All You Need To Know About Turmeric

Turmeric has in recent years become very popular among those who care about good health, with recent research showing that there are many benefits from its use in the treatment of different health conditions like cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.

Turmeric comes from the root of the Curcuma longa plant and has a tough brown skin and a deep orange flesh. It was often called Indian saffron because of that same deep yellow-orange color and, throughout its long history, has been used as a spice, healing remedy, and textile dye.

You can use turmeric in cooking on a regular basis for its health benefits or you can take it as a supplement.

Things to Remember When Using a Turmeric Supplement

  • It should be 95% pure curcumin extract at around 50mg a tablet.
  • It should also have a natural enteric coating, so the benefit is not lost by the time it reaches the upper intestine in your stomach.
  • Turmeric is not easily absorbed on its own but with the right combination, you really start to see the benefits. It can be mixed with piperine, green tea, or ginkgo biloba extract. A few grains of black pepper or one twentieth to one-quarter of a teaspoon can boost turmeric’s absorption by up to 2000%. One way to take the black pepper is with some good fat.
  • You need some healthy fat with your turmeric anyway. This is because turmeric is fat-soluble. Coconut oil, ghee, or extra virgin olive oil enable the curcumin to be directly absorbed into the bloodstream, through the lymphatic system while bypassing the liver. The less curcumin that is exposed to the enzymes and remains in a free form, the longer it stays in the body doing its good work.
  • Finally, heat is an important component for improving absorption by increasing turmeric’s bio-availability. It is harder to include heat if you take your dose as a supplement but easier to do so if you use turmeric in your cooking. Your health can benefit If you pop in a quarter to half a teaspoon of turmeric every time you cook something in your pan, added to a little warm healthy fat.

The Top Ten Tips to Treat Yourself Today and Every Day

There are many ways to improve your health naturally and safely at home – and elsewhere.  If you follow these ten tips every day, they will soon become a habit.

Oil Pulling

Oil pulling means that you rinse your mouth out – ideally with coconut oil. This can have a very powerful cleansing and healing effect, detoxifying or cleansing the body. The process can also help with dental problems in the mouth.

This is a simple and inexpensive way to whiten teeth and freshen breath.  It can also improve several health conditions (ranging from eczema to arthritis) through its effect on oral bacteria. Imagine the oil that lubricates and cleans vehicle engines for many miles before being changed and fresh oil put in. Oil pulling works the same way in our mouth, getting rid of dirt and grime.

First thing in the morning – on an empty stomach and before drinking any liquids – put 1 to 2 teaspoons of the oil in your mouth. Push, pull and swish the oil between your teeth and all around your mouth for 15 to 20 minutes, long enough to bind bacteria with the oil. Spit out the oil and rinse.  You can then brush your teeth with a natural toothpaste and even a natural sea salt and water mouthwash.  At the start, carry this out 3 times a day if possible for a full detox. Later, change to once a day for maintenance.

Vitamin D supplement and/or Sunlight Exposure

Unless you are a lifeguard on a California beach or you live on the equator, there is a strong possibility that you will be Vitamin D deficient.  Today, we spend much of our lives indoors, under artificial light and when we do get out in the sunlight, we are encouraged to slather on the sunblock.  Make the change to exposing as much skin as possible to the summer sunlight (without skin block) until the skin starts to turn a light pink (if you are light skinned).  Darker skin tones can tolerate more sun.  The darker your skin, the longer it takes to absorb vitamin D.  Aging can also prevent absorption.

During the winter months, most of us need to supplement with a high-quality vitamin D3 and the dosage can be up to 5000 IUs daily.  If you are unsure about how much you should take, get tested.

Coconut Oil

Often considered to be one of the healthiest oils in the world, the flesh of the coconut is very high in healthy fatty acids. While the composition of fat varies depending on the type and processing of the oil, medium-chain saturated fatty acids make up approximately 90% of coconut oil with a slight contribution of mono-unsaturated fatty acids and poly-unsaturated fatty acids.

Many natural health followers believe that adding coconut oil to your diet will help in preventing the onset of Alzheimer’s. Take two tablespoons daily with food. Start off with just a teaspoon of coconut oil and gradually build up, making sure you use organic virgin coconut oil.

Resistance Exercises

Resistance exercise is any form of exercise that forces your skeletal muscles to contract. For this form of strength training, you can use resistance bands or one of those chest expanders.  You can put your foot on one end and pull upwards with your arm for several times and then change to the other foot and arm.  A resistance band can be attached to a chair or a handy pillar.  Any external resistance will lead to increases in muscular mass, strength, endurance, and tone.  An invaluable way to improve your health.

