Time reports California is once again proving to be a leader in energy conservation. By January 2013, new regulations will require televisions sold in the state to use 50% less energy.
Energy efficient cathode-ray-tube sets are being replaced by flat screen LCD or plasma models. Both are energy hogs, though plasma uses up to 35% more energy than LCD models.
Energy consumption in California has remained fixed for 30 years, despite population growth.
