

Baking soda or sodium bicarbonate, a giant medicine in its own right, is an alkalizing source of pH buffering bicarbonate which releases beneficial CO2 and swings between bicarbonate and carbonic acid with every breath and is also active in the kidneys. When ascorbic acid (pure Vitamin C) is mixed with baking soda, ascorbic acid is neutralized and becomes sodium ascorbate to flood the system with electrons.

Magnesium is found in red blood cells where it helps carry oxygen and relaxes the heart muscle for more efficient pumping which is key to oxygenating the system. Rebuilding magnesium reserves takes time and concerted effort.

Niacin and nicotinic acid compounds NAD+/NADH are essential electron-proton ping-pong players that soak up excess protons and deliver electrons in metabolic energy production. I have only listed a few, but you get the idea and point of view of oxygen and electrons and the primary importance of body charge.

All vitamins and minerals are important, but conventional intake numbers are bogus, many times too little too late. The whole idea of minimum nutrient requirements bows to the high priests of pharma and the czars of industrial food. Confusion rules the subject, so we must quantify our own needs based on nutrient contents of our particular diet, hair analysis, levels of inflammation and any apparent symptoms.

Megadosing of Vitamins C, B3 (niacin) and B12 is common in alternative literature and even short term loading of Vitamin A, D and E have been reported.

Synergistic benefits accrue when combinations are used like adding Vitamin E, K2, NAC, and RALA to Vitamin C megadose along with minerals since their charges and effectiveness are maintained through Vitamin C’s electron benevolence.  This is quantitative chemistry where quantity counts and excess quantity pushes equilibria…a good thing.

GMI has frequent articles reminding us of valuable nutrient sources to bring to the kitchen to enhance one’s intake of phytos, healthy fats and protein sources.  Polyphenol-rich items (see link below) like turmeric, citrus flavonoids and green tea enable oxygen delivery by knocking off damaging hydroxyl radicals that would otherwise oxidize membrane fats and cell structures.

In a perfect world with a higher oxygen content and pure foods in magnificent variety, one could be free of health worries and supplements. Unfortunately, man in his infinite ignorance has created an artificial food supply, burned forests and fossil fuels, and spilled his chemistry set to the extent he has acidified, contaminated, and inflicted oxidative stress and mass extinctions upon the entire planet.

Emotional

Stress is an acidic, out-of-control emotion commonly described as fear, shame, guilt, and anxiety which excites the sympathetic nervous system and dumps cortisol.  Improving body charge helps the mind-bulb glow brighter as do love, gratitude, and the attitude of sharing.  Beware of the mass media anxiety machine.

Lifestyle Activity

Exercise accelerates circulation, oxygenation, and the removal of wastes like maintaining the aquarium or the ebb and flow of the tides that prevent stagnation.  It keeps the heart in shape and the mind calm. Quality sleep releases melatonin, a powerful antioxidant, and relaxes all energy gobbling tension.  Sleep apnea deprives the body of oxygen when it needs it most for restorative processes. The symptoms are exaggerated examples of O2 deprivation with (often misdiagnosed and mistreated) circulatory distress and edema that magically disappear when normal breathing and deep sleep are restored.

Metals/Toxins

These are charge killers – avoid and detox. Hair analysis identifies metal loads such as mercury, cadmium, arsenic, and aluminum which source free radical oxidants, encourage infections, and result in chronic inflammation.  Many people are surprised by their accumulations and mineral deficiencies. I’ve used Eidon/Biotrend Labs with satisfaction and there are others.  It is only a matter of mailing a hair sample with a check and waiting for results so you really know where you stand. Then try to account for ingested metal sources and mineral levels.

AC/DC

There are a number of electronic, magnetic, laser and acoustic devices that have shown effectiveness in conditions across the board: electric brain stimulators and acupuncture techniques, various magnetic wraps, pulsed laser therapy for joints, frequency generators to raise vibrations, and sound machines that heal stubborn ulcerations. Each supplies or modulates different forms of energy.

So

Aging is not much fun if you suffer with chronic disease(s) and pain. It is sad to see so many spend their later years (along with their life’s savings) at the doctor’s office and the drug store. To avoid this fate, you must attend to the maintenance of your own body.  Give your cells the same conditions you would supply a goldfish: clean, well-oxygenated, pH balanced, properly-charged fluids so they will have plenty of energy to function at healthy levels.

Author’s Note:

What with man’s propensity to burn things and use our oceans as an open sewer, it always seemed implausible for geo-science to conclude that global oxygen levels are “remarkably stable.”

New analyses of atmospheric O2 disagree with this conventional view and point to industrial practices that deplete oxygen even faster than they raise CO2 concentrations.
Interestingly the study states; In humans, failure of oxygen energy metabolism is the single most important risk factor for chronic diseases including cancer and death.” O2 Diving Towards Danger Point – Institute of Science in Society