Grounding – Going Barefoot Outdoors

There are numerous health benefits when you are grounded or connecting electrically with the Earth. But, unlike our ancient ancestors, we no longer have this grounding connection – unless we walk barefoot on grass, sand or even in a body of natural water. Grounding helps to combat inflammation by restoring circulation to fingers and toes, can be very beneficial for problem varicose veins, can thin the blood making it less viscous, and even helps to counteract jet lag.  An hour of grounding after a long flight or car journey can eliminate those unwanted effects of long-distance travel.

A Weekly Epsom Salt Bath

Two cups of Epsom salt in a warm bath can be very beneficial, relaxing and therapeutic.  The bath will help to detox; provide a further form of treatment for skin conditions such as eczema and acne; soothe inflammation, bruising, swelling and muscle strain; and top up magnesium levels where deficient.

Relax Your Back

Apart from an Epsom salt bath above, there is a very useful exercise for the relief of lower back pain.  Lie flat on the floor facing upwards before lifting your legs straight up into the air and, bending at the knees, place your feet on the seat of a dining room/kitchen chair.  Remain like this for at least twenty minutes.  Relax as much as you can and even practice deep breathing at the same time.

A Daily 30-minute Walk

And a brisk one at that!  We all need to get moving more and this is an ideal way to start and a very good habit to get into.  Of course, an hour is even better, but I am not pushing it!

Hydrating

Are you drinking enough liquids and especially water?  A jug or glass of water next to your bed at night helps to keep you hydrated and even aids sleep.  During the day, keep a glass or reusable bottle of water at your workplace to remind you to keep drinking. Carry that same bottle with you when traveling or out and about.  Water is not always as drinkable and as safe as you would hope or expect.  Investing in a high quality home water filter is probably the most practical and affordable solution.

Standing in the Workplace

We don’t have to tell you that most people don’t stand enough, preferring to take the comfortable easy way out.  And yet, spending too much time sitting is now considered to be as dangerous for your health as being a smoker, increasing the risk of diabetes, heart failure, invasive breast cancer, ovarian cancer, colon cancer, reducing blood flow, and even leading to deep vein thrombosis.

Think and plan on how you can become more of a stand-up person.

Taking that daily brisk walk above is one way while re-thinking your workplace set up is another.  Change your workstation to a standing one; take all phone calls on your feet; pace up and down while you talk; and urge your work colleagues to try standing or walking meetings.

These tips are all ones that I try to follow regularly.  Not always every day but I have the best intentions and I do benefit!

Why Does the Younger Generation Today Often Sport the Lopsided Grin?

Over the past couple of years, I have noticed at least three young TV presenters here on UK television who have crooked smiles – and I started to wonder why.

On doing some research, I found that I was not the only one questioning this trend.

I came across someone by the name of Forrest Maready who had also become curious.  He noticed that many babies, children, and young adults were sporting crooked smiles.  He started his search for answers by going back into archive photographs for the past one hundred years or even longer – and he could find absolutely no sign of any crooked mouths in these photographs until he reached a couple of decades ago.

Of course, one problem with much older photos is that often people’s portraits were serious-faced, making it less easy to see if a smile was crooked or not.  But then, with the more recent photos, crooked smiles started to appear in ever-increasing numbers and among many well-known faces too.   I have found such examples myself including Katie Holmes, Patrick Dempsey, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ryan Gosling, Dax Shepard, Natalie Dormer and many more.

It is certainly not about crooked teeth. It’s all about the smile where the mouth itself turns down on the one side and up on the opposite side (usually the left side for down and the right for up) when smiling.

Metal Toxicity

Forrest has been busy and says that some research has now pointed to it being a sign of metal toxicity – that is mercury, lead, or aluminum.  Our faces are controlled by the cranial nerves and it is possible for these to be damaged by metals, perhaps causing a crooked smile, a droopy frown, or even the appearance as of a mini-stroke.  Another symptom can be where the eyes fail to point in the same direction.  This has even been given a medical term – strabismus.

He tells us that high amounts of aluminum have already been blamed for Alzheimer’s while even higher traces of the metal have been found in autistic brain samples.

The problem is that aluminum is very neurotoxic and even just tiny amounts can destroy the cranial nerves.  The thinking behind the connection between aluminum and Alzheimer’s was that the former had built up over many years.  However, with these higher amounts now being found in children, researchers are looking for the source.

Forrest has his own theories on the source of such high amounts of aluminum appearing in children which he is happy to share with those who are interested.  He takes great pains to point out that at this stage, they are only theories.

In the meantime, he would like you to look carefully at your own face or those of your family members including your children.

What to do if You Notice a Crooked Smile on Yourself or a Family Member?

Get out the family photo album or those digital photographs stored online and take a good look at them.  Has there been any change in the appearance of the face over a short space of time particularly with the smile or the eyes?

There are 6 warning signs to look out for: a crooked smile, a droopy frown, outward eye, inward eye, partial eye blinks, and droopy face.

If you notice something, start an urgent course of aluminum detoxification.

Other Serious Damage Caused By Aluminum

  • Aluminum damages your central nervous system.
  • Aluminum can damage your brain.
  • Aluminum robs the body of magnesium, calcium, and iron.
  • Aluminum accumulates in bone tissue, which results in weakened bones.
  • Aluminum causes oxidative stress in cells throughout the body, causing aging and damage to DNA.

How to Have Less Aluminum in Your Daily Life

  1. Change to using aluminum free cookware.
  2. Check your water supply because it could be high in aluminum too.
  3. Avoid using any hygiene products (including antiperspirants) with aluminum hydroxide.
  4. Avoid vaccines and medications that contain aluminum.  If you are unsure, check out the full and official list of ingredients.
  5. Stop eating processed foods.

There are Foods that Help to Remove Heavy Metals Naturally

These include onions, blue-green algae, garlic, cilantro, burdock, bentonite (high grade), carrot juice and green tea.  Chlorella is also an excellent food that helps remove metals while assisting the body to rebuild nerve tissue.

Children and Eczema

Eczema is a chronic itchy skin condition that usually starts during the first five years of life, most often in the first six months, and typically lasts into childhood and even adolescence.  In infancy, eczema often appears as red, scaly, crusted and even weeping patches often on both cheeks and on the (lower) extremities.  During childhood, eczema usually moves to areas such as the knees, elbows, wrists, and ankles.

There are times when the skin appears only mildly affected while, during other periods, it is moderately–to very severely affected.

Eczema now occurs in almost 20% of all children in industrialized countries; its prevalence in the United States alone has nearly tripled in the past thirty years.

Why the Increase in Eczema?

One Suggestion

Could the increase be partly due to an imbalance in the gut bacteria?

There are four main ways in which the body eliminates unwanted matter:

  1. The bowels get rid of food waste – as well as waste from the lymphatic system and toxins from the blood that the liver has cleaned out.
  2. The kidneys and bladder handle cellular waste as they clean the blood.
  3. The lungs deal with any waste that can be converted to a gas, for example, carbon dioxide.
  4. And the skin eliminates waste as we perspire.

All four methods have to work properly for optimum efficiency, but even if just one does not, waste finds it way back into the body, which has to go back to square one to find another method for elimination.

A traditional naturopath doctor, Kathryn Doran-Fisher,  believes eczema is a result of waste material being passed out of the skin that was never meant for the skin to eliminate. These irritating substances cause inflammation, itching, and redness as the immune system works to get rid of it.

Another Possible Reason

Before the 1900s, vaccines were administered by a lancet, but by the turn of the century, nearly all countries in the western world changed to using the hypodermic needle instead. Coincidentally or not, a new disease called serum sickness began to afflict thousands of children. The connection was well recognized and documented in the medical literature of the day. In fact, Dr. Clemens Von Pirquet (who actually coined the word “allergy”) was a leading researcher in identifying the new disease. The doctor recognized that vaccines had two primary effects: immunity and hypersensitivity. He said they were inseparable; the one was the price of the other.

  • Could the growing number of cases of eczema in children be part of that second primary effect of hypersensitivity, especially in view of the increased vaccine schedule of recent decades?
  • Could the elimination of the toxins from vaccines (even through the skin as we describe above) be at fault?

Whatever the reason, eczema can be particularly harsh and painful for children to endure.

How Can We Help Our Children To Heal the Eczema?

Investigating your child’s gut health and ensuring the buildup of good bacteria in their digestive system has to be at the top of the list.  Parents can do this in a number of ways:

  • By making every effort to breastfeed your baby for as long as possible.
  • By cutting down or cutting out all refined sugars (including agave, fruit juices, coconut sugar, etc.).
  • By including probiotics in your diet (in the form of fermented foods or with probiotic supplements) during pregnancy.
  • By giving probiotics from a young age to beneficially alter the early colonization of bacteria in the gut and to help the child’s immune system develop and mature. However, probiotics do need to be integrated with a healthy diet.  It does not help to add probiotics if your child is consuming loads of sugar, grains, and fruit juices as these will rapidly break down in the intestine and feed the pathogenic bacteria, rendering those probiotics useless.

The presence of Candida or yeast is a sign of problems with gut health. It is those simple carbs – sugars, grains, and pastas – that feed the yeast.  Candida develops as a helper to create balance in the gut due to antibiotics, preservatives, heavy metal toxins, and processed foods. Once gut health is improved sufficiently, Candida becomes obsolete. Unfortunately, Candida overgrowth can be passed down from mother to child.

Consider changing to a raw food diet if your child is on solids. Such a diet would include a large proportion of living, nutritionally-dense organic uncooked and unprocessed food along with pure water. Such a diet will help eliminate those toxins that can be created during the cooking process and help the body to become more alkaline.

Make the connection between that nightly bath time and the appearance of eczema. Bathe your children when they’re dirty,  this usually means two to three baths a week. Use one bath each week to wash your child’s hair and body with natural soap/shampoo, while the other bath or baths are kept simple with oatmeal milk or herbal bath bombs,  not only to clean their skin but to nourish it as well. Dryness and eczema go hand in hand, and it is this dryness that makes it so important to keep on moisturizing when you have the recurring symptoms of eczema. When the body sweats, valuable water and moisture are lost from the skin. Caring for children with eczema means establishing a skin care routine that locks in moisture.

Dry skin brushing combined with the use of a natural scrub to exfoliate, followed by a natural moisturizer, can help to get rid of dry skin topically.

Using 100% natural H-Eczema Formula will work gently with your child’s body to heal those symptoms without the adverse effects that other harsh eczema remedies (containing chemicals and other harmful ingredients) can bring.

Conclusion

No parent wants their child to suffer from the pain and discomfort of eczema. We must remember that our skin is our largest organ and everything we apply to the outside of our skin gets absorbed into the skin and into our bloodstream.  We need to focus on what goes into our children’s bodies not only via the mouth and nose, but also via the skin – everything from the type of food they eat, the vaccines injected, the day-to-day exposure to chemicals, toxins and so much more.

Are Skin Tags Trying Your Patience?

Skin tags can develop anywhere on the body, though they are often the result of chafing and irritation where skin is constantly rubbing against other skin. Obesity is associated with the growth of skin tags due to extra skin folds and increased friction.

Who Is  More Likely To Develop Skin Tags?

Skin tags are very common; 50% of the adult population develops them by  middle age.

Apart from weight, other contributing factors include genetics, diabetes, insulin rejection, and pregnancy. Steroid use can interfere with the body and muscles, which in turn can affect the skin, causing collagen fibers to bond in such a way that skin tags are formed.

Where Do Skin Tags Appear?

Common sites for skin tags are the eyelids, under the breasts, the armpits and the upper chest, but there are other types of skin tags, too. Genital tags include anal skin tags, groin skin tags, and vaginal skin tags.

Although groin and vaginal skin tags are harmless and benign, many people become embarassed or they worry about the tags being something more sinister. As the genital area is moist and the skin is often sensitive and tender, these skin tags can be more easily irritated, chafed, infected, or injured by rubbing against underwear or from friction during sports, exercise, or sexual activities. And skin tags in the vaginal area are more vulnerable during menstruation because they swell during this time.

All Skin Tags Are Similar Except for Anal Skin Tags

Anal skin tags can differ from regular skin tags as they are often the result of another condition called an anal fissure, a small tear in the anus caused by a hard stool. During the healing process of this tear, the anal skin becomes uneven, resulting in an anal skin tag. These same anal skin tags can also develop following hemorrhoids as the tissue-swelling (associated with the hemorrhoids) may extend to the anal skin. One of the differences between anal and other skin tags is that they can be itchy or painful. All skin tags can bleed if torn because they have their own blood supply.

Conventional Methods for Skin Tag Removal

By far, the easiest time to remove skin tags is when they are small. Conventional methods may involve some pain and discomfort and any surgery in the anal area (however small) may cause some post-operative pain.

  • Cryotherapy – a doctor freezes off the skin tag using liquid nitrogen.
  • Surgical excision – a doctor cuts off the skin tag using a local anesthetic to dull the pain.
  • Electrocautery (which is a suitable treatment for large skin tags) – a doctor cuts off the tag and cauterizes the wound.
  • Laser treatment (which can be used on anal skin tags rather successfully) – a doctor removes the tag with a laser and the whole anal area is resurfaced at the same time, which is a bonus.

Natural Skin Tag Removal

Natural removal means not having to resort to painful methods that can end up with scarring. All types of skin tags can be treated naturally. And, of course, natural methods are far less expensive than conventional ones.

Here Are Five Suggestions for Natural Skin Tag Removal

  1. Apply cider vinegar to the skin tag with a cotton ball. The only discomfort could be a stinging sensation. After a couple of days, you may notice that the skin tag changes color (becoming darker), but carry on applying for up to 4 weeks until the tag disappears.
  2. Castor oil can be made into a natural skin tag removal ointment by mixing it with baking soda to create a paste. You might want to add a few drops of citrus oil to improve the aroma. Keep applying the paste to the skin tag until the tag is eliminated.
  3. You can apply garlic juice or a sliver of garlic to any skin tag at night and cover with a bandage. The next morning, remove the garlic and rinse the tag. Repeat the process for the next two nights and then stop. Repeat if necessary after a week or two.
  4. Pure natural pineapple juice can also be used. Apply twice a day for a week or longer, but do not wash off the juice until the skin tag is eliminated.
  5. H-Skin Tags Formula is an ideal natural removal product for all types of skin tags, however sensitive the area. It is safe and gentle without any pain or scarring.

A Word or Two of Warning

Do not use any over-the-counter products for the removal of anal or genital skin tags. These chemicals are too harsh.

If you are in any doubt about whether a growth is a skin tag, ask for a definite diagnosis from your medical practitioner.

Conclusion

It is worth repeating that the easiest time to remove a skin tag is when it is small and easy to twist. The important thing is to choose as safe and painless a method as possible – whatever size they are and wherever they occur.

Steps To Help Minimize Vaccine Side Effects

The vaccine debate is never without controversy but there are ways to minimize the side effects and possible damage from the ingredients in vaccines, ingredients that can include heavy metals and chemical adjuvants. It takes a bit of preparation and planning but is well worth the effort.

Related: How To Detoxify and Heal From Vaccinations – For Adults and Children

Step 1 – One hour before being vaccinated, take a dose of a fish oil supplement

This is because eicosapentaenoic acid or EPA (one of the omega 3 fatty acids found in fish oil supplements) is a potent immunosuppressant. While normally if you take a high dose of EPA you will be more susceptible to infections, in the case of an immune adjuvant reaction you want to reduce it. Taking the fish oil supplement one hour before a shot will block the ability of a very powerful adjuvant called lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to cause brain inflammation.

Ideally, the product to take would be an Omega 3 marine lipid – one that is cold-extracted and certified to be free of mercury and pollutants. Examples such as “quality greenlip mussel supplements” are available online. Even better, the product could and should contain antioxidants with a high ORAC value. ORAC stands for oxygen radical absorbance capacity and refers to a food’s antioxidant value. For example, high ORAC foods are therapeutic foods, as opposed to simply nutritionally fulfilling foods and include vibrantly colored fruits and vegetables – red, orange, yellow, and purple.

Continue with regular doses of this supplement or fish oil (even after the vaccination) to prevent inflammatory flare-ups. The recommendation is to carry on for at least a month.

Step 2 – Immediately before vaccination (or as soon as possible)

Take a calcium supplement. As this needs to be in contact with the mucous membranes of the mouth to do its work, hold it under the tongue until dissolved.

Step 3 – Immediately after a vaccine injection

Apply an ice pack to the injection site to inhibit blood flow to the area and prevent the vaccine ingredients from spreading into the blood and surrounding tissues. This is especially important for vaccines that contain adjuvants. Remember to take your own ice pack with you because of the necessity of applying it quickly.

Once you are home, keep applying that cold pack regularly throughout the day – and even the next day if needed.

Step 4 – Within two hours of vaccination

Take a dose of homeopathic Thuja Occidentalis 30C.

Repeat the dose every 12 hours to complete a total of 3 doses and no more. Thuja is available at health food stores that carry homeopathic remedies as well as compounding pharmacies. There are also excellent homeopathic sources online. Homeopathy will continue to counteract any side effects even months or years later.

Step 5 – Finally, and as part of the healing process, include these supplements

  • Vitamin E (in a natural form that is high in gamma-E) can help to reduce the immune reactions and may also limit several of the inflammatory cytokines. Avocado oil and kiwifruit seed oil are both excellent sources of all the natural forms of vitamin E.
  • Take vitamin C (at a dose of 1000 mg) 4 times a day between meals as a potent anti-inflammatory (use in a buffered form and not as ascorbic acid). Any sign of loose stools could mean you have reached bowel intolerance of the vitamin – so immediately cut back on the dose.
  • Two further supplements that can provide extra protection against the toxic effects of vaccines are astaxanthin and zinc.

These are 5 very worthwhile suggestions for you, or any member of your family, to help the body recover from undergoing a vaccine shot.
